Please keep it up with your son. A lost art. Try to get a license now is hard . More about not trapping the neighbors cat than it is looking over the area you are trapping and how can I harvest and still be able to return to the wild. respect nature and it will respect you. And by no means does that mean do not hunt, fish, or trap. It means nature will provide but we all have limits. You can't get 4 fish out of hole that only has 3. And you can't expect to expect any fish if you only leave one. (Birds and bees thing Lol) My good man. . Teach your son well. Thoughts and prayers with you

It's a time of year for gathering, preparing and enjoying. We canned more goods this year then ever before, as we are making the switch from freezing to canning. Just in the middle of making fresh apple cider from a wild orchard just over the hill. With no bugs and crisp colourful air, it's a season well cherished. I embrace the winter months to come as we have gathered, prepared and enjoyed the homestead and what it brings to our lives. Here's to good food, good times and good friends who have found the secret to a happy, healthy and homestead way. Cheers to that- Yessir!!!

JC, I really appreciate the work you put into your video's. The music, story lines and even the lighting all seem to hit a chord with me, along with the topic of course... I always fill my notebook with tips, small things like how to buck a large log the way you did by rolling it, or even processing a tree that looked semi-green to me all plant seeds& idea's that I will use at my own 'city boy' cabin. Thanks !

Glad you enjoy my videos Jerry cause I always enjoy your comments. I burn a good amount of green wood in my stoves that have metalbestos chimneys and never have any issues. One quick swipe of the brush now and then and they're clean and safe. The creosote is a different story with my masonry chimney so nothing but dry wood in that one.

One of my most favorite things about the fall and winter is catching a whiff of wood smoke from some one's wood stove. Man, I just love that. My family never had a wood stove or a fire place so I didn't grow up with one. But for some reason, when I smell that scent it always gives me a feeling of "home" comfort and safety. (The warm fuzzy feeling) I can't really explain why, except that maybe it's a deeply rooted primal thing as we as human beings all used to use wood for heat and would huddle close to the fire long ago before our modern heating systems were invented. My best friend's family has wood stoves at their house. Her parents for trusted me to load them when they got low. I am very often up late at night. I would go into their living room and check the big stove as it heated most of the house. I would open the flue and check inside and the logs would be mostly burned away, so I would quietly add a few more being careful not yo wake any one up, then close the door and the flue. Her mother would be glad that the fire wasn't completely out by the time she woke up. She was always the first one up in the house and she would load the stove in the morning.
@thebossoftheswamp8 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about the smell of smoke in the air. I love to have a coffee out in the cold winter air with the sun on my face and smoke puffing from the chimney. Getting warm fuzzy feelings just thinking about it ;-))

This is the time of the year that I get homesick. You can take the boy out of the country. But you can't take the country out of the boy. Even though I've been in the south for many decades, my heart & mind turns to the trees & woods of my youth. As well as the time spent communing with nature. So many say they can't see the creator's had in our world. But I can't help but notice it anytime I see the beauty that He created. So hope you don't mind if I say that I'm a bit envious of your cabin & the scenery. It's the only time I get that twinge of homesickness. When the leaves are changing & a white Christmas. Thanks for bringing us along.

Thank you for that reminding look at reality, I am stuck here in Southern California where it's all about a push of a button or the flip of a switch even a flush of a toilet a no one even care where it's coming from or where it's going. I'm a Army Veteran that learned man and nature have a special relationship, the only thing the city is good for is corruption. Once again thanks for the video.

i can't wait for the crisp fall weather in Georgia. It is 76 today and 81 tomorrow. Have not had rain for several weeks. I have to get started getting chain saw ready and sharpen up chains and axes. Glad you have Frankie to help. My dogs just watch.

Yes indeed. He who gathers his own wood gets warm twice! And it's so hard to find good help these days. But Frankie fills the bill rather nicely! The color in the trees up there is just terrific. Just starting to turn good down here in Franklin NC. It will probably peak this coming week or so. What a beautiful time of the year. Always enjoy your vids!

The leaves are falling fast now and taking the color with them. Hate to see them go. Enjoy your color while you can. Cheers :-)

JC, Things have been so busy here that I just saw this clip. Beautiful foliage at your homestead. Central NH is at peak. We have our wood ready. Still working on kindling.To move with the New England seasons does the soul good. And it shows on you my friend. Hopefully Wednesday will be the day our house is set on the foundation.Going to be close ... moving in before the first snowflake hits the roof!Enjoy the fall... knowing you've done it right. I always felt that I spent most of my NH year getting ready for winter '-)
