Meat birds. Broilers. Meant to eat, not for eggs. The others are egg layers.

I raise my chickens off Grid too. For the first couple weeks I fill milk jugs with warm water and set them in the cage with them. The chicks will cuddle up to it like the jug is it's mother. I have to replace the water often the first week. The second week I reduce the amount of jugs and by the third week I take them away. Works great.

I get that this is an older vid, but, wanted to say thanks for helping me feel better about my setup. I'm offgrid too, and using the old woodstove as a brooder. Will include the warm water jugs idea from the comments 👍

Been doing this for years now and never lost a bird to the cold. Have chicks next to the wood stove right now.

Raise the box up towards the ceiling, within 1 foot of the ceiling should be enough heat up there.
