Tessie I lived in a 1958 Norris Mobile home for 20 years!! Left it 12 years ago. We wanted to move it, but I was afraid it was so old it wouldn't make the trip, it had the rounded corners. One end was all windows. I loved it. Had it fixed up like a Classic Car. Had a nice front porch. I love my little 850sq ft 100 yr old farm house but I loved that little tiny trailer... it was easy to heat and cool. I was single and it was perfect for me :)

I live in a 1967 Parkway 14 by 46 ft mobile home. I have 2 beds, 1 bath, kitchen and living room. I've been here in a trailer park for over 20 yrs. Its held up real well. Real well! My property taxes were $132.00 last yr. All I have to do is list it with the form they send me every Jan. Lot rent is $160.00/month. It's just me and the dog and 2 cats. I'm fine. Never been happier. This place has been paid for for over 20yrs. My friend who works ft jobs cuts my grass and weed eats for 25.00 ever 2 weeks during summer. You cant beat that. God is very good.

We live in Phoenix, Arizona. Our single-wide mobile home (built in 1981) is 728 sq ft (14 ft x 52 ft), is appraised at $7,100 (we bought it 6 years ago for $1,036, including sales tax), it's on a very small lot in a mobile home park, current lot rent is $575/month (till the next lot rent increase). My utility bills are very cheap because I work hard to keep them low. My property tax was $93 last year. I don't have as many windows as you do (wish I did), only 6 single-pane windows that are drafty in the winter. We still have the wood-look paneling throughout (I call them cardboard walls), original linoleum floors. It's an over 55 park, but very noisy because it's in the city. I would love to live in a mobile home like yours on a plot of land like yours, but living on Social Security checks only, we can't afford to move. I don't like living with an HOA, too many rules. God bless you, Tessie.

Affordable housing is hard to find for most people. In my area. the average working person can't afford to rent anything, and especially can't afford to buy. Even mobile home living is out of the reach of most. They have to take in several roommates just to pay rent and utilities. I am blessed to have a farm house on a few acres with no payments. It took years of work to get to this point.

We bought a used single wide mobile home when we got married. It was in a park. We saved money and bought cut over scrub timber land. We moved the trailer to the land. Able to live cheap and pay off the land quick because of frugality. Concentrated on improving land, gardens, orchards, barn, etc. Decided to build a house ourselves. Took us years. Small mortgage though. Then moved in house and pulled out the trailer and sold it for $100 more than we paid for it! We live up a holler here in NC.

I lived in a mobile homes when I was in my early 20's. I didn't mind it at all. It was nice. Here it costs $500-750 to put your home in a mobile home community. Much better to buy your own land, but then you have to pay to run water, electricity, etc. to your land. Expensive! Once paid for though, your expenses are small. Hugs & blessings, Tessie, and family. 💙💚🧡💛💗

Your home is lovely! I started out in a mobile home on land my in-laws owned. It was their garden and the land had been in my father in-laws family for generations. Loved it there and learning how to garden and 'put by', My aunts were great gardeners as well and l loved learning to can and dry fruits etc. And now to my words of caution.... mobile home living can be dangerous here in the South where we get Tornadoes every year. I have known several people who lost everything because they were in the path of the tornado. My husband's uncle died as a result of being in the path of a particularly bad tornado. His home was strapped down to withstand the tornado. It lifted his entire home off its foundation and carried it over three quarters of a mile, and ironically the base of the mobile home stayed put because it was tied down, but that was all that was left. So l caution anyone ho lives in a part of the country that gets tornadoes to do due diligence and be extra careful. Thank you for sharing your life with us, l am learning so much! And as always God Bless! ❤

Our park model is a small mobile home, just under 600 sq feet with the side room. I wish we could have put it on a piece of land, but we are in our 70's. We need to be in town, near shopping and doctors, with bus service handy. We don't have the health or stamina to build up a homestead, anymore. That's OK. I like our RV resort. We have good neighbors. I can can always live vicariously thru you and Jerry Hansen. Housework is 20 to 30 minutes every morning. I have my own washer. The dryers in the laundry building are about 100 yards away for things I don't want to hang. Rent is reasonable. Trash, water and sewer and lawn care are included. Electric runs under $100 a month. Life is pretty good.

I raised my kids in a mobile home, but it was in a trailer park surrounded by a bunch of neighbors. How lovely it would have been to live on a piece of land for both peace of mind and some privacy. But all in all, our home kept us warm and comfortable and it was something I could afford as a single parent.

I totally agree with you! I cashed in my retirement, and bought 30 acres. I have owned this for almost 4 years now. In the past 6 months, I was able to find a repo mobile home and had it moved to the land. Within a month I will go up and start remodeling. So, if anyone out there is considering doing the same, don't buy a new mobile home. Buy used or repo and make it you!

Your mobile home is lovely. I like the layout and open kitchen, with just enough privacy from the dining and living room. My house was built in the 1930’s. Small separated rooms. I do love my fireplace, and porch though. Keeping it up is very expensive, and you’re right my taxes here in Los Angeles just keep going up.:( Wish I lived in an early 60s mobile home on a nice piece of land like you. I can dream ❤️ someday. My husband and I are full-time RV ers, 31 foot 5th wheel with 250 feet of living space. It's perfect for us, and we love the nomadic lifestyle. We live very frugally and very minimally. It is so liberating! We do talk about finding a bit of land so we can homestead eventually, but the area would have to have fairly mild winters for us to stay in the RV. We'll see what the Lord has in store for us!

I have owned four mobile homes in my life. Yes, you need to be highly selective about living in a park. I learned to make sure the park was managed well and that the park managers also lived there. It is nicer to own your own land if possible. They can burn quickly. Have two clear exit doors and some fire exit windows.

Patricia Ribaric, we have three houses. The taxes on one of them went over 7 hundred dollars, and the other two are well over 6 hundred. When we lived in our mobile home our taxes were only fifty something dollars. We had a 1952 single wide, that had two rooms built onto it, sitting on my mother-in-law's land. That was the very best time of my life. We lived there for 12 years. That was the home our children spent their early years. We now live in a brick home in town and I'm always reminiscing about how life was back then. You can live in a palace and not be as happy as someone living in a tiny little mobile home.

@@josephhoag2366 (Carla) yes! when we first moved here we had trapped a possum (and set it free) so I know they are right out back. I even have coyotes and live next to a 6 lane freeway. my cat is indoors, but the two mice that got in thru the kitchen he promptly got one we turned the lights off to go to bed. He know they were there. I am going to think this is a possum then that has been scratching like crazy. it seems to do it near heat ducts, so I think it can see a little light shining thru the vents and that is why he picks the location? but last week the scratching was near the master closet wall and more mouse sounding if that makes sense. I love your decor it’s true farmhouse feel. I agree very welcoming. I hate that it gets a bad wrap sometimes. Definitely less these days though. It’s more about the people inside who make a home. ♥️

People are getting unsubscribed because of the KZbin algorithm anything about HOMESTEADING or prepping or living off grid or with conservative values ect and yes i know. I probably sound crazy but most the government doesnt want people being self sufficient or living off grid because when you are reliant on the government you are easier to control

I love your mobile home. It's got a great floorplan, big windows, the natural wood paneling and original cabinets. You have to hand it to Ridgeway for building such a sturdy home. Sure, there are challenges. Any 57-year-old home will have challenges, but you and Chevy Man have made yours into a warm, loving experience. What a blessing it is! I thought I was very much alone in being attracted to vintage mobile home living. That is, until I came across your Christmas Mobile Home Tour. Thankfully, not only did I discover I am not alone, I discovered your channel. Thank you for sharing your blessed home and lifestyle.

Great video as always. I live in a cottage similar on the outside to yours. It is half as big again as yours mainly because the attached garage and glassed in porch have been taken into the measurements. My rooms are spacious for a small house but the kitchen is a bit teeny which is fine as there is only me living here. My darling man passed away nine and a half years ago! He absolutely loved living here. In a way I regret the minute garden i have and rhe community rule of not growing food plants. Maybe I should get a big planter and try to grow some herbs.

We looked at mobile homes in Southern California. The home itself was affordable, but land and/or space rent was nuts. So we left and moved to Iowa, just a few months ago. No acreage, but a big yard. Looking forward to a garden in the spring. We always bought homes under 1000 square feet and raised four daughters with one bathroom. It can be done!

Nothing wrong with living in a mobile home, I could live that way, my bricks and stones house isn't large anyway :) Between 2 villages in my neighbourhood there is a lange still called 'kluislaantje' (lockerlane) because there was building were people could stores their good in the freezer. The building is long gone, and although it isn't the official name of that lane, every local person is still using that name (even the youngsters).

Can you tell my husband this! He always wants more. I have always been good with a smaller house. He thinks I’m the one who wants big living between the two of use we make enough money to live. But we don’t because I run ragged working so much taking care of other people. I lived in a mobile home in college. It wasn’t mine so it was different. I rented. You are right about the stigma. I used to take history on a patient. Living in a mobile home was in a different category from a regular standard home. So crazy!! I always wanted to change that. It made me angry. Thanks again Tessie!!

My husband and I purchased used mobile homes over the years, put them on land and fixed them up. We were able to buy the homes at a low cost move them to the land and improve them with new window, doors, fixtures, etc. bought at builder over stock auctions. We would put new roofs on them and I would build new cabinetry with real wood and new hardware and install new flooring and tile. It was a lot of hard work. But we were able to sell them on the land at a profit and do another until we were able to buy our current mid century brick home for cash. It changed our lives. But took many years , hard work and patience. There is nothing wrong with mobile home living. Hugs from MI-Sue

You make so many great points. My husband and I just moved into my elderly mom's mobile home with her. She learned the hard way to own the land, as initially she was in a mobile home park where she had to rent the land. They raised the rent 8% every year. Terrible! Now she is still in a mobile home park, but owns her little lot, and you are right that it appreciates. Also, the taxes are great. That is part of what makes it so affordable, even though we are in Southern California. I'm quite happy here. Side note: her mobile is a 1976, so older as well.
