I absolutely love your home, thank you for sharing a very personal space. Just lately with all of what is happening in this country I am withdrawing into my home and decorating it in a much more vintage fashion, I think it’s a reaction to the outside world to try and recapture a feeling of safety and peace, I love the 1940s era so your content is very comforting.

Me too. Bizarre concept, the World has gone mad enough that living in a literal warzone is calming. Periodically I'll be home alone and put the Air Raid siren KZbin video on. Just to add in some realism. I generally last about 10 minutes. I think I'm giving myself PTSD 😮.

My mother was a young housewife in the early 1940’s. She had an odd comment that wallpaper was SO cheap that she would wallpaper rooms every two years or so.. I just love the COZY you’ve created. Mint green kitchen. Of course! That cooker will never ever die….best 16 pounds you could ever spend! I treasure my few antiques from 1750-1810 and my parents mahagony bedroom set from 1938. Gosh, I see KZbin videos of people in huge houses with white sterile design and NO personality. Brava to you for being nostalgic. I enjoyed the tour, thank you!

Your home must be a dream ma'am, I agree with your opinion on lifeless homes. I'm a young housewife, 18, and we have our 1936 home with a wood fireplace, breadpan ceilings, and crystal doorknobs- I love it so much. Everything here was so easy for us to afford because we love the theifted and old things. My kitchenware is even old. I love nostalgic homes. My dad was so happy to see it, he said it reminded him of his childhood home. My grandpa in law was in love as well, it reminded him of his grandma's house. Thanks for sharing ma'am

My mum had a huge pantry in her house. I'd love to have a house with one, too. Everyone thinks it's innovative to have open plan kitchen, lounge, dining rooms. I've got a separate kitchen and much prefer it. I'd hate guests to see us cooking, with pans and dishes everywhere. Plus, I have a sofa in there and like to be left in peace! ALL these open plan homes are just boring, to me ,now. They're all the same!! I have my kitchen, dining room, then 2 separate lounges. It means our sons can have friends around, and we can all be 'doing our own thing' in peace. This house is interesting, but I'm much more minimalist in my personal style. Enjoyed watching this though

The lights weren't centered on ceilings because they often placed them closer to windows to help give privacy instead of shadows. It also offered various light levels throughout the room so people could use it as needed instead of everything being underneath a bright light. I've heard it can help with changing the appearance of room size too. The floor stencils were noted around early 1800s, I believe.
@julieannecarlson6507Ай бұрын
I stenciled my bedroom in the 1990s. A book I had did mention it was a cheap way to decorate in the 1930s. 😊
@bjrnh.107427 күн бұрын
The ceiling-decoration is not centered in smaller flats/houses, because they were meant to hold the lightning of the room - typically over a table, or they were off-cantered to avoid people from hurting their heads entering the room, as they usually are the place were the main lamp is fastened to the ceiling.
@justpde20 күн бұрын
Thank you for this info. I wondered why the 1930's house I bought in 2003 has a room in which the ceiling light was in a corner near the windows. Thought it was stupid....LOL. However, previous owners covered up the wall switch under wallpaper. I removed that, and had the light centered on the ceiling. Interesting discovery!!

This is so inspirational! I am in the US but have a similar dream for my home. I love how your garden (we call it a yard in the states) is so private and cozy. Even if the yard is fenced in, it never feels this way in the US, probably partly to do with the fact that a lot of yards where I live are quite large and feel overly open/exposed. Thanks for sharing your lovely house! ❤

@heathervaАй бұрын
How else do people store them?
@princessdumbarton9877Ай бұрын
@@heatherva In a lot of these videos people just use books as decorations. They will put them in bookshelves with the bound end facing the inside and the loose pages facing outward which seems absurd because then how would they know what book it was. But I suppose it doesn't matter because they are just using books as decorations. Or they will stack them up and put vases of flowers or plants on top of them where they can be damaged by water and dirt. Or worst of all, they will cut pictures out of books to frame or use in projects. It just shows that they don't value the books as things to read but only as decor. Books are to read in my opinion.
