I’m from homestead and I thought it was over when they called Jenison won the general effect caption, but I was pleasantly surprised

I was at that Toledo competition and saw your show. I knew once y'all stepped out onto the field that it would be good. I knew our band probably wouldn't make finals when I looked at the list of attending bands but seeing that show did make my day a little better.

Me too! It’s funny how every single bass five from the other bands came up to talk to me… except Jenison. (I’m bass 5)

I hope you continue to review BOA events. As a parent of marching band kids, I love hearing more about marching band from someone who has the knowledge and experience to explain what’s going on.

FYI, Vandy is in Leander ISD...but it is the LISD high school with closest proximity to Austin proper. As a drummer, who flips between using traditional and matched grips, I personally don't think any shade should be thrown on matched. Given the broader range of percussion instruments require more of a matched grip, I understand the benefits of having these young percussionists focus on matched, even while playing snare drum. And, wrt Vandy, you can't argue with the results. Those snares play difficult licks and they play them well...certainly well enough to win Thunder In the Hills. Certainly Joe Hobbs, Vandy percussion director and battery instructor for Canton Bluecoats, knows when to use and how to teach traditional grip. (BTW, Longhorns have yet to play an SEC teams this year.)

Oh yes, I am aware of where Vandy is at. Aside from writing music for them a while back, my hill to die on is Austin vs Austin-area. AND… Joe Hobbs, KVD, Mike Howard, and Paul Pape are in my fantasy league! As was Jeremy Spicer in the early stages. I’ll be sure to check back with you in a few weeks…

Could you possibly recap the BOA north Houston show when it happens?

I would question that 0.9 tenth discrepancy at Toledo…that seems like a big anomaly that doesn’t seem to represent the significance of the two shows, no matter the age group or level of activity. Sounds like penalized point to me. 😮
