My Appaloosa used to dive underwater on purpose. He'd fold his ears back and squinch up his nose and sink to the bottom. He'd hit the bottom and shoot up out of the water like a dolphin. He LOVED it. People sometimes stopped thinking he was drowning. When he'd see the water he'd just run into it. He'd grunt and leave horse apples trailing behind. We had a great sand beach and sand bottomed lake with a drop off. He'd swim, roll in the sand and swim some more. If I was sitting on shore he'd swim by himself. Rainy was such a good horse ♥

Here in the UK, my mare Clenys, a Belgian cross Thoroughbred, was river-broke. She has endured significant trauma in her life. While nursing her foal, they were involved in a trailer accident. Unfortunately, the foal didn't survive, and Clenys was left with traumatic injuries but she survived. This all happened before I got her. When Clenys arrived here at the age of seven, we consulted experts and decided that she needed to be broken as gently as possible. It took us one week, using river therapy-swimming with her and riding her through the water. I thank the Lord for giving her another chance at life. Thank you for uploading such a beautiful video. I don't think it's a matter of her not being able to swim - she thought she was drowning! Once (if?) she learns how to keep her head above water she might be fine. Poor Classy - I wouldn't want to be in the water either if I felt I was drowning! ❤

I don’t think she thought she was drowning! Cause she wasn’t panicking! If she had panicked, she would have drug him out of the water! To me, the thing is this: growing up, my Papaw always said, “There’s a quick way to judge a horse, by watching them drink. The smart ones, touch their lips to the water and don’t bury their nostrils. The dumb ones put their whole nose n the water to drink! And u don’t wanna buy that horse.” She might be one of those horses that puts her whole nose n to drink… lol idk know. Horses r like people n the fact that some take to things naturally and others have to b taught. I bet she will get there. I’m just thankful that they know what they r doing and he was real smart by teaching her to keep her head up so she Didn’t drown! They will get it figured out, wait and c 😁

Ya know how horses can have beautiful color AND have beautiful confirmation? I think Classy has those with something extra- I think her color compliments her confirmation and vice versa as well! This makes her just stunningly beautiful!!

@jaykay46 In addition, may I suggest 2 ideas to keep her nose above water? See if she likes the hard version of Cheetoes (they float), if not, try Fritoes. (Not sure if they float). You can put Cheetoes on top of the water & if she likes them, she will stay ( nose on top) eating.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Classy figure out the river isn't so bad. My Shepherd was just like her, willingly go in up to her hocks to get a drink, no further. Long story short, I tied her to the dock just deep enough she __had_ to swim. She got to cool off in the heat, I got a very fit and tired GSD.😉👍

it's interesting to see how the mares and the stallions differ in their swimming preferences. Please show ALL the swimming videos. It is a unique form of horse training and I love how the stallions LOVE it by groaning in pleasure at their weightlessness

YES they can swim! for anyone wondering...top performance horses like jumpers n event horses are put thru a rectangular deepening pool with ramps at both ends, and trainers with lines on both sides of the halter and the horse walks in, the trainers walk on the cement walks on both top sides, leading the horse and it swims to the other end.

I live in Springfield, Mo. anyway followed Oliver since day you rescued him and he was so beautiful under all neglect he had suffered. Now he is gorgeous and I remember when you two were crossing that stream in shallow area and he had stopped again to drink more water from running brook Area. You both have a gift and live for horses and seem to be fullfilling life as it is meant for you . This female ( mare) is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t remember you purchasing her for sure but soon afterwards. I wish you could help me purchase a Gypsie Vanner and rent a stall at your bard and train and come see my horse and ride it weekly and have it surrounded with your live. Mimi ❤️🏇🏾

PS I use water therapy in the winter & my pool in the summer. It helps immensely with so much. I have fusions in my back & neck along with a cage in my neck & a cage in my back. Nothing like the water to help with stretching muscles, breaking up scar tissue etc.

First time I ever took my draft cross gelding to the lake, he thought he was a submarine. He loved it! He loved it! He was at least 10 yrs. Old and had never been in water before. He would be totally submerged and eventually would come up! Hahaha or would be walking out and then he'd put his head down. His face was clean by the time he was done. Horses are great in the water. ❤

Yes, to seeing the horses being taken to the river for a swim. Classy may with time and exposure get the hang of lifting her head above the water line. She may need more coaxing to feel more comfortable. Getting the horses rinsed off down at the river is natures car wash.

Would it help if maybe you took Classy to the river with a herd buddy who knows how to swim and can show her what she needs to do with keeping her head up? Seems like she was thinking she needed to check out the water with her nose to see if it was okay. Also would love to see Bryce's Fraulein and later Bekah's Poncho go for swims. Also would love some buddy videos of Nattie with Fraulein. Thanks for sharing and even though Classy didn't swim like some of the others, she seemed to enjoy the water in her own way.
