In this #episode we bring you into our 10 acre #homestead. You get the full #tour of the #gardens, #orchards, #water #conservation #system and my moms #corky hand built #house. #food #preservation is at the top of my moms #list. and of course that #starts with #growing lots of #fruits and #vegitables. My mom has been a #vegan for over 30 #years and currently has two published #cookbooks. #healthy #living and #eating are very important. #canning, #fermenting and #dehydrating are the #methods of #preservation mostly used on the property. My moms goal is to set us all up for the #future. #offgrid is an option with the #solar #systems she has in place. We used to raise various #animals such as #goats, #chickens and #ducks, but it wasn't worth the #efforts so we #focus on #food from the #gardens. #green is the eay to go for #polution. Now instead of #chipping the #garden #waste she is stacking it up and letting it turn to #soil. No more #burning either. #life is good on the #homestead. Hope you enjoy the #video. #footage #howto #develope #raw #land #from #scratch

Your Mom ROCKS!!! Wow! What a video! No wonder Jeremy Does Things, lol! What an incredible woman. When I 'meet' folks like all of you through YT, it truly helps to understand the life of the original homesteaders. Kind of a How the West was Won thing! I'd love a video of your Mom as she makes the cheeses, and the krout and her travels on a van life scale! You blew my mind with this one, and yet it explains so much! Hey Vaughn...that rock is beautiful, show us the polished version please? Kudos Jeremy, you always make a great video, but ya hit this one outta the park!!! Wishing your family a wonderful week...oh, and Annetta...can't wait to see the ship!

You’re way too kind!!! First of all I’m so happy to hear this. I knew if I put our every day life adventures on YT there would be people who could live vicariously and learn as well. My brother and i’s adventures are one thing but my mom has a lot of knowledge to give. I wasn’t sure how this video would be received. I didn’t put any music in the background. I thought this one deserved to just be raw footage more like an educational video. Lots of titbits of information. And I definitely will keep my followers updated on the garden this year and the preservation processes. My mom is living in the future the old-fashioned way. That’s how I sum it all up and I think the world needs more of it. Your comments fuel need to keep on spending my time documenting our lives. Yesterday was an adventure with my brother. That will definitely be a fun watch. Coming soon :) cheers friend

Excellent video photography with clear commentary. I think that to see the progression of the garden and area once a month or so would be perfect for following to totally understand and see the success. A wonderful area for gardening with the sloping land with the huge rock markers that absorb heat. Beautifully landscaped for optimum food growing. You are an amazing homesteader Barbara and certainly not afraid of work!! Thank you for the opportunity to see what you do in your home and homesteading.

Yea we recently had someone come and look at the tree to see if it was worth milling because it’s dieing but it’s no good in the middle. It’s going to just stay there for the birds. Probably last another 15 years I’d say. Maybe more. Your right about that. My mom retired to slow down but ended up busy as ever. It’s good tho. She’s a teacher to us all. A woman of many lives and many talents. I agree, keep it up mom!

Hi there. Your family are an inspiration to us all. A better way to live in a world filled with chemicals and GMO's. The hard work and dedication it has taken does not go unnoticed by me. I too grow my own vegetables, berries, herbs, an apple tree and more. I had two Russian Olives for many years, I'm in Fort McMurray, and they produced an abundance of olives. But I lost them both a few years ago in a high wind thunder storm. I can grow so much here, it still amazes me after all these years of growing! One day I hope to live somewhere warmer, with more land so I can do more. I look forward to your monthly updates and really enjoy watching you, Barbara and your brother. Wow what a beautiful rock, Rocks are my other passion. Your channel ticks all the boxes Jeremy. You and the family have a great afternoon

What are my thoughts............ I hardly know where to begin. Off. The. Hook. Homestead. Full Stop. I could say that what your mom et al have accomplished and continue to grow and maintain is a magical thing to behold. And that would be true. I can certainly admit that if I could spin around quickly and presto! live in a similar situation over here. Oh heck ya. The truth of the matter is that I'm the very least prepared to persevere and accomplish anything even close to that. I'm missing the 'tribe'- and that's crucial. I'm also missing the roots. I'm just this much younger that when the option arose to skew in a different direction, my compass pointed me towards less hippy, more punk. Punk raised in the pretty Connecticut woods who has no trouble vacationing on a tiny island with no running water or electricity. A weird punk. Now an old punk who went to culinary and has a precious English degree (hahahahahaha), and so... yeah no. That said, I'm pleased with what I do, how I occupy my time, and my general state. I could dream up (and do-- all the time) all kinds of great stuff here on High Clearing. But growing a tribe late in the game is not an easy feat- especially when I'm only 5 years here. I won't say it'll never happen, but I've come to understand limits and what I can and cannot accomplish on this odd island 15. Thank you. I'll likely watch again and take notes. I'm envious of your weather right now as we're getting an interesting nor'easter rolling in tonight with high +/- 60 mph winds. You'd fall over if you saw all the timber I climbed over today- from the last storm a week ago(ish). Resource rich. Labor poor. Oh well. Gotta be a cousin of Murphy ('s law). Cheers from windywindy Maine! p.s. is that whole property fenced or just the 2 (or 3) lower gardens? Nothing is safe from the Deer (lol maybe) 😶
@JeremyDoesThings
@JeremyDoesThings 10 ай бұрын
Wellllll welll welll miss “queen of windy island”. Yes the whole garden and two orchards are fenced in completely from the deer. The deer are more like our pets here so it’s crucial to keep them where you want them. Yeah you’re right having the tribe is pretty key. We’re pretty lucky to all be together. It all came from the purchase of the property. It allowed us all to have our own space. We’re so lucky. I think outdoor punk is great! With a classy degree. You can dress her up and you can take her out, but you can’t take the little punk away from the wise woman. Hey, that’s cool that you made it out and that there’s so much resources there. We often find stuff too far to bring to the truck. Yes the weather is great. The sun is shining today with very little wind about to head out and cut the lawn. thanks for watching and thanks for your thoughts and story like comments. Always good for a smile :)
