I am in the process of getting chickens (still doing my research) and was excited to see that you use the First Saturday Lime in your Deep litter method. There have been so many conflicting opinions on that but I really wanted to try it. The reason people don't recommend it is because FSL will neutralize odor-causing bacteria deemed beneficial for composting. It doesn't sound like you've found that to be the case and I would love to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks so much.

Thanks for watching and your question is awesome! I wish when we got started I had started doing that level of research and skipped all the "figuring it out" on our own. As far as the FSL neutralizing the beneficial bacteria we haven't seen that be the case, but our compost all fits into a "system." While it might neutralize that bacteria in the coop once the deep liter is collected and added to the larger compost there is so much microbial power in there that when all that hot nitrogen from their droppings hits the pile goes into overdrive and breaks down extremely fast. I hope this answer was helpful and if you have any follow-up questions we love to help. Thanks

You talk too much about things unrelated to the subject on the headliner. USELESS info.
