Hi Dave - it’s Julie how are your ‘new knees’ keep walking lots xxx J
@TreeChangeFarmer7 ай бұрын
Hello Julie @@HomesteadingUncontained I am now in week 5 after the titanium knee replacement. Was using crutches for about 10 days but since then OK to walk around unaided. Have been doing physio for 4 weeks and this includes gym work and hydrotherapy sessions in the pool. The knee now is better than my old knee that was bone on bone and had got so bad my leg was bowed 10 degrees. A major fix, but now I can walk upright without a limp! On the negative side it does feel somewhat "artificial" to touch and there is a lack of sensitivity on the outer side of the knee but I have been told you get used to it over time. I need also to do the other one but may wait til we get back from our European trip in September. Jerry from @BigelowWoodcraft has had his knee just done and is documenting the experience each week on his Channel. With the new materials and technology available I was told my knee will last for 30 years! Ian mentioned his knee (knees?) are bad and would encourage him to look at the procedure for a pain free future. Everyone I talk to that have had the procedure say it really is a life changing experience. Cheers Dave.

@@TreeChangeFarmer Dave this is great news you are walking around. My friend walked and walked every day and has just had her second knee done & this one is even faster recovery. To be pain free is priceless …. Now no marathons young man for at least a year 🤣🤣🤣 x J

Hope this isn't takin as on dissing you, and not that it helps now, but you should have taken the mixer down to the pour and moved it as needed .when you've got a truck on the street what you're doing is great, but that's the point of a portable mixer save time on travel back and forth, dump right in the hole. Amazing cooperation and accomplishment with you two, love the channel.
@HomesteadingUncontained7 ай бұрын
The main reason is that all the sand and gravel is in the trailer a we can't get that down the slope - so it is either move the concrete after the mix or Julie carrying 6 buckets of aggregate down to the mixer each time. The mixer is not really that portable really, ok to move into place the once but then we keep it filled and spinning throughout to keep the boxes going (while we head down with the concrete to pour) 😀
@brianwilliams43267 ай бұрын
@@HomesteadingUncontained totally understand just thought bringing the sand and gravel stockpile down to the mixer with the skid would save time and spillage down the slope .no offense intended, just friendly advise and you know advise 🥴Concrete Drainage Forman 32 yrs. Instead of the flimsy concrete mixers that you get at Hornbach, OBI and so, I bought a concrete mixer from the seventies for 50€ , it's build like a tank, only needed a new V belt and some lubrication of the bearrings. It weights 200kg, so a little hard to move around. So far did 7 m^3 of concrete with it, running for days without problems.

Tell me about it - this new one is awful. I have my old faithful which has lasted me 25 years - I think I will repair the electric on it and go back to that one. I was hoping this one was bigger but it isn't. The older ones are the best.

Guys, if you haven't poured the concrete: connect the rebar cages at the step, it will crack if not. L.E. you've poured the half the conctere, to the step, you can still add some rebar there
@HomesteadingUncontained7 ай бұрын
I have done - will add some laterals as well when I start the next pour (it is pouring here at the moment). this is just the footing though, I will be drilling in rebar uprights for the block work too.

Great job you two. Would it be possible to resite the mixer closer to the shuttering to reduce the transfer time of the skid steer, just a thought. 😅
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
Trouble is the getting the trailer down the slope - it is too heavy to get it down there. So easier just to take the mix down. When we do the house we will try and move the aggregate a little closer.

does your tractor not have a power take off, you can get cement mixers to mount on the 3 point hitch.
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
I looked into these and they are €1200 here for the cheapest one I could find - plus we would need space to manoeuvre it around. This one was €200.
@paulkilp8 ай бұрын
could you have put the mixer on a pallet then use your pallet forks to move the mixer back and forth then pour the mixes right into the forms or would that be to heavy for the skid steer. when you said you got a new and bigger mixer i was thinking a skid steer mounted one silly me
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
We try and keep a mix going so as soon as we off load into he bucket then next mix is set. It would be pretty unstable as well as these cheaper mixers are not that sturdy. The attachments mixers are very expensive.
@ronbewsell55388 ай бұрын
why not set up closer to the formwork?
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
We can't get the trailer of sand and gravel down the slope very well. And that is the biggest part of the mix...I wish we could 😬
