That last bit ... getting the sounds you want before even recording ... spot on! That's how EMI did it with the Beatles. Best way. You have to commit. Glyn Johns these days won't go beyond 16-track ... and I started on 4-track ... learning to commit to a decision is a very empowering thing. Nice tour!

Getting it right at the front end so you don't have to fight too much later is the only way to go....I'ts the difference between a nightmare and a breeze whether you mix analog or in the box (which becomes very relative if you have good recordings).
@JayJ10956 жыл бұрын
It's probably a sign that you're a bit too into a band when you recognise a blurred image of a lesser-known live album in the background of a video (3:37 - I'm pretty sure that's HAARP by Muse with the yellow text on the black background)

I am surprised by the lack of SM-57's you have! Also no boundary mics. Nonetheless you have a knack for setting up any room. Also/lastly, check out a Sennheiser 109 for guitar amps. I have found them quite useful in a variety of applications.

Love the hell out of his place. It's super clean. Love clean. Like OCD clean. 😁
@mitsanut58694 жыл бұрын
Like it clean, too... but to be honest, I enjoyed playing the music most when in our band studio (30 years back) where everything was a mess; with cables everywhere, smoke everywhere, our sound guy constantly worked on everything and anything even as we were playing, but we felt like in heaven. These days, I am slowly building my own studio on cash basis (I don't intent to go into debt to satisfy my ego as this is just my hobby) and while I do like this man's set up, I don't want to have my studio this sterile looking. It's gotta look crazy. Essentially, I sense if your creative space is sterile, your music reflects it as well. If your space is polished, so will be your music, and so on... I like it really raw, you know? This here feels sort of like dentist's room - but then again, it's NOT meant to be taken as some sort of negative critique. It's just that while I am very clean guy, I like my creative space to LOOK chaotic and busy and bit hellish...not dirty but out of place, eccentric, original, dark and loaded with energy of chaos. Looking at lots of Presonus stuff - their stuff is very reasonably priced and quality is in par with much more expensive equipment others are selling.

Good video Joe. I like "use what you have". I have a similar sense of humor. I probably have some over kill going on myself considering this Is as one man operation here. All I am trying to accomplish at this point is to get a little instrumental piece recorded while working thru the key of C on the keyboard and try to learn the drums. (wish I had youtube 20 yrs ago) I have an electronic drum set, acoustic and electric guitars. Thanks for the tour.
