Joe, I think I should have watched this several years ago, now I am heading back to try and do this right the first time. Bless you, for sharing.

Recording drums for 11 songs tomorrow for our band's new album of original material, so this video could not have come at a better time...! I've made lots of notes. Thanks buddy!

My wife is a language arts teacher. Playback or listen to...not listen back. 😏 very helpful lesson here. Thanks again!

Joe - Thank you for chopping an overwhelming process into bite size pieces. So often the pressure is on and it becomes easy to 'settle' for a tone or a performance. Also, thank you for pointing out the possible pitfalls; set the drum levels/tone one mic at a time. I always have had all the drum mics on while sound checking the levels, etc. JZ PS I am getting a Mickey Mouse head for my control room. :-)

Haha. Great idea!

The "fix it in the mix" mentality is the hardest problem to overcome.

But it's SO worth it.

I agree with your upfront tracking sound / tone philosphy. I will never understand those whose first mixing move is to add plugins to the overall mix buss (Cochran).

I'm mostly with Graham on this. I don't add mix bus processing first, but it's pretty early in the process.

👍🏻nice Joe....! "You're da Man". Thanks for giving us the overall important issues', for us all! I like your Mickey Mouse analogy. Pre-production ~ (little ear) then emphasizing on getting it right @ recording phase (Mickey head) and then spend time on mixing (the other ear) Prefect👍🏻

Hi Joe, great videos, very helpful in making my first steps in recording and mixing in my home studio. What I’m missing (or maybe I overlooked in your tons of videos) is how to setup your individual channels when recording. You obviously would like to have eq and dynamics on it for the headphone mix, but do you also record it with these? Or does one want to record as raw as possible and do eq and stuff during mixing? Just a question I could not find the answer to in your videos so far... Thanks, Mark

I know you are being paid to sell Studio One, but the background is annoying.
