Instead of pool noodles, I just save up a few water bottles and toss them in the bottom of pots when planting, so I don't use as much soil. At the end of the season, I toss them into recycling and the plants into the compost bin.

5:31 Hostas are edible too and are traditionally consumed in Japan. Use the leaves like any other leafy green. The shoots taste nice and mild, kind of like a tightly wound butterhead lettuce that you can cook as an asparagus-type vegetable.

stop using gardening fabric it has plastic in it. you are putting micro plastics in your soil. use cardboard instead. if you use thicker cardboard put some holes in it. cereal box cardboard is ideal as it will retain moisture and allow some to seep thru to keep from over saturating the soil pass on this idea to keep micro-plastics out of our soil or at least minimize it
@wendyeames57587 ай бұрын
Same with the pool noodles. Just use empty soda cans
@Sunny-jz3dy7 ай бұрын
. You're not supposed to use any cardboard that have dye in it either! Lol. That's not good for the soil or your plants. Not to mention the clear coat over the dye & a lot of other commercial boxes. If you're using any of that type of stuff ...that they're using in a planter for flowers ...it's not a big deal. As long as the soil you're using is not dumped in your yard.

The problem with dollar store plastics is that they aren't really UV protected. So you put all this time and energy into a project that you will be tossing out after about a year in the sun. And adding more plastics to landfills. I will say though, the shoe brush idea is something I might try.
