I find it easier to pound in the pvc, if you cut the bottom at a 45 degree angle instead of straight across. The sharper point make pounding it in easier.
@Lady_of_Ishpeming2 ай бұрын
You can also get a couple of pieces of rebar and drive those in the ground. Place the pvc over them, and you have more stability. Angle the rebar out slightly so that when you slide the pvc over it, it will grip the pipe.

The indoor arch way was pretty cool. It looks like if you want to make it taller you wouldn't need to use the full circle. Prop up on something and wrap them like presents. Then do another bow on the bottom where it can hold it into place as well.

Being a landscaper, i watched him put that first arch together, and immediately thought if I was doing it o would use 45 degree elbows instead of 90's so it's more 'archy'. And I won't have the sag in it in the top middle of the arch. It just takes a little planning. I would recommend laying out the design on the ground so you get the measurements right. If you de-burr the pvc ends, the pipes will go together easier and 'seat' better as well. I like his ideas, I will try them next year, with a few upgrades.

Interesting idea... I might make some substitutions, though if I was going to make this. I would use black zip ties to scure the garland to the poles, and use a more Christmassy-colored plaid or fabric for the bow. You can also get large pre-made bows as well as the stiffly-formed big red ones that hold their shape and are made for outdoor use (won't get out of shape or wilt from wind or rain, all under $10 at Walmart, there is even one for outdoors with embedded LED lights for $7.99). I would also probably use a less in-your-face string of lights, like the strings of 100 either white or multicolored Christmas tree lights you can get very cheaply at someplace like Walmart (for instance, strings of 100 lights for $4.84). The ones I bought are still going strong after years of use.

Yes PVC pipe cracks when hit by a hammer. Any tube, short of thick metal, will crack, bend, snap or be crushed when hit by a hammer. To help “prevent” this from happening simply place a piece of wood, a 2X4 or 1/2” plywood for example, on the top of the PVC pipe. Now hammer the wood not the pipe. It’s that simple
