Agreed ... I switched to the A8, zero regrets, best streamer on the market to me. I find the ability to be able to "cast" the A8's screen to my iPhone and control everything from my phone is brilliant ... heads & shoulders above any other streamer control out there. The A8 is not without fault, but it is the best thing out there. After comparing various models, I went with the A8 over HiFi Rose and other more expensive brands ... it's just that much better.

@@JilesMcCoy Wow, that's surprising. RS150 is more than double the price (and for that reason one would expect it to be still better). I tested a DMP A6 in my system. It just was OK. Couldn't dethrone anything. I still have it, just use it for the screen only (combining my no screen MSB streaming DAC and the a A6 as one zone in Roon)

I had been using the similar Eweat (MyMei in China) DMP50 for around 18 months. It is based on the ES9038PRO Dac chip and while it is very good, the A8 is better. The A8's AKM DAC chip has even more detail with none of the top end harshness. I stopped listening to a lot of poorly recorded albums I owned as the DMP50 only highlighted their faults. The A8 makes those albums listenable again.

The set you have is quite nice! It would come down to the look and feel of the device, the control options, and the expanded capabilities as a pre amp. If you are using the WIIM only as a source you are likely in a very good spot.

I am using my ESS Saber DAC in my Parasound, wired LAN and upgraded ifi power supply with my WiiM Pro, to get the best out of it I can. Got the A8 and it's a whole other level above, if not two levels using its DAC, upgraded the power cord and high quality RCA cables of course. Not to mention the 2TB card and my whole CD collection installed!

It's a really good all rounder Streamer, but I wanted to go the route of streamer only and add my own Dac to it. So I bought the Hifi Rose RS130 and awaiting the release of the RD160 DAC

I have a Cary Audio DMS-700 in my reference system. I have been building a second system and have been thinking of going with either the DMP-A8 or the Hifi Rose RS150a. Since you had a 150a how do they compare (in sound signature) to each other?

I have a Marantz A/V Receiver with HEOS streaming and NAS playback... seems like a "streamer" like the EverSolo units would be redundant. Am I missing something?

In your case probably yes. In my system this is the only box. So its streamer and preamp and DAC. Does everything but amplification.

I had an SR5015 Marantz with HEOS and the A8 kills it. Firstly the A8 can handle higher bitrate files than my Marantz (don't know what more expensive models can handle) and the Eversolo app is way better than HEOS. I have ripped all my CDs to Flac files and the HEOS app could not alphabetically sort the folders correctly and would often freeze up on me.

Screen is way to small if your seating position distance is 8' or more. App + Streaming (Quobuz) control is clunky when trying to use the song progress bar or starting the track over. Can't restart the song and if I want to change the progress bar to say: 2:34 in a song, progress bar jumps to a different time.

Hello, great review! I use an Oppo UDP 203 that goes into a Mcintosh C2200 pre. I AB tested the Eversolo A8 and the Oppo. As a streamer superb, but the DAC in my oppo sounds fuller, mid bass much nicer, female vocals much better. Do you think the Rose 150 would do a better job in that aria? Can you think of a streamer with a fuller sound than the A8. Thank you very much! Would appreciate your answer.

I would use an outboard DAC that you can swap around as you desire.

It's not roon-ready and it's not clear if A8 is ever getting roon ready. It's the only flaw but it still forgivable as the sound is warm because of the excellent AKM Velvet DAC and the R2R preamp implementation! A still missing roon certificate is workable as u can connect a mini PC(the PC runs roon client as a streamer for you) via USB. But the R2R and Velvet DAC are not replaceable - it's what makes the A8 so refined in it's warmer sound.

For $2195 the Hifi Rose RS201E gives you an actual built in amp at 50w x 2 as well as pre-outs which you can wire for sub-out and it is plenty loud especially with a powered sub. The interface is intuitive and the DAC sound quality is incredible, perhaps better than Eversolos. I'm sure Eversolos are plenty good but at $1980 it seems like they should offer real amplification as a true all in one option.

An external amp will almost always provide more options and better control of your speakers. I used a Naim uniti atom for a while, and good as it was it showed me that getting back to seperates is definitely a much better route.

Been thinking about the Eversolo A8. Currently have the Marantz sr8015 and a home built Roon Server that i use to send HEOS/Airplay to the AVR witelessly or via an HDMI output from the Roon server via cable to the AVR. Will the $1900 really make that much of a difference? I do seem to notice better quality when I plug the ROON servers hdmi into the reciever rarher than sending wirelessly through HEOS/Airplay. Is the wired conection better? Is yhe DAC in the Eversolo A8 better than the DAC built into the Marantz SR8015? One other question will the A8 work with multi channel like Aura 3D? Any comments appreciated. Thanks

You can find antennas in Azon,eB. And even WMar. I feel they can pull in sound from your wifi better. Many audio components companies only give you small 3 inch antennas. Antennas are found at 7-15 inches as well.

@@Smigor Not so sure that is possible. In order to stream flac quality from Deezer it needs to be a hifi supported device on Deezers website. None of the Eversolo products are listed there. Am I missing something?

I think you'll find it does. There is an Android Deezer app that effectively streams the full quality you set in the app. The Eversolo engine curtails the 48Khz resampling issue of Andoid.

@@NeilLavitt I understand the app very well as I've had Dee.zer for the last 6 years or so. I know you can go into settings and set it to high quality but these are makes it very clear that the source device needs to be in their list to stream Flac quality. There are no ever solo devices listed in their Hi-Fi device list. Are you saying that you are using the ever solo app and on the album art it is saying hi-fi ? I'm interested in getting an Ever solo product but I've avoided it since it's not listed as a high-five device on deezer's website

What I personally don't get is how reviewers get into the most crazy technical details, but leave out so obvious issues like the noise the volume control is causing. I was kind of shocked when I first used my A8's volume control: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJmZgamom657d80 To me that's a absolute no-go when used as a pre-amp.

I don't have experience on A8, but if you have a decent DAC and are after best value streamer, just buy the Wiim pro with external Linear power supply with after market power and usb cable. I have returned Eversolo A6 after comparing it to Wiim pro. Wiim pro with external LPS with after market cable sounded better than Eversolo A6, Wiim showed clear differences between MP3 and HiRes files and HiRes file sounded even better than CD. Also Wiim was richer better textured than A6 which was a little too bright on my system. Some reviewer from KZbin think Wiim pro with a decent DAC like Gustard R26 sounds better than Eversolo DMP-A8.

@@JilesMcCoy Its running Android 11, released September 8, 2020. Support status: Unsupported as of February 5, 2024. This product will be EOL in no time with an out-of-date OS connected to the internet. It's asking for trouble from the infosec perspective and the high risk, as half of the functionality will likely be broken in a few years. SW maintenance is challenging, mainly when you rely on 3rd party OS. No one will pay an army of devs for something sold 3 years ago when you have new things to code. You can do it if you're Samsung.

@@JilesMcCoy My system is in a room with my PC. I like to control everything using the PC. I also get KZbin Music for free because I subscribe to Premium. So it's great for me. I have the Eversolo DMP-A8. Had it since march. Best piece of kit I bought in years, Love it. But unfortunately I have to run an Android TV box into to it to do the casting. Don't mind cos I get the cool screen and artwork lyrics etc that come with KZbin. I can also link other devices in the house to play in sync. Just annoying that it doesn't support it. Like so many devices, Chromecast seems to be bottom of the pile. Don't get it.
