I saw a demo in 2020 in MT Hope Ohio. I was sold on the simplicity as well and they are well built. I asked them if they could build a bed that I could mill a 45' log, and they said absolutely, without hesitation. I plan to build my dream 1850s log home with a mill and a broadax. Great intro on the sawmill. New subscriber :)

After watching videos hundreds of times on different mills and setups by sawyers, I have concluded one thing. Once you have your mill set up and functioning, You should dedicate part of each day that you mill with sawing the needed lumber to build a shed for your mill and storing it near by so you can then build a good shelter for the mill!
@dukeman75953 жыл бұрын

You can also cut fire wood with it. Put your fire wood log on and quarter it if that's too big then make slab cuts to get your thickness then roll log a quarter finish your quarter cut or slab cuts. Pick up log place it on a jig/buck and saw to length. Then stack your fire wood.

I bought a very similar lap siding jig for my Woodmizer, and after the first use of it, it hung on the wall of my mill shed for about 10 years unused until someone came along and bought it to make shingles (actually wedges for the mobile home industry). It IS quite handy for making sawed shingles, but for lap siding, they suck. The PROBLEM with the attachment is you have to saw logs into cants......6-8" wide (depending on what you want for siding....I do 8"), then move the cant, then load the attachment, then load the can INTO the attachment. Moving a 16'x8"x12-16" cant isn't easy, even with a Bobcat, there is a fair amount of man handling. Well guess what......two small pieces of plywood shims ( I use a 2" x 2" x 5/8" thick pc) DOES THE EXACT SAME THING. I simply saw a log into a cant 8" wide by however tall the log will square out, cock it with a peavy (which, by the way, is a HECK of a lot faster than than log turner thing), stick the shims between the bed rail and cant bottom, and saw a tapered pc of siding. Un-cock the cant, remove the shims, saw the next pc. Continue until you run out of cant. End of cant spray painted black for clarity: photos.shutterfly.com/album/40150781227/full/40616593627 Many times faster and less work than using the attachment, which is WHY it hung on my mill shed wall for 10 years. Another tip when sawing lap siding: (especially poplar which is mostly what I have to saw) As shown in the photo above, leave the sawed pcs ON the cant as you saw. Lot of logs will 'stress relief' as you saw them and arch up in the middle or the ends. The last pcs of siding will be thick/thin middle to end unless you keep the weight of the previous pcs on TOP to help keep the remain part in place. Same tip applies to sawing lumber in species like small poplar logs that tend to arch unbelievably as you saw them. Turns out the woods is a way more stressful environment that one would have guessed......ahahhahaaaaaa
