Playing with and also against some of the best Homeworld players was extremely challenging but also very fun, and now I will share with you everything I have learned in these amazing 2v2 team multiplayer matches in Homeworld Remastered.
The opening of a team game differs little from 1v1 matches I have shown you in my previous videos, besides agreeing with your teammate on who will collect resources where and which class of ship you will focus on producing. In the opening minutes of gameplay we all build extra harvesters and get our capital ships, with drop off points for those harvesters, into the optimal positions and that is always the same in any match, just adapted for the unique wealth and distribution of nearby asteroid fields on each map.
Deserted_Eagle, my team mate in yellow using the Vaygr faction took an aggressive stance occupying the asteroid field near the center with his carrier as a resource collection point, and has set up several wings of assault craft as both a defensive screen and a deterrent to the enemy team in case Battlestar wanted to take the initiative and collect resources in the richest middle asteroid field.
I on the other hand, using the Hiigaran faction, am not contributing to our combined firepower but have extended my resource collection operation to three asteroid files as my task is to rush for the construction of a shipyard with its battlecruisers.
Now you might wonder why bother with the skirmish of small fighter craft when we can build battlecruisers 10 minutes into a match?
The two main reasons are the vulnerability of capital ship subsystems to smaller craft as well as protection of harvesters. Because fighters, bombers and to some extent corvettes are capable of endangering your harvesting operations few minutes into a match. They can quickly cover big distances on Homeworld maps and if you spend all your resources on research and construction of the biggest combat ships you are vulnerable to such attacks.
