The new owners are clearly the perfect stewards for this mid-century home. I love how they collected carefully to give the home an updated look without it feeling forced. The husband did terrific work on those cabinets too! Lovely and calming home. ❤

You and your husband were destined to be the stewards of this fantastic quality mid-century home. I get sick to my stomach when developers or new owners gut these charming features. Obviously, the original owners had pride of ownership and took very good care of the home. Thank goodness the heirs (my peers) were smart enough to pass the house on to someone who would value it as is. I am sure the spirit of the house is delighted to go on with a new family who recognize its charm. Your husband did a fantastic job with the kitchen and wet bar area. It looks organic to the home. Your child is blessed to be able to grow up in this home. Thank you for the heartfelt tour.

This tour epitomizes the types of homes I love the most on Homeworthy: approachable, curated, lived in, vintage, affordable pieces, etc. I could live in that kitchen ❤

I’m right there with her. When the treasures of the home are based on a legacy of family and the period, it carries with it a richness that is incomparable. The owner’s appreciation of the home’s history and her personal journey in creating the environment becomes a sustainable quality. It’s like reading a line in poetry written two generations prior that still speaks to today.

It is so lovely to see a young woman LOVE the midcentury era and remain brave enough and confident enough to keep the lovely old details of this beautiful home. Too many would have ripped out those wonderful bathrooms! There are FB groups dedicated to the preservation of tile and bathrooms just like these. Girl after my own heart - I loved this episode!

What a beautiful, cozy home😃. They have an incredible feeling for this home and how to style it well. I love all the woodwork that has been there and that was built by Carlottas husband. The furniture, the color, all the family pieces, the reading nook, I love this home!! And fun fact: Telgte is 1 hour away from where I live in Germany 😉 Would be lovely to meet her if she ever comes to Germany again😊All the best to Carlotta and her family 🍀 and greetings from Germany 😊

Thanks to Carlotta for the great narration about her family history, her approach to decorating, her budgetary realism, and how she retained so many features from the previous owners. And the custom cabinet fronts-meets-IKEA approach to the kitchen is a great idea. Alles Gute und todo lo mejor for this cool owner and her family in their serendipitous sunken living room house!

Loved your house! Excellently curated. We had a mid century also and it went well with our eclectic furnishings. My mom commented that most homes from that time were similarly decorated. People couldn't afford all the furnishings of the same period unless they had money and didn't have connections to anything family. Great job!

Here's an idea for you. The guest bath with the flower wallpaper that matches the stained glass window- you can have that wallpaper remade. Since you are a graphic artist you may know that the paper can be copied exactly. I saw a homeworthy show where she has fabric copied to architect paper to wrap gifts. That gave me an idea.

I am thrilled to hear that the contractor who wanted to rip everything down to its studs, lost his chance to purchase this property. Just because the contractor will pay more in financial terms, doesn’t make it the right choice. This house was custom built and should remain close to what it was for the original family members who grew up in their sentimental home. I am really happy to listen about the fact that they those adult children were able to lay out a plan to get the best possible caretaker of this house. Even though they initially took the contractor’s offer and handwritten letter over this lady’s letter and offer, however, they had a hard look into the future of their home and decided that the extra money provided by the contractor was not the best choice for them after all!!! I’m genuinely happy to see young people choosing to live in an older home that has such unique features, and also being able to preserve the home without knocking down all walls and all appliances tore out. I mean they will be renovating this home for practical and functional purposes of course, and make sure the house is safe with updated electrical wiring, hvac, internet, etc.
