The House Upstairs founder Jodie Hazlewood welcomes us inside her beautifully restored home in Nottingham, England.
For more extraordinary home tours, visit our website: homeworthy.com/
Jodie, a former fashion merchandiser and makeup artist, had the opportunity to pursue her passion for interior design when she and her partner, Ollie, acquired their home during the early days of the COVID lockdown. Though the property was built for a lacemaker in 1875, it had fallen into a state of disrepair that demanded an extensive renovation - a project Jodie was excited to take on.
During the renovation, the construction work unveiled a treasure trove of beautiful original Victorian stained glass windows, intricate plasterwork, and exquisite friezes. Jodie skillfully incorporated a delightful blend of vintage decor, budget-friendly discoveries, and vibrant splashes of color, breathing life and character back into the home. Throughout the design process, Jodie aimed to infuse the home with the essence of her and Ollie's passions, creating an eclectic and inviting atmosphere that exudes a feeling of a well-lived space. Enjoy!

I do love to get to know Ms. Hazlewood but its so unfortunate that the photographer focuses on her instead of what she's trying to show us! Your viewers are here to see the house and we only get seconds of what the talented designer is trying to highlight. I've found this to be true for so many Homeworthy videos.

Yes, love this channel and all the homes. Glad we are getting more videos, just want the quality of filming to remain consistent as the earlier films. Slow movements over the furniture or showcasing the rooms, right quality of camera to counteract natural light to showcase right colours, and showing the homes with a tour from the guests. Still a big fan!

I agree! It’s been a trend lately--focusing on the life story of the owner and every backstory for each wot not and Knick knack. Some of that is good and interesting, but the focus should remain on overall interior design, architecture, landscape, etc IMO.

Definitely one of my favorite homes that you’ve ever showcased. It is also comfortable looking and lived in. And nothing about it looks formal. I’m not a big fan of the houses that look formal and yet the owner says you can sit anywhere put your feet on anything and yet you look around and you would never ever do that. This place looks like I could really live there.

Loved that she's not afraid of color! Loved the accent. Loved what she said about a house looking lived in and not too pristine. Hate when I walk into a house and it looks like a bank lobby or a funeral parlor, or a hotel lobby. This was fun!🎉

Homeworthy, you delight and inspire me. The range of homes that you find is incredible. I look forward to each episode and watch my favorites over and over. What I find interesting is the level of ‘love’ that each person brings to their home. So many times they say how much they love something either for its sentimentality or simply because it’s beautiful. Here we are in a gorgeous eclectic home in England, before that it was a very curated home on Nantucket and before that Bermuda. Thank you so very much for finding these homes and thank you to everyone who graciously shares them with us.

I love what Jodie created, her eclectic style and love of colour. Her designed furniture pieces are stunning. Jodie is down to earth and real, just lovely. I love that she is not shy to say that she sources things from fleamarkets, Ikea, online, desingers, etc. Often the best things that are found are picked up at a second hand shop, fleamarkets, charity shops, etc. Those quirky pieces that have age and patina that bring out the individual personalities of one's home. Jodie is real to be able to say "when we didn't have the budget, we put in a steel shelf in the kitchen" , or "when we need to save on electricity, we can light a wood burner in winter". The coffee station in the lounge off their main bedroom is a great idea. I can see her and her partner all cozy, making a nice cup of coffee, and cuddling on the couch next to a crackling fire and waking up to the day. I can see her and her partner have put their heart and soul into their home. It appeals to me in every way. Inside and out. It is truly a home filled with love and their fur baby. Wishing them many years of joy in their lovely home. 🏡

I've seen this home before and couldnt resist watching again. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at one of their dinner party's, I bet there's a real friendly atmosphere with lots of interesting conversation and raucous laughter as the night wears on.🍾🥂. I love the green in the guest room and the charming sitting room ajoining their bedroom. The wallpaper is absolutely perfect. Such a lovely lady too. Downside is the filming, they didn't allow us time to see details, let alone the items and features she was talking about. Not sure if this was not your usual cameraman because it was filmed in England. This episode could have been so much better, given that she was allowing us to look in hidden/closed in cupboards etc, not the usual glass doored china cabinets that are always pristine.

This is not necessarily the norm. Where I live, most people seem to be into monochromatic colours and modern furniture. So much of the home appears cold. Meanwhile, I seem to sit alone in my English country 1940s inspired interior. No, it’s not full of patterns, but it is full of comfort with traditional English country colours.

I would have loved to have SEEN THE HOUSE. Honestly, PLEASE get someone behind the camera who knows what they are doing because this was terrifically frustrating and amateurish. This channel has the most exquisite designers and their houses, and I love the fact that the interviews are longer than most (I really love that. REALLY!) But I just sat here being frustrated that all the things Jodie was talking about/describing were out of view (!) or only momentarily focused on. The camera work was choppy. Panning in and out would have been good. (We even see Ms. Hazlewood backing up! Come on! ). We can hear what she's describing but don't get to SEE those things as she is talking about them. WHY?

Love the dining hall, gives such a great flow. I now want a rocking horse mould! Gorgeous ottomans, chairs and fabrics throughout. The tiger print was a particularly beautiful one and the vintage chair in the bedroom is the stuff of dreams. Another excellent, inspiring tour. I Echo what the other people are saying about the videography. Show less photos of the house in the very beginning of the video. Sort of ruins the entire thing and show more of the things that they are showing us as they are showing it rather than showing their face or video of them sitting down for the interview. I've mentioned the Potted boxwood on this channel and in the beginning their videos were shoddy with the videography but as the channel is grown it's gotten better and the way they tour the houses and show everything is just so detailed. You guys have an amazing way of having lots of tours which they don't do however.

Her style is awesome, wonderful colors, and delightful lady. But whoever filmed this...I feel like I didn't really get to actually see the home...hardly every panned out to see any of the rooms...they focused on her the entire time...would liked to have actually seen the house!

She's is a very beautiful lively woman. But why aren't you showing the home? You can't let her speak and stand back so we can view each room? Thank u for allowing us to see her home 😊

Her attitude and approach to design is refreshing and wonderfully instructional it is therefore unfortunate that the camera person/editor/producers did not actually SHOW US the fruits of her very dedicated work...the audience really missed an opportunity to delve visually deeper into her approach because your team continues to focus on the presenter and not the interiors that we as subscribers are here to see...please do better going forward
