Homo antecessor is an extinct hominin species believed to have lived in Europe over 1 million years ago. Fossils of this early human ancestor were discovered in Spain, particularly at the Atapuerca archaeological site. Homo antecessor is strange because it shares both primitive and more advanced traits. This ancient hominin is believed to have been a skilled toolmaker and a meat-eater, providing valuable insights into early human dietary and behavioral patterns. The study of Homo antecessor continues to contribute to our understanding of human origins and our complex evolutionary history.

Your story reminded me of a quote by Christopher McDougall, “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.” I enjoy your thoughtful approach to anthropology.

It seems to me that life back then must have been hard, beautiful, violent, and full of love for the land, the family that was everything, the one real love they found with so few options. Intense moments of triumph, periods of horrific suffering. What a rollercoaster!

People don't change. We are still for the most part the same exact animal that lived all those millenia ago. In other words, it's complicated. Just the same as it is now. The news would have you believe you're likely to get shot stepping outside, or die of a flu with a 99.99901% survival rate. But factually speaking, there's never been a safer time to be alive. That being said, there are areas of the globe, mostly those with no money or too many resources, that are a living hell. Again, it's super complicated 😂

Hey @North02 I just want to say I’m happy to see how far you’ve come, and continue to go! I started watching you around 5 years ago when you were brand new, and had few followers compared to now. At that time, I watched a lot of Trey the Explainer, who just wasn’t posting much at that time, and you filled that void wonderfully! Then I remember in one of your earlier videos, you actually mentioned Trey and how they were a big influence to you in making videos, and I was like “that makes so much sense”! I think it would be cool if you guys did a collaboration video since your channels work in tandem together so well as it is. Anyways, keep up the amazing work man! Beautiful and well-chosen imagery, we are allowed to appreciate it rather than cutting away a second later. Interesting details that are explained succinctly. The short story was good, Hardships were undoubtedly a reality, but as you said yourself with the success of their longevity of Antecessor, it would be important to show the successes too if you continue these stories.

23:30 I know someone who was invited to dinner by friends in the Philippines. They were surprised when they were served a dish containing meat. This was very rare especially seeing that the family was quite poor. They commented on this and their hosts said, casually that it was nothing, as the dog had recreantly had puppies. Now he had a problem. The fact he was being served dog meat caused him to completely lose his appetite. But to refuse to eat would be extremally rude. Serving meat was a great sacrifice for the family, and the family was saying to their guests "You are worthy of such sacrifice." He learned that if you are in the Philippines and you are served meat, just eat it. Assume it is beef and enjoy it. Don't ask where it came from.

Excellent! The short story, as imaginative as it may be, adds a delightful dimension to this very interesting discipline of studying our ancestors. Focusing only on the technical aspects of the anatomy, or tool making technology or any other technicality of a species, while interesting, can get old very quickly for a layman like me. Great job on adding the story!

Somehow I got your station channel on my algorithm, surprisingly, the algorithm got it right. This was an incredibly good video I especially appreciated the story. It tied in all the loose ends that cold anthropology overlooks, well done, I’ve subscribed.

Great Video! Thanks a lot, this is quite the undercovered topic and it's really interesting to think about how early hominids might survive in Europe. Even in Spain, I wonder how they made it through the Winters.
