On the question of are Homo Neandartalis a separate species from Homo Sapiens this may become a Pandora's box of unaccepted answers. We identify Neanderthal fossils by racial traits (larger nose, larger muscular build, recessive hair colors). However using the same techniques you can identify Homo Sapien remains by ethnic classification. For example the Polynesian "rocker jaw". So if we identify Homo Neandarthalis as a distinct species from us (accepting that we are close enough genetically to produce fertile offspring) wouldn't that also suggest Asian, African, European, and Native American populations are distinct species of Hominid? What this delves into is where does race and species diverge? The answer seems to vary by species as horses and donkeys are unable to produce offspring. Human genetics proves our DNA is much easier to mix. This is most likely because predators favor genetic diversity for hunting while herbivores prefer standardization for group survival. So horses and donkeys don't favor slower offspring. So if you met a Neandarthal one day would you shriek "oh my God that's a horrifying Ape" or would you call it "a tribe". In my opinion our assumption of human development is exceptionally flawed. There were certainly huge differences between us and Australeopithicus. But would we recognize a difference between us and Neandrthalis or dare I say other human ancestors? There is surely a point at which humans recognize an animal and not a human. But that's us looking back in a time machine. Even the oldest human ancestors would not have noticed slight genetic differences that were created slowly over millions of years. They wouldn't notice as they would just see other tribes. And each generation they would diversify more and more until an observer like us would recognize a different species, but not our ancestors. The origin of human dominance over this planet is our species' ability to diversify (our genetic radiation) not our brains. We are a new form of evolution itself. And in that everything from Homo Herbegansis is either the same race or each human ethnicity represents a new species.

"Permafrost is soil that stays frozen for 2 or more years." Dude, what are you missing about the PERM part of the word "permafrost"? Maybe "frost" from 2 years, but no perm. Permafrost is ground that's been nearly permanently frozen. Centuries or millennia, not 2 years.

Excellent work as always. I have no problem with subsistence hunting. I don't like trophy hunting where the animal goes to waste. I'm a fisherman, and I think it is important that we maintain skills necessary to survive in nature. Hunting and fishing are vital skills to maintain in society.

How do we know that Neanderthals did not have monolids and epicanthic folds? After all Neanderthals evolved in the same cold, windy environments with bright reflective light. Are there genetic markers or anatomical skull traits that tell us eye shape?

Why does “literally” have to be used so often? To say two hominids crossed paths.. is there a figurative way that this could be taken? No, to cross paths is to meet face to face, not something you can do conceptually or figuratively or whatever other than literally. Taken in the context you were speaking, if someone asked me if they literally crossed paths I’d ask them “you stupid or what?” This isn’t fantasy or fiction, when did people become so fanciful with reality that “literally” became so prevalent in communication?

I'm Slavic and I'm impressed by how well less developed nations are recovering after colonization. In Poland, Marzanna is drowned to this day, mainly by children in kindergartens as a kind of fun, and no one seems to care that this is a pagan custom concerning human sacrifices. It is a bit sick but shows the scale of the ignorance. Pagan traditions still exist in our lives and it is impossible to eradicate such a thing. That's why I wish they would teach me at school that Roman Christians have not been saviors at all, they have burned most of the forest, ideologically - to destroy pagan gods, but actually leading to a natural disaster, depriving these people access to food, construction material, exposing wooden Grodes to extripation. Slavs were under the rule of many tribes and it seems like all the others respected us more than this one and sometimes I really envy the germans for resisting. I would like to find out the truth about the people whose history I carry, give them at least a substitute for justice, because despite regaining independence, I still feel like something is tying me down, or more like some part of me is still suppressed. This weird thing is increasingly reaching into more aspects of my life and it's already getting problematic. "Wild" cultures in Asia, Africa, Americas and Australia can release and fight for their memory and existence, but for some reason it is still considered ridiculous in Europe

The austronesian origin of Sundaland theory is quite impossible right? Because if Austronesian people living in Sundaland for over 50 or 30 thousand years ago then austronesian people should have be dark skin also like negritos because they living in equator line for 50 to 30 thousands years ago and they should be mutated simmilar to Negritos phenotype.....but it's not, instead modern austronesian have similar phenotype to East Asians... Means the ancestors of modern austronesian may have been in south china since modern austronesian have light brown skin and their phenotype mutated in colder place for over 30 thousand years ago

The old being useless in pre writing/tech days is an insane stance for anyone to take, even if all the old person did was sit there all day, and talk, the amount of knowledge of the world and how to survive in it would be an amazing resource, not to mention experiences regarding next steps for the tribes to take. I am honestly surprised anyone ever thought this if true. Even in the case where a society may do it, I'm sure one or multiple people in the tribe have the same knowledge so it won't be lost.
