Understanding "There," "Their," and "They're"
In English, "there," "their," and "they're" sound the same, but they have different meanings. Let's learn how to use each one correctly.
1. "There" is used to talk about a place. It tells us where something is. For example:
"The cat is over there on the sofa." This means the cat is in that place on the sofa.
2. "Their" shows that something belongs to someone. It is used to show ownership. For example:
"Their house is very big." This means the house belongs to them.
3. "They're" is a short way of saying "they are." It is used when you want to talk about what someone is doing or how they are. For example:
"They're going to the park." This means "They are going to the park."
Let’s look at some examples:
"There": "The keys are there on the table." (The keys are in that place.)
"Their": "This is their dog." (The dog belongs to them.)
"They're": "They're eating lunch now." (They are eating lunch.)
Remember:
Use "there" to talk about a place.
Use "their" to show that something belongs to them.
Use "they're" when you mean "they are."
With practice, you will get better at using these words correctly!
