The 1985-88 Fourtrax 250 have the single handle bar headlight that can be removed with a cord attached, too. When you have a large load on the front rack, that's the only disadvantage to them. I have a 1985 Fourtrax 250 and a 1996 Fourtrax 300 4x4. Rock solid machines! I don't see myself replacing them ever. I bought the 1985 used in 2001. I had the starter rebuild once in 20 years. Even then, I just kick started it for a year or two before I had it rebuilt. Outside of the oil, filters, & spark plugs - that's the only service it has needed. It's been used quite a bit, and it did all my snow plowing for me until I upgraded to the 1996 4WD 300 last year. I couldn't justify buying a new Rancher or one of the other Honda models when I could get a really nice used 300 for about 1/3 the cost.

That could be a number of things. The CDI box is up under the front end so that could have sparks if it’s shorting out. Also check your coil and coil wire on the front of the engine to make sure a stick or something hadn’t damage the spark plug wire or coil wires. Probably wouldn’t hurt to jack the front end up and spin the wheels to see if you have a wheel bearing going out. That’s just a few ideas. I would start by looking at all the wires and relays to make sure nothings exposed. If you don’t see anything look over the front end real good. Let me know what you find please

@pineylife2 жыл бұрын
@@berniceperry8898 Wow, Man that sounds like a mess. Well there is two boxes under the front fenders mounted up next to the handlebar location.. There is a large one and a small one. if you can get to the large one. grab it and squeeze it real hard. Then try to start it. If its got spark the CDI box is going out. The little box beside it is your oil alarm that goes to your light. There's a good possibility its the CDI. I have replaced mine twice. So Check those. The stator in your motor is what charges your battery. It sends voltage to your regulator which send the voltage to your battery. It could be your regulator went bad and over charged your battery. The regulator is mounted to the frame usually under the rear fender it will have ribs on it like a amp does. Try squezzing the cdi to see if you have power and then kick start or roll it over by the switch to see if you have power. if not put a battery on it and check the voltage at the coil plug in to see if you have 12 volts.

The exhaust Is a factory pipe coming from the head to muffler. Then it was hooked to a cobra exhaust but it was really loud so I got a 12 inch long by 6 inch round car muffler and a couple of 90 bends and welded one side to the cobra exhaust outlet and welded the other end to the inlet of the muffler and welded the other 90 bend to the outlet of the muffler. It quietened it way down. I got the idea from the older utv stealth mufflers. Oh yeah and for a bracket I got a piece of steel rod and welded to the outlet of the muffler.
