Honda 350 ATV Logging (Small Scale Logging)

Mint Condition 1990 Honda 350 ATV. Still has original tires. Pulled much better then expected. Who needs a 1000!

Still some of the old Honda’s running around here too. Great bikes! I used to take big loads out of our property with my Big Red. But I had to corduroy spots too. My 400 Kawasaki bayou would pull like a tractor! Nice video. I always loved working in the bush.

id be more impressed if you had the bike with 15000 miles on it... anyone can park something and let it depreciate without using it.. much better to use it till the wheels fall off then fix it and use it some more

I have a Polaris 500 with a trailer that I usually load a third of a cord of wood onto, sometimes I will load a half cord but that is getting a little heavy. I use a pair of log tongs to drag two logs at once up to around 12inch diameter, but I am a larger frame person. Anything bigger I use the tractor, I have 3/8 grab hooks welded to all my front and rear implements which gives you a ton of options for skidding large logs. I just built a pair of large log tongs for my tractor that should be able to grab logs up to two feet in diameter that I will be trying out tomorrow for the first time.

I have a honda 500 and a tractor with a logging winch. I use my ATV a lot for logging. Less roads to make and get into places where a tractor cannot. I have been at this small scale logging business for 40 years at you have a nice set up. I like seeing young people out working instead of sitting playing video games and not learning new skills. I skid trees all the time with my 250 king quad suzuki. Most are birch, a foot in diameter. Don't see the need for a larger machine. However I may have to get a trailer like yours.

I have a 350 as well for taking out logs the same as yours, mine is a single axle trailer but going to make a double, mine is an late 80s model could have done with a low box for the steeper bits, my friend has gave me his Polaris 500 to use for doing a bit that’s a bit steep ,a different beast altogether with the low box, no full throttling to get up out to the road, I don’t think he’s getting it back. Hey, I love the woods, have a Timberry sawmill, buzz saw for the BX 2670, a logging trailer with a princess auto truck boom I adapted to it and 4500lb winch I customized with remote. I have been cutting wood since I was 12 with my fist chainsaw I bought with beer bottles I collected. I just can’t get enough of the woods, so I bought a hundred acres of woodland🤪. I would like to offer a friendly tip, working wrong in the woods makes your body old fast. Just like to suggest that you start doing less bull lifting and start using some physics. Pull up parallel to the pile and put a log rest pivot on one of your posts to swing the log around on one end and place it rather then bull lifting. The twisting is going to catch up ion you. A winch is worth the time to plan for, even a hand crank geared winch is better then nothing. I say this all with respect and consideration for you. Stay calm and Timber on!

I hear you, I am now using the trailer for stuff smaller in dimension, like 6-8 inches diameter max if I’m manually lifting. If I’m cutting any wood over 8 inches in 8 foot lengths I will load them and unload them using our Kubota.

In my area no. So many people have flustered the market that there is just to much supply and not enough demand. We cut firewood for ourselves and for 2 customers, we don’t get much money from it but it needs to go. Our forests are overgrown and there is a lot of blowdowns and tree deaths all the time. We are doing it manly because we enjoy it and to make our forest and ecosystem more healthy.

@@theworksoutdoors8142 I beleive you're in America or Canada, but i live in Cumbria north of England, UK. My Dad owns a deciduous woodland, 11 acres, and we don't have any vehicles or heavy duty machinery. How much did the quad bike and trailer cost?

Edward Norton Racing this setup can cost you anywheres from 2500-5 thousand in Canada. It may seem awfully hard to justify but you have to realize that the trailer won’t cost much to maintain for as long as it’s around, which the trailer itself should theoretically never “go bad” something as simple as that can always be repaired. The atv is from the early 90’s and is in very good condition still. So when you stop and do some math, new it probably cost around 4500 divided by however many years (27) it equals out to 166$ year excluding maintenance and fuel. It’s a no brainer to me. I couldn’t picture myself doing everything By hand especially on 11 acres. The only other thing you may want to consider is a tractor.
