Great restoration, unusual to see one that is with the same family for so many years. Keep the bike, please please please don't convert it. We'll be knee deep in electric bikes soon, and this is a piece of history that deserves to be protected. I don't know if you've seen any other cub restorations, but there's a guy in Scotland did a great job on one. His channel is RRC Restorations. Well worth a look 👍🇦🇺

Looks great! I bought one of these new in about 1982 - it was called the Honda Passport, but I think it was exactly the Honda 50. The dealer was clearing it out - paid about $395 for it. Such a sweet scooter - I loved it. But it led to dreams of something bigger and I sold it a few years later. Wish I could get it back again...

Yeah I like the vintage look. These bikes are fun and have character. I think we have all let something go we wish we could get back. When this happens to me, I try to be thankful that it was in my life and now someone else gets to enjoy it. But doesn’t always help. 😕

Here in Ireland The Honda 50 changed to the slightly newer model in 1967,both my brother and sister bought one each.In 1972 I bought one new I was 16,I paid £140 my road tax was £2.50 and my insurance was £12.50 for a year The reg no was TAI 198.I had moved up from a 5 speed bicycle.50 years later and 25 motorbikes and countless cars later I still love my bikes I have traveled over most of Europe and I am heading back to Spain and Portugal for a month at least in September.Not too bad for an old age pensioner?

Great job - looks awesome. Your 50 is the exact same model as mine, though mine is black and two years older ( 1964 ). We bought ours new when I was 9. It has been through 4 families including ours - my father re-located it in 2000 and we acquired it back at that time ( I have a restoration shop at my residence - now starting a full restoration of the bike ). Yours is the base model that came without turn signals - those blank signal lenses with the recessed screw on one side are virtually unobtanium. I notice that your engine guard ( plastic semi-flexible part ) is gone. My guard is still there but needs some repair. I've had to do some minor welding to the press-frame near the engine mounts, but should be ok. The original carb was trashed and another semi-original was installed... which was also trashed. I bought the Indonesian replica off eBay that requires a little milling to get the mount flange to fit the cylinder studs, but hopefully will work well - it looks close to the original but has no "tickler". I am re-spoking the wheels - my rims still look good, spokes are not. I will be powder coating all of the metal parts - using a two stage on the handlebar and frame/rear fender part. I figure that the engine has 30-50 thousand miles on it - my brother and I put 33k on it before trading it off back in 1971. I have replaced the clutch plate, the cylinder and bought new piston, pin, and rings. New valves. I have one question for you - the rubber blank plugs that fit in the rear fender where the C102 turn signals went... were yours still good or did you find a source for them, or did you improvise? Thanks and congrats again.
@CodeMakesItGo
@CodeMakesItGo 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I still have the motor guard. I just removed it to have better shots of the engine. The rubber blanks for the rear turn signals are original. It looks like a part that could be easily 3d printed though. Thanks for watching, good luck on your restoration.

@@CodeMakesItGo Thanks. What paint did you use for the plastic parts? I've used Krylon's Fusion on plastic before, but not on finish body parts like the headlight cowling and front fender. Also did you sand or lightly scuff them up before painting?

Replied with my other account last time. I used Dupli-color spray paint. I did sand the plastic a bit too before painting. Mostly to get off the oxidation and file down some scratches in the plastic.

Good work. You shouldn’t fit an inline fuel filter to these bikes. It often causes more problems than it solves, due to the fact the fuel tank sits very low, so there is not enough gravitational force to feed the fuel to the carb at full revs with a filter added. Also there is a filter in the petcock on the carb already. I have a Facebook page dedicated to these bikes (Honda C100), if you’re interested. Search 'Honda Cub Monty'. 👍🏻

Sorry I missed this question. I might have pics of the kick starter install but it didn't go well. I bought a new-old-stock kick starter from a year newer model and it didn't fit.
