In this video I show you how I replace the front motor mount (engine mount) on a 2004 2.4L Honda Accord with a four cylinder engine. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2004 Honda Accord EX sedan with automatic transmission. 2003-2007 Accords with four cylinder engines should be similar.

That is a very good video. I had to use an impact wrench and 17 mm deep sockets to get the brace bolts loose. On the passenger side this required pulling off the cooling hose. Had to replace some coolant but it was no big deal. Your video definitely gave me the courage to do it myself and saved me a bunch of money. I agree that using the Honda parts is a good idea. My old mount was leaking oil around the mid-section. Replacing that bolt is a good idea. The corrosion on the old one was obvious. This repair is not technically hard but it does require tools beyond the typical home socket set. By the time I was done I had used 6 sided wobbly sockets, 6 sided deep sockets, 6 sided normal sockets, long extenders, a long socket driver similar to the one in the video, a short socket driver, a torque wrench, various adapters to go back and forth from 3/8 to 1/2., an impact wrench, a drop light, jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, a bucket to catch coolant, several rags, and even my circular saw to cut a piece of 2 x 4 to a reasonable length. Thank goodness for Harbor Freight where I can afford to buy tools at a reasonable price for this activity and others. Also, make sure your jack is stable. Mine would slowly relax. I bought a new jack before I did this repair. You don't want the motor gradually going down while you have the motor mount removed. I would recommend doing this repair with 6 sided sockets only, especially the 58 foot-lb brace bolts. Thanks again Big Dog for making this great and helpful video. The vibration in my car is greatly reduced.

Not sure which bolt you are referring to, but in most cases either the engine needs to be adjusted slightly with the jack to get bolts to align to engine mount (easier if all bolts on mount are finger tight only), or it is a poorly manufactured part (aftermarket parts do this alot).

@@BigDog50001 hello sir, my 2004 honda accord 2.4L the fans comes on with "key on engine off". I know this is not correct. What can i check or test to fix it. Thank you
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 5 жыл бұрын
The 2003-2004 2.4L Accord fans are controlled (through 2 relays) by either the engine computer (based on engine temp or A/C on request) or the cooling fan switch (switch closes and turns on fans through relay at approx 200 degrees). I would look towards a fan switch that is stuck closed (fan switch is located on bottom of radiator) or an ECT1 (Engine Coolant Temp) sensor that is reporting the wrong temp to the engine computer (can see this on scan data). '05 and later Accords have a second ECT in place of the fan switch and the computer is in full control of the fans on those systems. The fans can only run on one speed (high speed) on 2003-2007 Accord 2.4L engines. V6 model Accords added a 3rd relay and also have a second ECT. The engine computer is in full control on those systems too. They have the ability to run the fans at low and high speed (in a series or parallel configuration). I have a video coming out on troubleshooting that type of system.
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 5 жыл бұрын
I should add, a quick test that can be done is turn key on engine off (provided the fans still come on like you described) and simply unplug the Fan Switch at bottom of radiator. If fans turn off then a bad Fan Switch is most likely the issue.

Hey Big Dog. Love your videos! Yours are by far the best for DIY! I did my front motor mount on my 2009 EXL Sedan A/T. I supported the engine with a 2X4 on the oil pan. I am about to do the rear engine mount and the lower transmission mount. When doing those mounts Ill have the front end on jack stands so I can remove the drivers side wheel to access the lower transmission mount, can I support the engine by the transmission, or is the a better spot to support for doing the rear engine mount? I also saw in one of your videos to loosen the front engine mount to Help lifting for the transmission mounts. I think that was for V6 manual not sure. Does that apply here? If so can I do both mounts at the same time? Meaning if they were both out of the car at the same time with the car supported by the transmission would this be ok? Any tips or advice? Thanks for what you do!
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 3 жыл бұрын
Rear mounts can be a little trickier, sometimes you have to loosen subframe and sometimes other mounts have to be loosened too. Supporting under transmission is necessary for certain models under certain situations. Other times a brace is necessary on the top of the engine for support. Depending on the mount design, I would probably only do one at a time to be safe. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, factory is always better than aftermarket for non-performance parts but all 6 of these are $70 for aftermarket and around $700 at the dealership or online for genuine Honda. For an old car, it makes no sense to spend so much to get another decade out of them when the aftermarket ones might only last half as long. I'd rather just do the job again twice as often at $70 vs $700. That's ten times the amount!

What size of drive ratchet did you use for the job? Is it 1/2 inch drive or 3/8 inch drive? I need to buy 10 mm, 14 mm and 17 mm sockets but those are available in 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch drive, so not sure which ones would be helpful?
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 8 жыл бұрын
I actually used all three on this job, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch ratchets and sockets. I used the 1/2 inch for strength to break the larger bolts/nuts loose and, once loose, I used a 3/8 inch for removing/installing because it is easier to use in the tight spaces involved on this job (the 3/8 inch set is quite a bit smaller). I also used a 1/4 inch ratchet/socket combo for the small 10mm bolts. I would suggest getting a metric set with all 3 if you are going to do any amount of work on your vehicle. If you are not able to do that, I would probably start with a 1/2 inch set for now to do this job. Although not perfect, doing that would allow you to use it on the small fasteners and still have the strength to remove the large ones with only one set. Just remember, the 1/2 inch is really big for smaller fasteners (like the 10mm bolts in this video) and you can easily put too much torque on them (and break the fasteners). I can't stress this enough, don't overtighten fasteners!

If I remember correctly, that generation Accord should have 3 engine mounts (front, side and rear) and 3 transmission mounts (lower front, lower rear and upper). They all work together to hold engine/transmission assembly in place.

Would this also work on accords from 2008-2012?
@BigDog50001

The 2008-2012 Accords (K24 engine) have less space, so in order to make room the radiator fan and condenser fan assemblies need to be removed.

About to embark on this project on my 07. Big dog, do you have a go-to place you order parts from?
@BigDog50001
@BigDog50001 7 жыл бұрын
No, I just usually get parts from all over the place, local dealer, internet etc. I do usually stick with Honda factory parts for engine mounts and suspension parts though. Sometimes the tolerances on the aftermarket parts are not exact and can make installation more difficult.

Just finished my granddaughter's 07. Watch the bolt on the coolant reservoir. Mine was frozen and the nut began to spin in the plastic. Ended up tearing it out and placing a new bolt and nut with a LG washer on the back. Also had to loosen the 2 trans mounts to get clearance when sliding in the new mount.

My assumption with mine that it must be the motor mount is when I come to complete stops it vibrates a lot but when I have the A/C cranked up it shakes way too much. Do you think that could possibly be the problem? 2007 Accord 2.4.

It could be a bad engine mount like the one in this video, but it could also be a problem with the engine mount control solenoid which supplies vacuum to the mount at idle. And like any system that is connected together, there could also be a problem with the wiring or vacuum lines that go to those components.

The other mounts should always be checked and, if bad, replaced but they don't automatically need to be replaced just because one mount is bad (some mounts do more work than others to support the engine). Many times just replacing the bad front mount on these Accords is all that is necessary.
