Honda accord vibration during acceleration

My 2010 Honda accord 2.2 dtec diesel GT starts a little vibration at 70mph. I was gonna change wheel bearing but now thanks to ur video ill get a new drive shaft . Ive been living with the issue as here in dublin Ireland the speed limit around me is 100 kmph = 62 mph so it never happens unless I head out of dublin on motorways. Inner cv joints usually goes because of motor mounts having to much give and putting too much of an angle on the inner cv joint. Check your motor mounts if you have this problem.

Additionally in some cases the angle can be so severe that it causes the the half shaft to break apart. Ask me how I know.

@@brogren802 Actually thinking back this happened twice to me. The first time was my wife's Hyundai Excel. Fortunate for me both times the axle snapped right in front of my house.

@@gfriedman99 Lucky you. My experience was not far from home but my kids weren't driving age and trying to teach my daughter to steer and keep tension on the chain was fun to say the least. She kept locking up the brakes on the short tow home. I still have pictures of the snapped half shaft and of course it's right at the damper as usual. Damn it makes me feel old.

@@brogren802 Yes, I seem to recall the Honda snapped near the damper. The Hyundai was very close to the hub end if I remember. Both times at very low speed too.

En mi caso, con cambiar ambas juntas homocineticas del lado de la caja de cambios, se solucionó el problema de las vibraciones al acelerar, al desmontarlas se notaban desgastes en el final de las pistas de la copa por donde circulan los rodamientos de la triceta. El rodamiento del eje tenía holgura y también lo reemplace, por un rodamiento original Honda y para mí sorpresa, este antes de montarlo ya poseía cierta holgura y es porque su diseño es así, me lo podía haber ahorrado. El recambio de las juntas homocineticas lo he comprado en la página oficial de febest, tienen muy buena apariencia y el envío fue muy rápido. Es un problema difícil de diagnosticar si no desmontas y limpias las trasmisión por completo.

Interesting video. My 04 Accord shakes between 60-70mph. Below or even 1 mile above is fine. Been like it for a while so about time that issue gets sorted!

So are you saying it is the Driver side axle that fixed it? I replaced my passenger side Axle and seal 8 days ago. Fixed a lot of movement noise etc. It was shot! Then it started leaking out the driver side axle, like crazy, which is only 5 years old but that mechanic back then, did not replace the seal. It only started leaking like crazy after we replaced the other axle seal. The car still has some wobble when I pick up speed / accelerate past 45 mph. Just bought Driver side Axle and seal yesterday. Will put it in in 2 days! P.s. my axles are only $165.00 each. Seals are less than $10.00 each. It's a 95 Civic Del Sol. So parts are super cheap for it! Always have been.

I haven't experienced that concen on my civic but that doesn't mean it can't happen. I hope all goes well with replacing the seal and axel. My driver side axel was the main culprit in my case. The bearing housing was warned and created a dip which caused play.

My 06 accord has same problem , it was hit on driver side sidewalk at 30mph. Few thousand miles after body shop repair car has issue with vibration. Higher the speed it gets worse. Let go of the throttle and turn left and right it wouldn’t vibrate only if I am on the throttle.

Is the driver side longer then the passenger side? And would they be opposites for right hand drive cars?

I got a 2009 accord v6 and the check engine light comes on when In 1st-2nd gear and when slowing down to a stop every now and then. This happens once every 2 days or so and I don’t know what the issue is I’ve had it looked at and the inspection comes out good they can’t find anything. Would you have any idea what it could be?

Same thing happening. Thought it was the tires , nope , balanced them still vibrating and the wheel shakes at 100-120 km/hr , changed breaks , rotors. Still there , changed tires and balanced them. With 13 alignments 😂 they told me axles both sides. Changed them. I am at a loss. Besides the left cv shaft and the right cv shaft. Is there another shaft that should be changed also a intermittent shaft ? 😂 i never hade so many problems. Just like you ive spent like $1000 on just replacing stuff. And everybody just doesnt no 😂

In my personal experience a couple things are true. One is I've never seen an intermediate shaft cause this problem. Second is the left side axle you can put almost any axle you want in there and it will help solve the problem. Most of the time though the problem is with the right side axle in a new genuine part is required to fix that.

When you wrote left side, did you mean driver's side? I ask because I have a terrible vibration when accelerating from a stop on the driver's side; can actually feel it sometimes under my feet. I replaced the driver's side cv axle with one from autozone but did not go away.

@@dgray3484 I meant left/driver's side. The right side is the one that is more sensitive to wear and causes vibration more. If you have not replaced the right side you should get a new one from Honda.

@@mikeschiavoni5973 I replaced both cv axles plus timing chain tensioner and engine mounts and still did not solve issue. I ended up selling the car for cheap to a mechanic. Best of luck with your issue.

I’ve replaced my driver side axle due to visible damage however my passenger looks fine along with intermediate shaft Wheel bearing have no play etc Starting to things it’s my transmission? Any recommendations

At first I felt it on the passenger side the most and looked at the suspension items. Tie rods and swaybar links. I replaced the passenger side axle and still I could feel the vibration. Next day I checked the intermediate shaft and driver axle. The vibration went away. When opening the axle I didn't see any issues with any of the items buy I know they where never replaced. The bearings where good on the intermediate shaft also. I keep looking into it and I saw a video of a tech opening up the boot and seeing damage on the cage housing for the driver axle.

Hey I too have a 2010 Honda Accord EXL V6 with the same issues with the steering wheel shaking at high speeds, the axles your speaking of are they the cv axles? I’ve already replaced my control arm, lower ball joints and sway bars on both sides and got my wheel balanced and still not fixed. Hopefully it’s the axles that fixes the issue for myself.

Did you know the 2010 had a recall for the intermediate shaft bearing? I might be wrong but it was related to some bearing on the axle

@@markdinse872 I didn't see a recall open for the Vin for a intermediate shaft on the Vin. Prior to touching the car I had my dad take it to honda to pay for a diagnosis and they were not sure what could be causing the issue at the time and that's when my dad wanted to replace the passager axel with Oem honda part and the intermediate shaft was also honda oem. The concern was still there so that's when we went after the driver side axel and the concen was corrected.

Unfortunately we didn't record it at the time. I wish I did to include it with the video. But it was scary. The inner housing for the axels wear out because of the bearings.

My 2012 Accord 4 cyl steering wheel starts shaking/vibrating around 55 mph. I replaced the rear engine mount and shaking decreased a bit. Checked every visible leaks or wear on the suspension and there's none. Haven't tried replacing the cv axles yet.

Thank you for letting me know. Unfortunately my dad's engine mounts weren't the issue but it's true that can also cause the vibration because of torque against the mount. Thank you.

@@juanyoi87 Hey man I was hoping you could help me out and let me know if what my car is doing is similar to your dads car. My car shakes hard when accelerating around 20-40mph, besides that it's smooth. When it shakes hard it's hard to push the gas until you let go and try again, that usually solves the issue. Does that sound similar to what was happening to your car?

I forgot to record that part. But it was three bolts. Use extension with a swivel. If your driver axel has never come off it will be really hard to get them separated. I cracked mine and had to get a new one.

@@reibercollado8971 nope mechanics said the intermediate shaft was in great condition. After 3 stimulus checks spent in trying to fix it I'm sad to say I left the honda family I traded it in for a new 21 ford explorer and got my money back they offered me 5gs for it so Hondas do hold their value, but now I got my truck and ima tell you people talk bad about ford but they did an amazing job with the explorer so far so good i love this truck. 😀

Originally I felt it on the passenger side reason why we ended up replacing the passenger side with a Honda part. But once we replaced both intermediate shaft and passenger side axel we still felt it. We found a video of a guy removing the axel on the driver side and he niced wear in the bearing housing. So we ended up replacing the driver side axel and the vibration was gone. Then engine and trans mounts were in good condition so we didn't replace them.

As a suspension technician I would first would ask customer to duplicate the concern so I can note the issue when it happens and check alignment prior to repair or suggestions of any replacement. While in the air I would check and frame damage or bushing damage.

Passenger side axle broke on my 2014 Honda accord Exl and had it replaced by a friend and when I got it back there was a new vibration on acceleration. A week later the driver side axel broke as well. There’s a recall on them but I didn’t have time to deal with the dealership stealership people so I fixed it in a parking lot this week. But the vibration is there still and seems to be getting worse. Was hoping it was something simple like wheel bearings but idk maybe it’s the transmission

The passenger side needed to be replaced because the boot ripped and my dad wanted it replaced. When inspecting the intermediate shift I noticed a very small amount of play. It seemed that was within specs but we replaced it still. When we took off the driver side I thought if the axle didn't fix it it could be the bearings in side the transmission because everything else was in good or new condition. Once the driver side axel was replaced it corrected the vibration condition. When we took the axel apart we noticed the bearing housing and shift had some wear on the outer joint to the wheel hub.

If your transmission is shifting hard I would say it will be a transmission concern. But if it's on acceleration start with driver axel.

Another issue now I’m having with this vehicle , is when I accelerate than let it go for a bit than accelerate quick again . I hear this rattling noise ,It’s quick than goes away quick . Piston rings my guy!!! It’s normal after wear on the car. My best suggestions r to use sea foam spray in the throttle body after the maf sensor. I did that for some whole other reason and it has seemed too cleaned my rings and tbh I haven’t heard them since. But please if u use, read directions correctly or have someone u trust do it

That rattling comes from the transmission, a quick fix is to replace the transmission fluid. It happened to my Honda Accord ex 2004 2.4 with 116 000 miles now it has more power no more noise and it cost me $45. Good luck.

That's what my dad ended up doing at first. Struts and links and the shaking still there. Engine mount and trans mount was fine no cracks or brakes. I hope this video helps.

I have a 2010 accord 4 cylinder and my car will start rattling only when I hold it at 1500 rpm under-load (when I’m park and reved up to 1500 rpm no rattle) although smooths out higher rpms and speeds anyone got any ideas because I’ve been search high and low for the answer thinking everything from tie rods to transmission, thinking about trying the axles now if anyone had and ideas or knows from personal experience please let me know

Did you find anything to resolve this problem? It sounds exactly like my situation. Acceleration under small load around 25 or 30 mph, moderate vibration, and that's it. Not sure if it's even worth worrying about since it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

1999 Honda accords you want to check your engine mounts. They didn't have the same issues with the axels unless the boot broke open allowing dirt to get in.

The last item we replaced was the driver side cv axle. That corrected the problem. In the video I said the passenger side by accident. The car is running fine ever since.
