After watching this, ive been dreading the day of rebuilding my transmission. my local shops dont repair manual's transmission's anymore which is odd to me. Watching this has given me the confidence to go ahead and give it a shot. Going to buy a used transmission and rebuild it, thank you. Love how methodical you are. Keep it up man .

I don’t recommend to lube the outer edge of the oil seals, if you can push it in that easily with lube there’s a chance that seal is moving once in service.
@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
You are much more likely to damage the seal pushing it in completely dry, I always lubed the edge of the seal and the hole it goes into with whatever oil I had nearby and never had one move or leak. They sort of stick in place once they have been in for a while like how coolant hoses get stuck. Besides, the seal is not under pressure or subject to any significant force during operation.

I just dropped in a new mfactory lsd in my 06 rsx and im trying to close the trans but I cant get the c clip to close over the bearing. I tried dropping it snd prying it but nothing seems to work. I opened and close the case several time and cant see anything wrong. The input shaft spins freely and it goes into every gear, only problem is the c clip wont go into the bearing. There like 1/8 inch for it to go in. Any help would be great!

This is on point!! And I agree, you should do a rundown/walkthrough on the shimming and clearances. I’m in the middle of this exact build including adding an LSD. The shims and/or clearances are the only things I’m uncertain on how to calculate. This video is already a HUGE help having toque specs rolled in.

Same, I'm going to be adding an LSD to my 04 RSX-S trans with the TSX 5th gear and 9th gen Civic Si 6th gear and I'm still trying to figure out the clearances before I begin. To be honest, when I had my D17 trans apart back in 2021, I didn't learn that there were different thickness shims until months later. Fortunately it's still quiet and shifting as good as new after 15K hard miles, so I guess I got it close enough LOL

Hey, this was phenomenal, but are you sure the various hardware that you lubricated (counter shaft bolt, and diff bolts) where wet torque specs? Lubrication dramatically effects achieved torque, and you can easily over torque if using a dry torque spec with lubrication. Also, when torturing you should stop after the first click, resist the urge to double, or triple click.

Thanks for the vid man and thanks for keeping it real as well. So many edit things to make it seem perfect but reality is things doesn’t go perfectly and you show what to basically do and look for 👍👍. One thing that worked for me fabulously is when mating the cases , hit the area where the bearings go with some heat. A few seconds with Map or even propane Little does a long way And normally drops right on with barely much persuasion needed with mallet. Also when checking thrust clearance , works great to drop the bearing out too! 👍👍

Great video and instructions. How come you cannot compressed the counter shaft gears all at once so you don't have to waste time doing one by one? With all that work and the case is open, should have put in a LSD as it looks like an open diff?
@jonathanjovenal
@jonathanjovenal 2 жыл бұрын
Glad this video was helpful bro! Whenever pressing any components on, you should preferably press them on one by one in case one of the components gets snagged. Technically speaking, yes it is possible to press them in all at once, but to ensure no damage occurs to any of the components, I press them in one by one. The countershaft gears are splined so if you were to try to press them all in at one time, the following gear might not align with the splines on the shaft and can get damaged during pressing. As for the LSD, this transmission was for a customer’s vehicle and he did not select to have an LSD installed, just a simple refresh since the transmission was out for a clutch replacement.

@jonathanjovenal

Only use genuine Honda seals. If you replaced the seal with a genuine Honda part and are 100% sure it was installed correctly, you could possibly have worn differential bearings or worn axle shaft journals internal of the differential that could be causing the axle to wobble excessively and leak.
