I've watched this a few times because it really cheers me up. Very good photography ( videography?? no words look right) . Narration is as ever top notch with the right light tone. I have never had a passport or been out of the UK or even to Northumberland.

Whatever you call the visuals doesn't really matter I'm just really glad you enjoy them (and it's the main reason for the channel TBH). At the moment you won't need a visa to visit Northumberland but if you ever get the urge, let me know, Have a good week, cheers, Phil.

Good morning Dr. Doolittle, as always thanks for stopping by and glad you enjoyed this instalment. Well, from a weather perspective it 'should' have been much warmer and back in July it was an inferno across Europe so on balance, I think cold weather which at least you can do something about, is probably better. Good morning Guzziman, really good to hear from you and many thanks for your kind comments. I did have a lot of fun that day! Luckily it wasn't too windy on that ride and either way the ADV is super stable in the wind - so along with the usual scooter 'ease of use' thing I had zero distractions including virtually no traffic so it was just perfect! Glad you enjoyed it, all the best, cheers, Phil.

I've been looking forward to this. Stunning scenery. Some of these roads look a bit slippery. Glad the 350 did well. A suprise now. I have deided to sell the Duke 390 and Aerox 155 and am replacing it with , not a CRF300L, like I suggested, but one of these ADV350 scooters. It's very wet in the rainy season in Chiang Rai, and I ride daily. The Aerox is too light and unstable and physically too small for my 1.85 cm/190 kg frame. An ADV350 will fit me well and supplement my SCR950 nicely. I would never use a Garmin. Maps for me. I think I can see Clint Eastwood on the mountain. Nick
@80eightReviews
@80eightReviews Ай бұрын
Hey Nick, how are you doing? And yes, the ADV was brilliant in those conditions - more than enough to make it fun but with no drama, which in those changing conditions is exactly what I needed. And wow! That is a surprise! Funnily enough though I came to similar conclusion when I was riding the ADV through the wind and rain in the Netherlands on this trip - that the same journey on the CRF would have been quite awful. The ADV was totally stable while the CRF would have been blowing about like a leaf in the wind. So yeah, that's a good decision for a machine that will be used daily and it will be a nice change when you swap over to your SCR. Let me know what you think when it arrives - I'd be interested in your thoughts. As for the Garmin, I think I'm in the category of 10% on and 90% off to be honest - I felt really uneasy not having a sense where I was when relying on the Garmin alone. Doing the research on a real map means you always have a sense of direction and geography. Plus technology can fail! Clint - I'll rewind and take a look. Actually, carving his face into the rock like Mt Rushmore could be quite good? All the best, cheers, Phil.

@@80eightReviews Probably not next year, unfortunately. It's been so long since I've been on a road bike, I've a lot of gear to get and catching up to do. Basic plan is to get the bike and do local rides, day/weekend trips and maybe a bit longer as well as some sort of refresher course. I'll also be camping fairly often, so some sorting & refining to do with that kit & the loading. It's also a while since I've driven anything abroad so i thought I'd maybe drop onto a guided tour - maybe D-Day Beaches or similar - to get back up to speed on that side too. And somewhere in all that I'll drop in the North Coast 500 which a mate and I first did on our CB175s over 50 years ago, before anyone even thought of calling it the NC500! :-)

I’ve been snowboarding a few times round there , flying into Geneva . Something I do hope to do again . My discharge paper work is ready, I just need a rubber stamp from plastics team and also the mental health team as they were Initially concerned about me . Just the isolation of being tethered to the bed via tubes , which added further discomfort this time and in hospital again for over two weeks then seeing my mangled leg become more and more traumatised with each surgery ….. it’s been a hard slog I’ll be going home today , or at the latest tomorrow. Gonna get a George’s fish and chips, Nando’s or a Pizza Hut . And definitely that bottle of haig whiskey . So bored of the hospital food now and I’ve not had a drink since the fateful day of sep 1st. Hey James, well, I'm hoping that by now you are at home at being looked after and in a much better place for healing and wellbeing. And you know what, you never know, snowboarding again might not be out of the question. You might have to do it a little differently, just as I have to do with bikes but that's OK. Yeah, I know, it's been a hard slog. So get home and order the Fish 'n' Chips, Nando's and a Pizza from Uber Eats and eat them consecutively at two hour intervals! You need the protein! Plus the whisky will manage the pain much better than horrible opioids in addition to tasting nicer. My only tip would be not to mix whisky with crutches :-) Hello to Dexter, take it easy and glad you made it to the end of the video, cheers, Phil.

That floating thing is a floating Jacuzzi or a hot tub on the water. Thank you for your video. Your thoughts and tips on the ADV 350 has been wonderful. Your video is helping me a lot in making my decision, i.e. I have been really wondering what scooters I should get for touring (X-ADV 750 (but too heavy and less luggage space under seat) vs. Yamaha T-Max (but substantially expensive and my legs seem too short), v.s. ADV 350 (perfectly sized, lots of storage spaces but I was concerned about cruising top speed on motorways). .Thank you for the video.

Good evening & many thanks for stopping by - it's very good to know you enjoyed the video(s) and that they may have been useful in some way. On the decision as to "what to get", you mention the X-ADV and funnily enough my intention was to use the 350 for a few years then move to the X-ADV but I've firmly decided it's more than enough scooter for doing whatever type of riding I want to do and the economy / storage just can't be beat. With the X-ADV at nearly double the price, there's no contest and to be honest the 350 doesn't really feel like a compromise in any way. Two-up touring would be better on the X-ADV I guess but if you're solo, then the 350 can cope with anything. All the best, let me know what you decide to do, cheers, Phil.

Loved that Phil. Grimsel very different from July when we did it. Particularly like your editing and the way everything segues. Also love the colours, were filters used? Morning Gareth, great to hear from you - hope all is well with you. Ha ha yes, I can imagine it did look very different! I could have done with a bit of July warmth I have to say - still, it was so spectacular and I've never seen it like that before so it was well worth it. Thanks for your comments on the editing - much appreciated - as for your question, the only lens filter I was using is a variable Neutral Density filter - which basically allows me to reduce the light coming into the camera and also cuts out some of the glare from high contrast situations. The video is shot in something called 'log' which is a very flat / almost monochrome colour out of the camera which then allows me to bring the colours up to how I like them during editing. I try and go for realistic colours but sometimes do something a little more stylised if it works. As for the ADV - yeah, it's more than up to the job. The same trip on my Guzzi or CRF would have been really grim! Hope that helps and I've got a 2nd hand balaclava if you're interested? Have a good weekend, cheers, Phil.

Hi, Phil. Many thanks for taking the time to create, edit and upload another wonderful travel video. Could I ask you a question? I was just wondering why you favoured the ADV 350, rather than the Forza 350, when you bought your scooter.? Was there any particular qualities that won you over, or was it sheer personal preference? @80eightReviews
@80eightReviews Ай бұрын
Good morning Neil, how are you doing & great to hear from you again. Glad you enjoyed the video! As for your question on the ADV or the Forza. Despite not riding either before buying the ADV (I sorta couldn't at the time and needed to take things very slowly post accident so I didn't think a test would tell me anything) - the tangible reason was the much more bike-like front end - the forks and the strengthened yokes which I figured would give a more bike-like experience. Secondly, the higher (tubular) bars meant more leverage and I could bolt my GoPro on the bars (the Forza bars are encased in plastic). Finally the Forza looked a bit 'city scoot' to my eyes and I preferred the aesthetic of the ADV despite being very aware it was far from an Adventure bike! Hope that makes sense Neil and yes, I'm keeping very well thanks! Hope the is same with you and have a great weekend, cheers, Phil.

Good morning BigD - great to hear from you and yes, the ADV 350 is certainly tourable - it was brilliant! As for heated grips - I used to buy them for all my bikes and realised I was shelling out £60 a set each time and although I'd say Oxford Hotgrips are very good, they still don't give you that 'full' hand warmth. Anyway, so a few years back I invested in a pair of RST heated Gloves and they are BRILLIANT! So it doesn't which bike I'm riding, I'm always comfortable and it's those I was using on this trip. They are battery powered and 95% of the time I run them on the lowest setting which gets me around 6 hours of continuous use. Way better than heated grips and you don't have to do that 'death grip' like you sometimes do with heated grips. All the best, cheers, Phil.

You make a good remark about the sat nav and the turning it off to rely on your own navigation. I have this overall frustration with tech being in your face, nothing like reading maps and route planning. I love tech but prefer it to ubiquitous but not detracting from the thing you’re using, like a traditional watch that uses solar to power it or lean sensitive abs, doesn’t interfere with the raw experience.
@80eightReviews
@80eightReviews Ай бұрын
Good morning Gurman01, thanks for stopping by and yes, Sat Nav's....I think the other thing about them (or at least how I was using it) is that when 'relying' on it for any extended period of time I had no real idea where I was in terms of geography which unsettled me a little. I can well understand how folk drive off bridges when the Sat Nav takes them the wrong way - it creates a sort of blind dependency. That could just be me though! But yes, you're right about the tech not being distracting - spot on. Similarly I don't want to be flicking through menus before a ride in order to 'set' my bike up. Still, I'm old now I guess... All the best, have a good day, cheers, Phil.

Maps; When I was just a boy, my dad took me on many weekend canoe / camping trips in Vermont, New Hampshire & Massachusetts. (This was way before seat belts were standard equipment on US automobiles). I sat in the front seat next to dad, and kept a paper map on my lap. My job was to watch the road signs, and constantly know where we were, what the next town was, and when we would be making a turn onto a different route number. I'm pretty sure my dad knew our route, but his training has stayed with me all these decades later. Other than my portable telephone, new technology doesn't interest me much at all. Once I had to make a business trip, and my daughter's boyfriend loaned me his GPS. Halfway to my destination, it told me to take an exit ramp off of the hiway, dumped me into a city, then guided me back to the hiway. That was about 15 years ago. I hope they've gotten better since then. PS, Dad bought me a 175cc BSA Bantam when I was 12 years old. I've been riding ever since!

A very good evening to you Mr.SavageBolt and I hope all is well with you. Your dad was a great guy! A Bantam at 12 years old - brilliant. And to be honest, I had a similar 'job' when I was kid and there's something about 'knowing your geography' and keeping it in your head which I don't want to lose by using the GPS all the time. And I can well believe your story! We have a one-way street nearby and you can guess what happens there all the time...Luckily it's quiet though. Technology has its place but personally I want as little as possible on my bikes. I wouldn't be happy scrolling through a load of menu's to set my bike up before a ride! Maybe it's an age thing.... All the best, cheers, Phil.

@@80eightReviews you do fantastic work here on yt. Greatly appreciated! The British country lanes and the Swiss passes are calling me. I'm trying to get a buddy or my kid to travel with me. Sad that now I'm old, and have time & resources, my young family members are too busy, and my old family members are not healthy. ❤ from 🇺🇸

Did you pack all your stuff under the seat ?

Hey Iain, how are you doing? All my camera stuff (including a tripod), locks / chains etc, was under the seat with a bag of clothes in the top box. If I hadn't taken any camera stuff everything I needed would have fitted under the seat easily though. It's brilliant! Hope that helps, cheers, Phil.

Morning Rob, good to hear from you. The jeans are made by RST and really good actually - good quality, a reasonable price and no knee sliders! All the best, cheers, Phil.

I am confused by your speedo in corner my x max250 and sh300 would easily cruise at 70 yet 60 seems to be in the red

Hello again Mr. Volt, the speedo overlay is relative to the top speed of that actual ride so it goes 'into the red' when I reach the highest speed for that particular journey - which in this case is around 60MPH. On motorways I was typically cruising at a (GPS) 75MPH which on the ADV speedo is around 80-82MPH and it did it easily. Hope that helps, cheers, Phil.
