I had their crash bars on my Triumph Explorer, and currently have their skid plate on my AT. I'm a big fan of Altrider. I told 'em I was avoiding dropping the Africa Twin until they got their crashbars on the market!

Just picked up a new AT 2 weeks ago. I'm not planning on doing any serious off-roading, but am looking forward to taking some old country dirt and/or gravel roads now, that I couldn't take before on my Harley. I have a long list of mods I want to do and the Altrider bars are just about at the top of the list. Great vid, as are all your vids I've seen. I'll be watching this vid a few more times and use it as my instruction manual. Not sure if I'll do the center stand before or after the bars, but I see that it sure would come in handy during this install. Just received the Cobra auxiliary power outlet today, and will be looking at your install vid on that before I add it to the bike this weekend. It seems between work and all the rain we've been getting here in Ohio, I've got little time to ride, but a lot of time to mod the bike. Be safe, and again, thanks for the great vids.

Wish I could like your video twice. Installed these on my 2017 and on my 2019...the instructions that come with them are pretty useless, super dark photos where you barely see anything. Thanks again for the step by step video!

Those brackets , attached to the frame in front of the engine seem weak IMHO , i would prefer the system designed by Outback Motortek for this particular area . However the Outback Motortek are weak in the part around the bike cowling , AtlRider are better designed in this location . Nothing perfect i guess !

The main purpose is preventing damage to the engine. You can ride back home with a bent or broken crashbar, but not so much with an open engine case :) They do feel pretty sturdy to me, if they get damaged to the point of no repair, the bike is likely to be in pretty bad condition as well.

Basically if you have a Africa Twin shop manual you can look at the torque specs for the same size bolt and use that. Your welcome

Hey Woodzman, I enjoy your reviews and how-to's very much. I want your opinion on something - I have ordered a full set of AltRider crash bars, but my budget is wrecked. Will it be OK for me to leave the stock skid plate on the bike, to be upgraded later, or do I need to get my wife an AltRider skid plate for Christmas?

Yeah Buddy, the lowers came in this morning & install is complete. Only one problem, on the left side (kickstand side) the holes wouldn't line up, I loosened up everything even the front mount & it still wouldn't line up. I ended up using a Dermal to open up one of the holes on the bottom. Tightened everything back up & I'm a happy camper. Thanks again for your video. Followed it step by step.

How did you check for exhaust leaks? Why didn't you "re-anneal" per instructions? Want to do what you did, don't have a torch and don't want to buy new gaskets...

+BikeLife All I did was as I always do, I tighten them down and feel for exhaust leaks before it gets hot. Also I know the sound of it and I can hear if there is a leak. I don't buy new gaskets

You feel around the headers/exhaust port connection for air/gas? And what does idle sound like/how is it different with exhaust leak? THANK YOU!

+BikeLife Yes but you only have a couple seconds until it gets extremely hot so be careful. But if you know the sound and it's leaking you can tell the difference. I have just work on Motorcycles for 40 years so I know what to listen for.

Honestly, BikeLife, I have a bad habbit….I'm a smoker. Yeah, not a good thing in general, but I'll tell you, a burning cig gives off a very easy to see blue/gray plume of smoke that when put up by the headers, will give you a real good visual cue if you have a leak. Might be worth buying a pack of smokes just for the occasion. Be safe.

Thank you very much for the video! I'm trying to install the crash bars on my AT, but that 14mm nut on the front - the one you said you loosened off camera... How? I can't seem to be able to do it - and the wrench is beginning to warp the nut sides...

+Kenneth Slava Adamson make sure it's a 6 sided 14mm wrench because it's pretty tight. And turn the nut and not the bolt.

honestly I would not add brackets like these. Tip over, that's OK but bigger crash and you catch something solid while sliding what can do more harm then good.

+Wild One Well its proven that crash bars do help protect the bike in a crash, mainly from breaking the engine cases
