I've been obsessed with this bike since it came out. Bit the bullet last week and bought one. So far there are a few things I'm not crazy about. That being said. Out of almost 20 bikes I've owned. This is my favorite. I love this motorcycle!

I am glad you got one, it is a great bike, I did a spoof on the 5 things I hate about this bike, got a lot of interesting comments, but I basically mention the 5 things the Tiger XCX acmes with and here in our state they are priced very close together. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you love your bike as much as we do. Thanks again my friend and have a blessed weekend. Dale

I bought the 2017 AT dct in 2019. sat at the dealer for 2 yrs+, nobody wanted her. I put the HEED crash bars on and the Honda paniers with, after the Dunlop's wore down Anekee Wild rubbers. She's my 11th bike and I couldn't agree with you more. Its 2021 now and have only seen 1 AT on the road in the Midwest, Chicago subs. The only thing is you have to be at least 5'-9" just saying. What a truly amazing, all around practical ADV bike this is! Just subbed and have blessed rides peeps!

I know that I have posted really late here. I picked up a 2018 DCT in 2018. Your video helped validating the impression I had when I rode the bike. 92k kms later I have added a ton of stuff to the bike overtime that I needed which includes the tubeless wire spoke rims from the 1100 AT. The bike has been fantastic and is definitely staying with me for the long haul it’s been about 6 years and a few months and there has not been a moment where I felt the need to trade it in. I live in India (Bangalore) where the traffic is congested and chaotic but this is just a brilliant brilliant bike!

The Engine on the Africa Twin has been used by Honda for many years. And that is not bad. I had a Honda Varadero in Dubai back in 2007. It had the same engine. Very reliable great bike and I am so glad Honda decided to use it in the Africa twin. From your video. It just sound the same. Watch some video about the Varadero. It is almost the same.

Very well done. I just sold my 2013 Triumph 800XC and the replacement will be Honda's CRF1000L. The 800 was a great bike but the dealer network continues to get smaller and smaller due to Triumph's guidelines to be a dealer. I Have watched most of your informative AT videos and look forward to more. Keep up the great work.

I like your videos. They give a lot to think about and are un-biased. I live in Northern Alberta. Its not so far from the Alaska highway. I also like Honda for their reliability and availability of dealers and parts. I would love to take much longer trips. I am on call during summers most of the time so it puts a limit on how far I can ride my Goldwing. One day, I hope, I will get that cross-continent trip in.

My wallet is fighting to get out of my pocket right now...the adjust ability and lower seat height and lowered seat would be awesome for my cough cough shorter stature and would provide all the benefit of a bigger bike without the difficulty of the triumph or the BMW. Nice video. I really appreciate the voice-over commentary. Trying to understand someone's comments with helmet buffeting is almost impossible. I do agree that it would be very nice to have cruise control on the African Twin, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. It's a little cold in Vermont (2 degrees F at 11:00) for any test rides, but am really looking forward to comparing the Honda to the 650 Vstrom in the spring. Key issue would be how comfortable the passenger position is. The reviews look good, but my wife's posterior will be the final 'judge'. I'd like to see more review of two-up touring, if they're out there.

Thank you sir, sorry for the delay, I am always running behind. My wife has Scoliosis, so she does not ride with me very much, she cant handle the position of pretty much any bike for very long so I would not be a good one to ask on the passenger seating. I will say this, it is not too bad, and she had a good time, but she didn't go on any longer rides with me do to the limitations. Thanks for watching and have a blessed week my friend.

Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed getting the information. Am more educated now on ATs. Also very nice of you to answer everyone’s questions. Now - unlike our local BMW dealership where we can demo the GS. Honda does not seem to have anywhere to test ride these. My only question is how tall are you ? I found the BMW GS adventure a bit too big. I am 5’ 11”. And I remember back in the day the honda XR 600s sat very tall too.

Here is my two cents, The auto has been out for a while, they put the first one in the nx700 several years ago and everyone is still going along for the most part with no issues, if I had it to do over or if I was looking at a 2018 I would go with the auto tranny, I think it would be a fun bike, but either way, it would be a fun bike the auto would make the rough off road easier to tackle not messing with the clutch. I am 6 foot even, so I think you would stand over the bike just fine since its seat is somewhat adjustable, I left mine in the high position and it is roughly an inch higher than the low position, so the low should work just fine and you may even find the high would work out better if you are doing a lot of transition from sitting to standing. Let me know what you end up doing and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale

Hi there. I had issues with my spokes they tarnished really bad after about 400 miles and I didn't ride it in the bad weather or in salty conditions and always cleaned the bike well after use and blown dried I took it to Honda and was told no problem we will take some pics and put a warranty claim in and good to there word I received two new wheels yes full set and they replaced left hand control gear at the same time I couldn't say enough I had great service I think the spokes had very poor coating on the early ones . Still mulling over going ADV in the first place. My original thinking was to get an AT and pile on some luggage including a tent and sleeping bag and haul out deep into the boonies, just me, my motorbike, and a camera. Now with my CRF250L (my dirt trainer since I had no significant experience riding a motorbike on dirt) I'm thinking to just keep my cheap cruiser for around town and my CRF250L for my adventures. When I want to go for a long haul, I'm already planning on getting a trailer for my AWD car (a Subaru) to get across the state and up to the edge of the backwoods vicinity, and take the CRF250L from there. Other than potential for car theft this seems like a more pleasant yet equally entertaining getaway plan than hauling an AT for hours. Sorry, just thinking out loud ..

Oh no you are good my friend, there is always pros and cons to all the bikes out there, I still have the DRZ for just that, I can haul it on the front of my camper if we are taking a family vacation or what ever and then since I live in the center of the state, I can ride to all four corners in a day trip on the AT with out my legs going numb from the DRZ, and enjoy a lot more of our state and see a lot more. plus it will do just as good on the dirt roads and what not that is does on the back roads. Thanks for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week. Subaru, that is on my list, after I get my truck paid off in the next couple of years, I am gonna buy one of those. Great, comprehensive review. Biggest problem for me with adventure and dual sport kind of bikes is seat height. I'm a short ass so I'm guessing that adjustable seat height would come in handy for me.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 8 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, My buddy Joe who bought the Blue XCX that you see is some of our videos, has the same problem. That is one thing That Triumph has done, they do make a shorter bike, it is the same bike other than it is much short, less ground clearance obviously, but it puts some people in a good size dual sport they can actually touch the ground on. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Honda offers an additional seat that is lower than the stock one, lowers the seat hight almost 2" with out loosing ground clearance. So that might be an option for you as well.

Great video. How does the AT shift compared to ur DRZ? Was wondering if the shift throw is short like most dirtbikes or longer like the BMW? thx
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 8 жыл бұрын
Im not 100% sure i understand if you are talking about he short gears or short shift position, so I will answer both the best I can since I have both bikes. The actual shifter on both bikes, I have replaced with lower shifters so I can wear the adventure boots that looks similar to the dirt bike boots, SIDI Adventure boots, if you are familiar with them is the ones I wear most of thee time when riding, so I put longer shift levers on both bikes. The DRZ is really tight gears more for road and shift is much quicker do to the dirt oriented bike. I have also Geared the DRZ down some by going with a bigger rear sprocket. Helps me for slow rolling tight trails. The Honda has much taller gears in the gear box so it doe much better on the street and highway. I have not done very much trail riding on the AT as of yet, but it feels like it might be a hard fast for technical speeds to me on what little I have done. As Far as how they both shift, actual shifter position up and down even with the boots on, i never feel like my foot is out of whack and or pulling one especially far compared to the other, The Honda is a much smoother shift, less clunky feel to it over the DRZ,. Not sure if I answered your question the way you were asking it or not, Hope this helps and Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I hope you have a blessed week my friend.

Do you get buffeting from the screen . I’ve recently changed my helmet to a Shoei Neotec 2. The I was a little deaf on reaching home with the horrible noise even with earplugs. Love the bike , but must sort this out.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 6 жыл бұрын
They make a deal to help eliminate buffeting that goes up by the gas tank. I did order one but it didn’t make it before my trip to tenn. So yes under certain head winds it’s no fun. But the mayor out of the time I don’t find it being to big of a problem with my helmet. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Let me know if you do find a good fix that works for you.

I'm a motocrosser currently riding a KLR650 as my dual sport/adventure bike but it's time for something newer. I love getting psycho on the trails and at my local OHV park from time to time on my way home from work and I love doing wheelies and a bit of canyon carving. Is this a good option for my aggressive riding style or is there something else out there that might be suited to a whackado like me?

Im not as skilled as some riders, but I watched several do some pretty awesome stuff with this bike at March Moto Madness this past spring. it is a lot of bike and you will have a lot of fun with it if you decide to get one, I honestly cant picture this bike not being able to go anywhere you have taken the KLR, only difference is if you fall over, the KLR is cheaper on parts, I have had a KLR as well, and this bike is a dream, if you get one, you wont be disappointed Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and Ihope you have a blessed week my friend.

Thanks for the info. I love my 2012 KLR but over the time I've had it I've put a disgusting amount of miles on it and the frame finally cracked last month so it's time for a new toy and I was torn between this and a newer KLR. Price of parts isn't really an issue for me because I'm sponsored by my local shop so the only thing I have to worry about is how the bike performs and from your info it definitely seems like a very viable option. Thanks for the video. I'll be sure to like and sub!

Does this bike have different modes like the ktm? Like sport, standard, rain, off road? I know you said it has torque settings. But the ktm has an off road mode that has abs in the front and not the back. Seems like a great setting.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 5 жыл бұрын
This one has the different setting but the KTM is in a different league all together. The KTM is more of a true offload beast, this is probably a better bike to take the black top to where you want to ride, but the KTM would be better once you get there. Thanks for taking them time to watch and comment and truly sorry for such long delay. I lost some of my notifications. Thanks again and have a blessed week. Dale

Sorry for the delay in answering you, this got put in the possible spam for some reason. I have not officially riden the XCX. My buddy who is in several of the videos has one and he loves it, I am sure he would let me ride it if I wanted, I have not asked him and to be fair he is a short stature guy and he bought the one that is shorter from the factory, so I have never asked him. I do plan on getting with him when the weather allows and we are going to do a head to head video of the tow bikes side by side in various conditions. I will say this, I have studied the bikes enough, that I am sure you would be happier with either one and I would not be afraid to buy either one both are very similar an both have pros and cons depending on what you will be doing the most of, and that is an answer you have to ask yourself, noone can answer it for you, then go with the one with the more pros on what you plan on doing the most of with your next bike. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and again sorry for the delay, it got put in my spam folder for some reason and I cant answer those from my phone, I have to be on a computer to even find them. Thanks again, good luck on your new bike and keep me posted on what you get, Have a blessed week my friend.

Excellent video Im thinking of buying a new bike. Im a new to bikes. Is The AT an Easy bike? Options no The table are super tenere, gs1200, triumph explorer or suzuki vstrom. What do U Think. Thanks. From PORTUGAL
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 7 жыл бұрын
The AT is an easy to read bike, Since you have named so many, my suggestion would be go ride all the ones named if the shops will let you test ride them. Go with the one that will best fit your budget and needs, all the bikes have pros and cons and it would be hard for me to say which one will fit you best not knowing your experience or intended use. The AT is a very good bike for the price point. The flip side, the GS1200 is an awesome bike but twice the money here in the US. so Not sure what you want or need to do with yours, back roads, old highways, some single track and double track this bike does great specially for the money. keep me posted on what you get and have a blessed weekend.

@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 7 жыл бұрын
+Wild One I think it would be a great bike to take there. I have emphasized the fact there are more dealers all over the world than Triumph dealers. But by no means and I saying that the XCX wouldn't be a good choice. It has cruise control and would make the long days of road riding easier. I mentioned in the video the Honda is a better choice for me due to the fact there is more dealers for service. I think the XCX bike is an awesome bike and it was the only bike I was debating when I decided to go ahead and get the AT. Now I do have a friend whom had an issue on his it took a while to get him some parts. He warned me of that. But either way. I know it's a reputable bike and one I would be proud to own. Again this video is basically talking about everything the XCX comes with the AT don't for essentially the same money. If you are debating getting an XCX you might talk with Arizona Desert Dog. He has one and can give you first hand knowledge of the bike. Thanks again and have a blessed week my friend.

I have been riding BMW GS's since 1993. I'm on number 4 now, 2015 GSA. I may be in the minority but I've not had any major problems and have put lots of miles on them. They have never been to the shop for repair and I do all the services. The boxer is easy to service. So my question is how is the major service on the AT? Like valve clearance checks and adjustments? Do you do it yourself? Or pay the dealer? How about removing wheels for tire repair? I like the AT but the main reason I traded my '09 GSA for the 2015 was cruise control but it is a much better bike too. The '09 only had 50,000 miles on it and looked and ran like new. Because I'm planning on retiring in about three years I will not spend that much money on another bike again. The AT price is affordable. But I won't pay a shop $100/hr + to do routine maintenance.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay, I have been out of pocket workmen on another deal. The clearance, I doubt is something I personally can do, but if you are already familiar with it , I am sure you can do it just fine, Tires, I put them on myself, so its easy enough, probably the same as your GS, cruise, yes that would be nice, but I don't have it, I would keep my GS if I had one. This is a fun bike for the budget minded rider who wants to do some road trips, but the GS is the best there is,. Just not in my budget.

@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport 6 жыл бұрын
Most definitely, it is a tall bike from the factory, I am 6' and woulnt mind being a hair taller on this bike. If you find you will be doing a lot of off road, I would recommend you take your bike to a suspension person. I am lucky enough to have one not too far from me, he put in stiffer springs front and rear for me since I carry a lot of junk when I am on my adventures. This is helpful but not always needed. Lots of folks never do dial in the suspension on bikes like this, if you do it will perform better for you. Thanks and have a blessed week. Dale

It does. I have learned just recently that a lot of motorcycle manufacturers are sub contracting other companies to build their bikes in other countries. For example the BMW F 800 GSA is actually made by Rotax (BRP) in Thailand. I work in manufacturing and my experience with this type of subcontracting is that quality usually suffers. It's nice to know that Honda is keeping the build quality under their control.

Really enjoyed this. Also, really loving those crash bars that were made for you. I tried the link for flatlandsracing but it wouldn't load. Glad you're enjoying the AT...it is one bad-ass bike. That water crossing scene just makes my butt-cheeks clinch; it's amazing how well the AT handled that!!! If I'd had this when I fell on the ice/snow last month, I probably would not have fallen. I hope you get to do the Alaska trip...that would be so awesome to watch. Have you ever rented a bike in the South, like Atlanta? Was thinking about doing that when I visit my sister in a few months but it's expensive & some of the reviews aren't that good plus you just don't know if you can trust them to have the bike ride-ready for being out by yourself.

Thank you, I am so excited to have this bike, best one I have ever had and I have had some good ones over the years, but best fit for me and my riding I should say. I am very pleased with this bike, I just got back from March Moto Madenss, rode out there and back, on a long trip like the one I got back from yesterday, a hair over 1000 miles, I would not have minded a hair bigger than stock wind screen, but for what I do most of the time the wind screen works just fine, long trips, I would maybe get one larger. Oh Sweet, that is a pretty area you moved too, I am south moore area, still okc, but at the bottom towards more, you know how this area is, so that is where I am. I will definitely check it out and thanks for sharing it with me my friend. thanks again and I hope you have a blessed week.

I agre, that would be a nice touch as well, I am so old school and used to tubes that I didn't event think about it, but yes sir, you are 100% correct, that would be a terrific add to this bike as well. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I appreciate you my friend. and I hope you have a blessed weekend my friend.

I totally Agree the Triumph is and was a top contender when I bought this bike, if watch our video the things I hate about the Africa Twin, you will notice everything I mention comes stock on the Triumph. However, when making my final decision, I was planning a trip to Alaska, When you go west, the further west you go, there is fewer dealerships, A good friend who has been there several times warned me of some mechanical failures he had and the lack of dealerships was a huge issued and delay in his trip. But your right, if I had planned on staying mostly in my home state, it would have been no questions asked, a triumph. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. Thanks again and have a blessed week my friend Dale

What I've heard on the spokes is that it was on the previous twin. Honda have changed the spokes on the new ones.
