Cool video to show how to change your oil on your CB500F. I use Castrol semi synthetic blend with a HiFlo Filtro oil filter. The K&N filters are nice but pricey.

About to change my oil. I believe there are torque specifications for the filter and drain plug. I think something like 22 lb. ft. for the drain bolt...16 lb. ft. for the filter? Can anyone verify for me?

Is it bad to use engine oil with a greater operating range? I.e 5w40?
@dimos5422
@dimos5422 6 жыл бұрын
go in motuls site type your bike and it will show you what oil viscosities you can safelly use keep in mind the first letter is for when the oil is cold i use 5w40 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer on my vstrom since its cheaper to buy (here anyways) the second half is for the operating temperature meaning the oil behaves like 40 weight oil in the same temp. You can go for a higher viscosity but you will increase drag inside the engine because the oil is thicker and loose a bit in mileage for the same reason i personally dont change for a heavier viscosity oil unless its very hot outside or the engine burns oil and has a ton of mileage

1:27 What a bad design. I'm certain that not all the oil comes out. The oil pan should slope down and the bolt should point down
@motoryzen
@motoryzen 5 жыл бұрын
"1:27 What a bad design. I'm certain that not all the oil comes out. The oil pan should slope down and the bolt should point down" I don't blame ya much for being thorough about changing engine oil. Some people just let it drain until only it drips around 2 or 3 drips per second ( not enough drained for me) But, back on point, how to account for the "bad design" some? Simple. Before draining that oil, run the bike for a few minutes and get that oil at the normal temps, see if you can park the bike to where the rear tire is blocked from being able to move and that the front end is raised up..like on a car tire ramp or something like that but just enough to where you still have room to physically access the oil filter AND drain plug. Grab some good gloves ( rubber or nitrile) and just have good reflexes when getting that drain plug JUST at the very tip of being able to yank it away from the hole as the oil shoots out with that oil drain pan ready. Viola.
