What a low rent review ! The truth : honda yet again, produced a staggeringly reliable machine that took everything i threw at it. The brembo brakes were so powerful my front wheel could skid on a sunny day if i wanted to. Lest we forget this bike is so good it had its own racing class. This bike is so good that a well known motorcycle repairers in kennington london told me they had courier ridden ones in with 224,000 miles. And my experience is that this is the best "all round" bike ive ever owned ive had r1200gs,blackbird, fj1200 none can beat this gor fun. Buddy "go become a surveyor"

You just can't have a biased person doing reviews. The CB500 (naked), with a windshield is a solid bike. Handles well, super reliable and cheap to run both with regards to maintenance and fueling. Both of my CB500's have averaged just slighty above 23 km/l of gasoline, and that is statistics from over 10.000 km. (Edit: Now after 40.000 km. it's still right around 23 km/l ) 58 bhp is without a doubt, more than enough for a commuter. And the bike is powerful enough to even take it on roadtrips, if you have panniers or similar for it. I'm on my second CB500, one from '00 and my current from '97 (I recommend getting the '97+, because that's when they got fitted with rear disc brakes). Sure, it ain't super modern or stylish. Might not turn many heads, but to me, that ain't much in the way of a goal for me, when I ride. Depending on weight of rider/passenger/luggage, this bike should accelerate to 170-180 km/h. Which I would assume is good enough for most peoples needs, when it really comes down to it. When the rpm reaches 6k+ the power really begins to kick in. Update/Edit from early spring 2022: Fixed a few spelling mistakes. I've now ridden 36.000 km on my current CB500 twin. Haven't had any major problems at all. Only regular maintenance aswell as wear and tear pieces. Longest trip I've taken my CB500 on, was a weekend trip (two nights in a tent) to the Harz national park in Germany. A trip of 450 km. one way and did a total of around 1.500 km that weekend. I did get a little sore on my "rear-end" on my way home, otherwise the seat is decent. I can do at least a few hundred kilometers before I got any discomfort. I've recently changed the seat to one from "Topselleri", but this spring (2022) will be first time I ride with it.

The most fun I have on the roads has been with my CB500s, have had the 200bhp superbikes etc. and they just frustrated me on the road. As they say, better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Great bike and keeps going no matter how much I red line it (daily)

Just bought my CB500S a month ago and all i can say so far its a brilliant bike for around 2000 dollars. 15 years old and everything works perfectly fine. Acceleration is quite good and the handling is super easy!

if you want a dynamite buy a hayabusa , cb500 is for urbain use and for small trips. I have one and I intend to keep it at least for 30 years more. Now is 80.000 km and stil works like 10.000km. What is the point of going over 100 km in a residential area?

How can you rate a used bike for value? If this particular model, looking the way it looks, mileage not known, sells for 850 Euro it would be a great value. Or are they talking about the value when it was new? This bike lasts well over 100,000 km if you take care of it and is definitely worth every penny!

Unfair to the presenters - and most importantly unfair to the bike. Riding a worn and out poorly maintained example around an urban area isn't conducive to a comprehensive and usefully objective assessment. My own virtually mint 2001 CB500S with just 19K miles is a dream to own and ride. It is ultra reliable, the handling is sharp and the performance delivery is extremely smooth throughout the rev range. It easily keeps pace with the bigger bikes on club ride-outs, mostly kept within the legal limits, due to its occasionally called upon searing acceleration over 8K rpm. It's no coincidence that the bike had it's own race series and remains a much favoured ride in the Thundersport 500 race series. And it's cheap to insure, maintain and run.I write confidently on the CB500s' virtues as I also own and ride a 2010 reg Aprilia RSV1000 Factory R and a road registered (daytime MOT) 2001 ex Honda UK Racing Fireblade GP bike, prepped for the 2001 TT and 5th at the 2001 Macau GP, giving182 BHP at the back wheel. And guess what - the CB500S is the easiest to ride and consequently the most fun!

Out of all bikes I could afford back in November 2021 (budget was around 2000 euro) the CB 500S turned my head over the other CB 500 models that were available in the internet (I have a "slight" love for fairings on motorcycles XD). So hearing these reporters just knock it down in how good it actually is (to me as a starter bike) even till this day and the fact they, probably knowingly, have chosen a badly maintained model, kind of hurts my feelings. In November 2021 I bought a 2003 model of the CB 500S, it was a 2 owner (import from Germany, second owner had the power turned down to 35kw due to age related drivers license restrictions in The Netherlands), with sports exhaust😇(sounds mean as hell now, I did also get the stock exhaust with the purchase), had barely 30k on the clock, was always well looked after (full service history since day 1 documented), fairly fresh tires and fluids, and hard "saddlebags" 50 litre each. She has been a perfect commuter ever since the purchase. Being a starter motorcycle rider myself there is enough power and torque (even down low, but not below 2000rpm(!), so no need to rev its balls off every single time you need to get up to speed quickly) and it swings around corners nicely.(only other bikes I have ridden was a 600cc Yamaha naked during my driving lessons and (illegally) a 1970 Zundapp 125cc for a few runs around the block). Brakes are adequate, the hand controls are perfectly reachable and my slim 180cm body feels right at home on the bike. I forgot my inseem, but I can touch the ground adequately with both feet. (Only thing is that I cannot lift her up on my own when I drop her, she is kinda heavy when stationary.)

What da fuq?? I had one and they go like a freaking bullet and you have ride like a total nut to only get 55mpg. I easily got mid 60s and mid 70s is doable if take it easy. Utterly reliable, comfortable and used ones often have decent accessories like luggage and scottoiler. Plus a centre stand!! Still not as good at the 650 Deauville though, which is much nimbler than it looks.

I've had this bike for 5 years now, travelled over 30.000 kilometers on it and it never let me down. Around 4k rpm you really start to feel the power and it doesn't go down from there, if you reach 7k rpm it unleashes serious power. It's light and manouverable. I bought a custom exhaust for a couple bucks and it seriously sounds awesome. If you take care of it and maybe buy some new blinkers and mirrors, it has a cool retro vibe to it and it simply looks amazing. Fuck this guy for this trash review, it's a hell of a great machine!
