Honda CB500X Rack Installation Instructions

Just installed mine. If it were any easier I could have gotten my 6 y/o grandson to do it, I didn’t want him to cut his fingers with the knife. Looks great. Now I need a little bit warmer weather.

I just received and installed this rack on my wife's 2023 CB500X. I've been working on, and modifying motorcycles for decades, including building ground up show winning customs. I know quality when I see it and I know junk. This part is so well thought out, designed, and manufactured that Honda could NOT have done a better job. They wouldn't have because they're limited to what bean counters will allow. As for people saying it's a shame they have to modify the motorcycle. For one, this is hardly a " modification". If you bought this rack from the Honda dealer and the instructions said to cut off two little ( no longer necessary ) plastic tabs you would just consider it part of the installation and trust the Honda dealer. Would you prefer a crappy design that keeps the little plastic tabs ?? Beautiful work !!

Just installed mine this morning & very pleased with the quality of the product. Easy to fit & also checked it with some of my soft luggage packs. Just the small ones for now, for a day or two away.. thanks Blair..

I really like this but unfortunately when you add on shipping, the difference of the CAD against the AUD plus GST it is just too expensive to buy from Australia. Hopefully one day you will have distributors in other Countries. 👍

Interesting design, I wonder did you check it with luggage. Can you do another video showing top box mounted for example or is it only for soft bag?

To be honest, I gave no consideration to mounting a top box on this rack. I personally wouldn't use one so I didn't include that in my design criteria.

Top boxes are a highly pratical thing to have on a bike. Im a highly practical person, but gosh do i hate the look of a top box......

@@the.communist yeah I’m with you on the looks, I would use one either. Seems like it would change the center of gravity . This rack is awesome it will accommodate anything with a strap. There are plenty of opening in this rack, you may be be able to mount a box by putting a mounting plate beneath this rack and running mounting bolts through it

Did the rack also fit on to the new NX 500 and how much Weight can you Carry?

The rack is designed to handle 20 kg (44 lbs) but the weight should be low and centred over the rack. Based on the photos of the NX500 I’ve seen so far I don’t think it will fit that bike. I have an NX500 on order and will be modifying the rack to fit as soon as I can. No, this will not fit the NX500 because the taillight is slightly different than on the CB500X. I have an NX500 waiting for me at the dealership and I'll be working on a rack for it in the next several weeks.

Hi Jozsef, That really depends on HOW the weight is mounted. If the load is not hanging off the back of the rack but is evenly distributed over the centre of the rack, it will handle 20 kg (44 lbs). It's never a good idea to add too much weight behind the rear wheel of the bike as it will affect handling.

Good advice. If riding solo put the heaviest part of the load on the passenger seat and the lighter stuff in the back.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to confirm the fit on anything older than a 2019. Would love to find someone in, or around Winnipeg with an older model CB500X to investigate.

I don’t think this will fit the NX500 because Honda changed the taillight design. However, I’ve ordered an NX500 and have been told it will arrive in May. One of the first things I’ll be doing is looking at the rack to see how to modify it for the NX500. Send me a message through my website if you’d like to be notified when I have something available.

This rack is a permanent upgrade to my new bike. The loss of the tabs is regrettable, but solved by designer. I will save the tabs, they can be welded back on if I were ever to separate the two. (NEVER)

I didn't want to either, however the design really keeps everything tight. Literally a ten minute install start to finish. ( not counting watching this video)
