Great Start! I have 2 of these 1980 CB750F bikes (I grew up hearing that inline 4 sound from my brother's Suzuki GS 650) and have challenged myself to rebuild one back to original. I've been watching so many CB750 rebuilds to build my knowledge base but they are mostly all SOHC engines. Thank you for diving into rebuilding this engine and for giving us DOHC guys something to chew on. I hear that parts (particularly bearings) are hard to find for these bikes so I would appreciate it if you could document where you find your engine parts as you get into evaluating the internals and ordering replacements. That’s great, look forward to watching it. I thought it would be, it’s a starting point for me, the bike is running but not too worried about messing up, I’d do the diligent thing and take photos and lots of freezer bags to enable me to look back on what I’ve done along with the manual

Can the head be removed with the engine in the frame? According to my Clymer manual, you can't, but I remember a comment in the CW mag test that stated the frame is arched so the head will come off with the engine still in the framw.

Cheers Brian! You're actually the third person who has commented on the engine stand. I welded it up myself as a project (I haven't really welded before). I'll try and make a video to show the design.

Please tell me - the very forward left case engine cover that has 3 bolts , and that attaches to a larger cover piece of about 11 bolts, I have learned of three screws that could be loose that could cause things like the starter not engaging consistently. Is this a dry ( like the Stator coil side) , or a wet environment where one must account for engine oil if to remove either of these left sided engine covers ? thanks for your help -

@@naturalsIV Thank you again for your reply - that was my gut feel. I do plan on 10W50, but just replaced the 10W30 with 10W40 due to oven temps - I have a Pizza Oven Temp Gauge placed between the Clutch and Alternator housings. She can read upwards of 220f in New England - so I figured to try the 10W50. I am hoping I am speculating on the three screws under the left side, under those wet housings being loose for now - if not here comes another oil change !

I was wondering if you could help? My CB750 DOHC Transmission seems to loose its shift under acceleration after in gear? I have a 1979 CB 750. She has 14,500 miles on her. the last 1,000 this past year, the previous before I stored her in 88. I have done as lot of restoring during the Shelter in place. Now that she is doing well, I drove her under demand today to get to hi-way speeds. Today, first time I observed her while under acceleration demand, slipping out of a higher gear for a lower one? This happen a few times today. I was not sure if it was my foot inadvertently pushing the shifter down while my weight shifts under acceleration, , or is this a known mechanical issue with the CB 750 - Any thoughts would be helpful - thanks

what can i do if the large nut will not move the camshafts into place? i think its seized somewhere

Penetrating oil, heat, most importantly patience will help.

@@naturalsIV i’m able to move the nut in both directions but it doesn’t do anything. is there any other way for me to rotate the camshaft with the two sprockets? i’m unable to get one of the bolts out

@@naturalsIV ok thanks for responding. no snarky trolling i don't think. i just had some good info on how i removed my head and stuff to try to help peeple. my only sin i can think of is that i mentioned a soft tip hammer from harbor junk with part number. also the method was different than the way u did it. so i thought maybe u didn't like that. anyway, you could make an amazon money making link for a soft tip hammer and make some more cash! Thanks for the videos! they really help.😊

Thanks for making the vids man! In the middle of my own rebuild. Getting the cylinders bored out now for a 985cc big bore. Excited to get it all back together and running.
