Sorry about the distortion at higher speeds, it is what it is I’m afraid.
Please join us for at least some of this rather long ride on the New Honda Hornet 750. The ethos of the original Hornet, was fun, can the new incarnation follow suit. If you watch, you will find out ................. :-)
I am sorry that this ride is so long, and I know that most people won't get half way through, but please watch the first half at least, the road from Woore to Audlem was fun. Then I didn't just want to take the Hornet back, without trying on another road, then changed my mind, and came back to Woore before succumbing to the fact that, it wasn't my bike, and I couldn't just keep riding it, so back to the shop then !
Thanks to Ian and Dean at Staffordshire Honda for letting me loose on the Hornet.

Great review. I also had a test ride and my own thoughts chime with yours. As for the comments about speed and not going fast enough - there's a reason why we're grey haired motorcyclists and living to tell the tale. A bit of sense and a bit of respect for others whilst having a bit of fun - a good balance. I'm picking up my Hornet in a month and can't wait!

Hi Ian, thanks for doing this review and sharing your thoughts. I found it interesting to hear an opinion of an original hornet owner. I've previously owned both the original Hornet 600 and 900 myself and loved them both. That exhaust sounds lovely. Honda have really priced this perfectly, I can see it being a big seller for them. I know what you mean about test rides I daren't do one as I know I'd need a garage extension! 🤣 Cheers 👍
@ianhughesroyalenfield
@ianhughesroyalenfield Жыл бұрын
I admit to almost buying the 900, but I had already made a mistake by part exchanging a CB400 Superfour for a 1200 Bandit, so I was reluctant to go from the Hornet 600 to the 900. I decided I was far more “competitive” on a mid capacity bike 😉. The new Hornet, is definitely a little hooligan. I rode a similar bike yesterday, similar as in a revvy modern parallel twin (I am leaving that vid for a while though), but it just didn’t give me the same feeling as the Hornet. Fortunately, I don’t have a plentiful supply of £££’s so no chance of being overly tempted, though I can dream of winning the lottery 😂 Cheers

Enjoyed the vid, and even watched start to finish, seriously considering one of those as my next bike, first big bike as it were, oddly enough popped into the same dealership last weekend to look around and ask about them, but the guy on sales seemed really disinterested, so much so wasn't inclined to talk about it beyond we've only 2 colours in, and order one today and you still won't see it here until September at earliest and wandered off, I may end up getting one, but if that's a example of their sales efforts I'd hate to rely on them being interested in a warranty issue, but seriously, subscribed and enjoyed watching a couple of yours today including the BSA.

Thank you so much. It is a shame that you were made to feel that way, I do know that they are struggling to get new bikes from Honda, but there is no need to be disinterested, especially when this is a relatively new dealership. These review videos of mine are quite long, so I thank you for sticking with them 😂, but I don’t think you can get a true feel for something, with just a half an hour round the block. I have an interesting/different bike coming up within the next fortnight, you might like that too. Thanks again, and your sub means a lot.

@@ianhughesroyalenfield no worries, good no nonsense reviews are always worth a watch, I reckon a long video as a viewer can let us pick up how you start to feel about a bike, lot's of emotions to be drawn to with any bike if it's half decent, so I'd rather see 40 mins of everything than 15 mins of catch phrase driven drivel 😄 by an influencer 🤮, but yes I judge a retailer by how they treat customers, having worked in trade it's the customer experience we all buy into, I'll take a look at the Chester area dealership since Crewe doesn't do the Honda's now. I will definitely enjoy more vids, who knows I might even end up with a R E

@@patmaher5500 I was going to suggest the other’s, after all, it’s easy enough to get there. Roger at Crewe, is hoping to get an array of Enfield’s to test ride sometime in May. Have a go on the Interceptor, it might just surprise you. Though no gadgets and gizmo’s, being very basic. I am biased though 😂. Its cool getting all fizzy over a new model, but at the price there's no doubt the suspension is cheaper than chips. Same as any true econo box overly styled japanese bike. I bought a new SV 650 once after all the glowing reviews...........replacing the suspension completely turned out to be the only fix. The boingers only looked like suspension................reviewers really go light on this sort of thing. They tend towards glowing praise.

I actually do tend to say if there is something I am not keen on, but let’s be totally honest, there aren’t any “bad” motorcycles produced these days. Manufacturers can’t produce a keenly priced motorcycle, without cutting corners here and there. Ok, the suspension aren’t adjustable all singing, all dancing Ohlins, but they work. I found it handled well enough. My channel is mainly scenic rides on my Royal Enfield Classic 350, but when the opportunity arises to take something out for a spin, I take it. I did take another “budget” bike out, which really did impress me kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4fYg6mtebebnZosi=ir_mEiE8nJWFmBYy most of my other reviews are on RE’s and the BSA.

Very interesting Ian ! this is one that I have given some serious thought about ,I am not normally that into the angular look of todays bikes but this one to me has a good symmetry about it .I get exactly what you say about not wanting to like it as you enjoyed the 4 cylinder version of yester year, it is the same for me with the new Kawasaki Z650 as I had the original one and loved it and regret ever swapping it in . Ian mate if got one of these I am sure it wouldn't make a jot of difference to you subscribers I reckon , I think I do prefer this even to the 765 Street although down on horses this looks better to me and is one hell of a lot cheaper, although I do recall that TAYM was not so enamored with this one 😆.This has the same horses as my XJR which does appeal since it weighs a lot less although I won't part with that .Great watch much enjoyed and I just have to try one this summer no doubt's.👌👍

Definitely get on one, even if to just scratch that itch. I wish though that they hadn’t called it the Hornet, in the same way Kawasaki did with the Z650 (I too enjoyed both mine), and in some way BSA with the Goldstar. But, I guess the manufacturers are trying to play with our emotions, and winning to a certain extent. RR, mentioned the Honda GB750 which is apparently coming in 2024. With the styling being a modern take on the historic CB750’s. I have looked on Google, and it looks a peach. Look forward to seeing that one, as it uses the same engine. As for not losing subs, I have lost a couple from the release of this video, goodness knows what will happen next week when I put out another “interesting” demo ride out 😂. Cheers

Morning Neil, unfortunately funds won’t stretch to another bike. In 2024, Honda are apparently bringing out a Classic looking version called the GB750 with twin shocks, and paint reminiscent of the original CB750. It will be a twin, based on the new Hornet. We just have to live with the fact that reinventing the old names on new bikes is on trend. Look at BSA and the Goldstar, I know we all go on about it, but that’s the way it’s going. Cheers. If you have a look at most of the modern bikes from all the manufacturers, very few have centre stands or provision for them, which is a huge negative for me. Fannying around at the back end, getting everything in line for a successful, safe lift, on uneven ground, even with bobbins is a pain in the arse. At that moment in time on the ride, caught up in the emotion of it all, I would have happily ridden it home, but……..on reflection, I don’t think it would be a keeper. Can’t put a finger on why though ! Thanks for your comment.

For those of us who have been riding for many years, we can remember when all bikes came with a “main” or “centre” stand. They were in the days before “Adventure” bikes were even thought of. There aren’t that many Adventure bikes which come with a centre stand as standard, but they are available as an optional extra. Although I see the benefits of a quick shifter on the track, I have managed for over 45 years without one on the road. I did have one on a Yamaha Tracer 900 in 2019, but rarely used it. At the end of the day, we all like different things. I like the convenience of having a centre stand, and the ability to still use a clutch for gear changes. Cheers

I don't even see the need to get a full exhaust from a sound perspective. Then again, with the performance it has, I don't even see the need to get a full exhaust for performance gains. But my oh my it's has some potential with a full exhaust and a dyno.

Unfortunately not, this is the only Hornet they had as a demo. Apparently, Hornet’s are quite hard to get hold of here now. With prospective new owners having to wait till August before they take delivery. I have watched some other demo’s, and they do say the std exhaust sounds well. I would imagine that other brands of “silencer”, would be just as fruity, and much cheaper. Since publishing this video, I had a look at the price of the SC Projects exhaust…… £900 😳..that is a lot of money. Had a look on eBay, saw some rather nice looking cans for around £400. As I mentioned in the review, there is enough power, and how the power is delivered, to satisfy most people……it would certainly be enough for me, but I’m knocking on a bit 😂 Cheers

Hi Ian. Im a 62 year old who just passed my test. Would you recommend the hornet or possibly the 650 interceptor? Read that the interceptor has cheap parts and poor tyres. How do you honestly find it? Also looking at the cb500 or nc750x hondas. Any views appreciated.
@ianhughesroyalenfield
@ianhughesroyalenfield 10 ай бұрын
Hmm this is so complex. No easy answer. The Hornet is a quick bike, no two ways about it, quite a bit quicker than the Interceptor, and CB500’s. It does lack a bit of character, but that won’t bother most riders who are looking at it. Suspension is quite hard too, but as you can see from my test ride, I had fun, and that’s what motorcycling should be all about. Being air cooled, the Interceptor has bags of character, is less refined, and yes it does have cheaper components. Unfortunately for the Interceptor, RE have steadily been increasing the cost, which doesn’t make it the bargain it was when I bought mine in 2020, and depreciation is pretty grim. It does mean there are some cracking used, low mileage, accessory loaded bargains to be had, l. That said, the Interceptor is a brilliant first bike, as well as a bike for the seasoned motorcyclist. Capable of about 100mph, but I was happier at 70 - 80mph. I never had any issues with the Pirelli Phantom’s which were fitted to the earlier models, and not ridden on the new Ceat’s fitted to Interceptor’s now, but my Classic 350 has them, and that is perfectly fine. I haven’t ridden the new CB500’s or NC750, but think the 500’s performance maybe similar to the Interceptor (possibly a bit quicker), with the NC750 being very much more refined. Best advice I can give, is to do your research, and take them out yourself. Try and get a decent ride on them, not just a quick run around the block. In fact, try and take out some of the Chinese offerings too, again, depreciation is an issue, but the level and quality of equipment will blow you away. I rode a Moto Morini Seiemmezzo, quality suspension, Brembo brakes, engine copied from Kawasaki’s 650 twin and made by CF Moto, who are also in partnership with KTM, making some of their engines. CF Moto, also have a range of high spec bikes, though I haven’t ridden them either, they are on my to do list. I hope this helps in some way, I am 61, but have 45+ years experience. At the end of the day, it depends what you want from your bike. If you want a state of the art bike which will hold it’s money, then perhaps go for one of the Honda’s. If you want a characterful bike, which will be a magnet for oldies to come over for a chat, looks cool (depending on model), go for a RE or BSA Goldstar for that matter. The BSA’s seem to hold their money quite well, with a ride not too dissimilar to an Interceptor, quality components too. (I have 3 vids on the BSA). Definitely worth considering. I could go on and on 😂 Let me know how you get on, you have a tough choice.

Oh, and almost forgot. Check out the Suzuki SV650, the bike I had originally sold my Interceptor to buy, before plans changed. Enough power to have fun on, but docile enough to be sensible when the mood takes you. Depending where you are based, but some bargain new bikes to be had at the moment too.

at the same age, I'm just going through the same process, and have decided on the 750 hornet as reviewed here (in yellow or maybe black) and will shortly be parting with my cash for one. I was seriously going to go for a cb500f, but for the price difference and extra features/performance of the 750 it seems a no brainer. I briefly considered a RE 650, but they seem a tad on the heavy side, less nimble, and 'old man nostalgia' type bike to me, but hey, what do i know?, each to their own !!, and you can't whack a honda for a great all round, cost effective and reliable bike IMHO, so what did you go for in the end?

Question is, did Honda REALLY build a 750 twin that makes 90 HP? Or is that the standard Honda party line? An 890KTM makes a little over 90HP and does it very nicely. But its not a 750. Do we only have a Honda dyno to verify power?

They seem to be keeping at the original price, but availability is the issue, with waiting times being quite long. Get yourself a test ride, it’s a good bike.

No hugger/rear mudguard and the front mudguard is rather short so the bike will be a mess after riding on wet and even just slightly damp roads. Penny-pinching in the extreme from Honda!

I get what you mean, but many modern bikes are like that. Companies like “Pyramid Plastics” or “Ermax” do huggers and fender extenders, though I haven’t looked if they do them the new Hornet. Obviously it is competitively priced, so they will have cut costs somewhere.

@@ianhughesroyalenfield yes I found it later on my test ride 2 days ago. Like you I’d enjoyed my old hornet and thought I’d give this ago. A great bike but still not sure if it’s me now. Cb650r was a softer throttle response earlier on more like the older 600. I’m sure I’d get used to it and much better than the MT07

The new Hornet was definitely fun (in sport mode), I wanted to try the CB650R, but unfortunately they didn’t have one available. What I miss with these twins though, and I think you might agree, is the thrill of heading towards a bend at speed, going down the gears, and nailing it out. Very hard to put into words, but you have to ride them differently. Yes they have the punch when you wind them up, yes they handle superbly, but you just can’t beat an in-line four for feel and thrill. Then there is the exhaust note, this Hornet sounded naughty with the very expensive (£900) SC projects exhaust, but still not as good as a screaming four with a Micron (or similar) end can in my opinion. That said, I used to ride like a loon, so it is possible that not everyone would understand what I mean 😂 Cheers
