Big thanks to Jonny for gifting me this bike, I fully appreciate it. Please comment if you have any experience of the riding or owning a Honda CBR1000F or as it’s known, Hurricane.

Keep it and restore it! Great bike. It's apart of history!

I have started working on the bike, it will be more of a recommission than a restore, but hopfully back to a good functioning Machine!

I got one in the blue and white paint scheme. I like it very much. Seating position is not overly bent over, power delivery is very smooth. From 5000 rpm it really pulls. Even with the sub zero temperatures it starts really quik. Mine has 50k miles on it, and you do hear the cam chain tensioner on a cold start up, it goes away quikly when it warms up. Only thing it is quite heavy when parking and manouvring without the engine on.

That is good feedback on the bike, I agree it's quite a heafty bike, but as you say will be fine once moving. I have started working on it so should be ready for spring time. Thanks for watching

Cool, looking forward to the video(s)! I even bought a Gimbel aftermarket seat to improve the looks a bit, but it needs to be painted, so it is still in a box after a year..

Brilliant to hear. Yes, very solid bikes. I have started work on her, will get a video out soon.

True about being undervalued.. I have just added a really nice, original 1991 CBR1000F, in the so called ‘Benetton’ multi coloured scheme. It only has 23k miles and just purrs.. Really nice bike. These are slowly getting more and more rare in good condition

Yes, I think they will become desirable through time, they are very good bikes with Honda build and reliability! I hope you enjoy yours

Its got a nice exhaust system on it worth at least £300 so its good . Engine sound like a Honda should . I bought a Blackbird a few years ago and it was in shite when i bought it but after a bit of TLC ran pefectly . I do think that for what it would cost and the amount of time it would take just go ahead and replace the timing chain . Its a simple job and cheap . These bikes are known for the timing chain rattle. £100 would have it done if you do it your self.

Thanks, good advice re the cam chain, I am about to get the bike on the bench for a service and assessing. I loved my Blackbird such a beautiful engine in that thing!

WOW! you got that bike for free?? I love 80s/90s bikes and have a small but growing collection, and saw one of these for sale on FB here in NZ. Its an 87 red/white, hasn't been going for at least 5 years (carbs apparently😏) fairing are off, but seller says they are all there, and he wants 3000 NZ dollars! 🤣🤣 (1400 pounds) I would love to get one of these as i remember when they came out, I was onn a working holiday in London as a motorcycle courier, and one of the guys bought one, it was big and heavy but boy was it fast, and comfortable, top gear roll ons with another mates 87 FZR1000 it would just power away from the FZR. Good luck with it, I would show it some love.

Yes, I do believe they are great bikes. I will work on it over the winter (your summer!), as a sports tourer it will be up there with best despite its age. Thanks for watching the video and for your comment. Sending my best from Scotland

I had a first model year Blackbird a few years back. It even had the original exhaust. They certainly are well built.

Hi David, I had the early model too. Have ridden the later injected one, but not much difference. Great bikes and built like tanks!
@davidyoung95619 ай бұрын
@johndocbikerestorations831 my one was a very late 1996 so a very early one. The early ones are actually more powerful at 164bhp. In top gear at 1000 rpm, slight twist of the throttle and it would reach motorway speeds in no time.

You don’t need to bother lubing the chain John, that wee leak from the gear shift will do the trick, just get a bit of speed up and it works a treat.

It's a shame, there are a few really good bikes that are overlooked these days, I guess for many people they simply aren't trendy enough. It does though mean bargains for those of us who appreciate the quality engineering gone into these bikes.
@johndocbikerestorations8318 ай бұрын
Agree, lots of really good bikes selling for next to nothing, when I think back this was the same for RDs, Fizzys and other bikes that are now classed as valuable!

I thought back in 1987 the Honda hurricane 1000 was the fastest production bike at the time at 163 mph. Not too bad.
