Excellent work and nicely put together video, thanks. I had the early jelly mould one about fifteen years ago. Other bikes since of course but I'm going to look at a 91 model tomorrow with a wingrack and luggage. It's red and white of course. So I'm hopeful of going back to the future at 66 years young!

Had a new 1987 Honda CBR1000F Hurricane that I bought back in the day. It was the rarer Monza Red/Black color scheme. Great comfortable bike. Had a lot of fun with that bike.

@@JohnC7700 Sorry for a late reply. Everyone was buying and talking about Kawasaki's new bike, the Ninja, which came out around 1984. Two years later Honda came out w/the 1987 CBR1000F Hurricane and put the Ninja on notice that a new big dawg was in town to compete. Was MotorCyclist Magazine 1987 "Bike of the Year" award. Great video John and thanks for the memories!!

@@JohnC7700 The only problem I had was sometimes it would skip from 1st into neutral. Brand new!! Honda didn't help much so I took apart the gearbox and found out the internal assemblies weren't torqued properly. Went thru it all and torqued to factory specs which that info was hard to obtain at that time. Put it back together and never had a problem again. The clanking camshaft chain sound went away after 2 minutes of riding. So it never really bothered me at all. Again, great video and thanks for the memories!

I bought my CBR 1000 F in 93 and still take it out on sunny days...I can't believe that after all these years I still find it a superb quality motorcycle....I have ridden the CBR black bird and if it was for the dash layout you would think it's the same bike. Keep up the excellent quality workmanship

Wow, only just found this video. I owned this bike from 1999-2002 and it was beautiful when I sold it with new chains, sprockets and tyres for £1150 as I had an injury at work and couldn’t ride anymore sadly. You’ve done a great job of the refurb, it looks brilliant.

My 4th large bike was a 1990 CBR 1000 in the grey silver. I did like the bike and it went well with the wife's CBR 600. But I have to be honest. It was not my favorite bike. My previous bike was a 1982 Honda CX500T Turbo. That bike was a pure dream to ride and the acceleration was second to none in 1982 up until Honda made the CX650T. The 500 was just more comfortable on long rides and you could pass cars in groups. My friend had a CBX and he would have to drop gears just to keep pace. He would eventually catch me. But we usually ran out of road by that time. The CBR 1000 was my last bike and I sold it because it needed a full time rider.

Absolutely fantastic. Great job and I loved the picture of Sgt Wilson from Dad's Army as the bank manager. You should be proud of the work and perseverance you've shown. I was a Suzuki man until I took this Honda for a test run. This was the best motorbike I owned and have fond memories of riding this in Victoria Australia. Thank you again for the great video.

John, what a professional video and superb end result of a CBR 1000f. I am in awe of your skills (and your workshop)! I went from a 1937 MG VA to a new red stripey FJ in 1987 and the performance was mind blowing. What a contrast. I had 3 more over the years, plus 2 Blackbirds. Now over the hill, but look back with fondness. Well done with your talents.

Hey thank you Chris for the kind words. Love FJ's and ofcourse the Blackbird is what the CBR always should have been. I'm a bit over the hill too, but can't let that stop us:-) Just started a GL1100 rebuild so that should be fun!

Hey John. You are my hero. :-) A really good work. You have gone to the limit by restoring in this detailed level. My own CBR1000F SC24 is just in good shape, so i can use and ride it and have not much work on it. Congratulations for your very good result. Greeting from Germany.

Hi Thorsten, Thanks for the comment buddy! I'm thinking of a tour of the Black Forest this year on my CBR, have you been there? Good CBR's are getting harder to find so look after yours and enjoy! Passen Sie auf sich auf!
@thorstensteinhoff66047 жыл бұрын
Hi John. The Black Forest is a very nice location for bikers. Streets are in good condition and not so much traffic. And the bonus is the german "Autobahn". At some parts you can ride as fast as you want. It is a big fun, but you have to be very carefull. Have some nice days in Germany and enjoy it.

Looks superb! How did you improve the plastics? I've just got the same model and given it some tlc to get it on the road but after being stood 11 years the cosmetics need improving.
@JohnC77003 жыл бұрын
It's a bit of a long process, but I melt new plastic (if needed) using a heat gun and then reinforce by melting aluminum mesh behind to add strength. The area is then sanded and I use Plastex to repair cracks and created a new surface that can be finally sanded. A good quality water based base colour like Autoair and 2k clear finishes nicely:-)

Awesome bike. Just, curious how much it, cost to achieve that standard of refurbishment? I bought my first litre bike recently. A cbr1000f on a 91 plate. I absolutely love riding it 😍😍😍
@JohnC77005 жыл бұрын
Hey Robbie, I suppose in total I spent £2,500. Upgrading the suspension was very expensive, and whilst I did all the paint myself I still spent over £500 on buying the paint. I don't ride her too much, just on perfect sunny days, but it's hard to believe this technology was available in 1988!!
