Great bike. Just street riding. Now I have a Cbr1000 2015 SP & S1000rr 2015. In the past, use to have 3 olds CBR's and I miss all of them, they are docile, but powerful enough, I enjoy ride this bikes, in my opinion they are very reliable, I do not hesitate to cross the country in one of them, they are extremely comfortable, great fuel economy.. I love my CBR a lot.. The BMW in other hand is angry, more powerful , and also very easy to ride, but I'm still loyal to my CBR, I really enjoy ride it. At the end, if you go with CBR's route I think you will be more than happy.

Adeysworld Agreed! I doubt that it would be able to compete with an RSV4 or a Panigale.. However, I personally find the current Japanese king of the hill (R1) to be lacking in the styling department. That said a v4 and a styling upgrade would definitely make it a serious contender.

If Honda would make a modern version of the RC30/RC45, complete with V4 engine and top shelf suspension, electronics for World SBK homologation, even at a higher price and limited numbers, I think that they would really win back riders that moved to the RSV4, R1, S1000RR, and Panigale. I have been waiting for that bike for over a decade, but the RCxx V4 rumors never came to fruition. I used to have VFR and I daily ride a crossplane R1 now with no regrets (lovely bike). I think the truth is that Aprilia really created the spiritual successor to the Honda V4s with their amazing RSV4. Fun video, by they way. Keep them coming!

I never been on a CBR1000RR even though I love the look but I like a bike with tons of low end torque to rip through a tight twisty road and a good traction control setup. Not because I'm hanging the back out all the time but what if you come across a dirty patch of road mid corner. TC might just step in and help you from sliding out and low sliding. I love having confidence in that sense. Thanks for the video Adey, you da man

Your video content is getting better and better. I think you're right. Among the current supersport line up it doesn't have anything to really diversify it from the others and nothing about it provokes much emotion for me anyway. I think if it had a vtwin or v4 that would be a step in the right direction as well as some less conforming style. I bet a more torquey engine would mesh better with the characteristics of that chassis.

First of all, love this channel, stunning photography and a talented presenter who gives a shit about what he's talking about. I ride a 2013 600RR and it has the same issues, it's greatest strength is its greatest weakness. The bike is so tight, so natural, that it disappears from your mind as you ride. This is great when your carving lines because you can concentrate on the job at hand, but the bike never does anything wild that makes you go, oh f$):! That was nuts!, and so the ride gets....placid, no matter how hard you push the CBR stays obedient, and kind of....numb.

Nice review! I've read in several places that Fireblade is forgettable and has no character. There must be some truth to this. I am far away from the States, I live in Switzerland (beautiful mountaineous roads here). I am just a beginner. Have been riding bike for 1 year, but so far done 20000 miles, was riding through the winter, by -5C temps etc. Still, my level of skill is far below yours. But, I am smitten by bikes. I currently have 3: 2014 Triumph Daytona 675 (non-R but with quickshifter), 2002 Honda F4i (I updated front to RaceTech springs+valves and back to Wilbers shock set to my weight of 210lb without gear, plus braded steel brake lines, and that is the one I ride daily and in all weathers) and I have almost new (3000 miles) 2002 CBR954RR FireBlade which I love. My girlfriend has 696 Monster and 2010 CBR600RR ABS. In this one year I have test ridden many bikes, 899, 1299S Panigales, MV Agusta F3 800 and Brutale 900, 2012 CBR1000RR with full Bazzaz kit, 2015 S1000RR several times, S1000R naked, Speed Triple R, Street Triple R, Ducati Diavel etc. Recently I test rode 2014 Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC with Akra exhaust. I've seen your videos with RSV4, you say one has to be experienced and ride hard to enjoy it. I tell you, even with my miniscule skills I loved the bike! It goes in the corners as fast as my Daytona (and she is very agile and very light, you should review it!). First gear is a bit too long on RSV4 and it does not feel as fast as my 954RR (which has this power kick around 3500rpm that I love) but I was so in love with Aprilia I seriously considered trading my 3000 mile Daytona 675 for it....until I red forums and saw the scary reliability and part availability problems Aprilia owners experience. Recently I've been looking at 2006-2007 SC57 CBR1000RR. I like the way it looks. No electronics and of course not as good a ride as RSV4 or S1000RR or any modern electronic bike. Also the common generator failure of SC57 scares me. I am a bit confused now. Not buy anything (already have to many) or buy RSV4, or S1000RR (2012 model though, 2015 is too expensive for me) or get SC57 2007 Fireblade that looks amazing in red...Cannot get all of them, my gf will quit me, which I do not want. :-)

Last saturday i've test-ridden a 2015 S1000RR and afterwards a 2015 Fireblade. The Honda was a brilliant bike, but it was just plain boring after the Beamer. Not because of power or looks (i hate the beamer in that category) but because of lack of character. The beamer pops and bangs everytime you get off the gas, it's fucking loud even stock, it just feels more exciting. You hit the nail on the head when you said the Blade is "forgettable".
@hondaboy945
@hondaboy945 9 жыл бұрын
Does making a bike loud make it unforgettable? Or just louder? I am a little bias dues to having owned every CBR since 1987, but price-per-performance the CBR beats the BMW, and Ducati in my opinion. But everyone likes something for a reason.

Kris DeWitt It wasn't just that ofcourse. The point is, after i stepped of the BMW i was grinning ear-to-ear. Then i testrode the Blade and expected to be similarly excited, and i just wasn't. I can't really put my finger on it, but the Blade was honestly boring after the BMW.

Kris DeWitt I test rode 2012 CBR1000RR with full Bazzaz kit. I got off it and I forgot it. The same goes for Panigales, Ducati is just not my cup of tea. I test rode MV Agusta F3 800 and I could not stop thinking about it for a week. Had to ride it again a few months later just because. I test rode 2014 RSV4 APRC Factory and I was dripping with excitement afterwards. The CBR1000RR is less exciting than my 954RR, for me, that is. Though I have been giving some thought of getting another bike, 2006-2007 SC57 Fireblade, just because I like the looks. Oh, and 2015 S1000RR I test rode several times was freaking exciting, only a bit too fast for our roads.

I almost bought a new blade last year because i was getting a fantastic deal on it but i walked away in the end. And bought the 2014 rsv4 Factory and im so glad i did i am in total love with this bike. Honda's build ethos was enough for a long time the qaulity is brilliant and the bike works! ,but the game has moved on now,and Honda hasent kept up it's as simple as that , as you stated there is no charecter, i dont get that feelling of joy just being on it even though it works perfectly well and is capable of more than i can extract from it . V4 with honda build qaulity and a change from the gareish sharp jagged paint schemes and some qaulity components Ohlins brembo etc.Now that would get my attention. Honda could easily do it if they put there mind to it.

A quick shifter and auto blipper would be nice as well as steel brake lines, adjustable rearsets and light weight wheels in lieu of an elaborate electronics package to keep costs reasonable. It could use a compression bump in the motor for some extra oomph. It's gonna be tough to improve the Blade to beat the sharp end of the liter bike class without approaching a $20K MSRP though...

Yeh if Honda did make a bike like what you speak of, they will sit next to the new R1 price-wise. I'm sure the other Japanese manufacturers are waiting to see if people will shell out nearly $18K for a Japanese motorcycle.
@curtisvisser

Adeysworld I think if the character, quality, technology, and delivery can match its peers, many people would pay for that - well that piece of mind that comes with Japanese engineered bikes. No Italian idiosyncrasies/limited dealer presence, no lopsided German headlights (thankfully the S1000 series doesn't seem plagued by the adventure line's reliability issues), no mechanically noisy, expensive to maintain Austrian V twin. Yamaha is setting the benchmark for Japanese manufacturers right now, and I hope honda steps up to the plate. I'd love to ride a modern (V4 Please!) Honda Superbike.

@XenoformII 9 жыл бұрын
Serge Go That's true but generally speaking, Japanese sport bikes are cheaper and simpler to repair, and have better dealership support than any of the European brands. If you have stator problems with an RSV4 for example, it can take months for the new part to arrive from Italy, and there aren't many as Aprilia dealers as there are Honda dealerships.

What makes me love the Panigale or the RSV4 is not how good they are but rather how they sound and look. Its something special when you hear the V4 or listen to the whistle of a Triumph. Number one, its not a bike that everyone has, unlike Japanese bikes, and Number two, when you have one it sounds, and looks special, and it rides in a different way. At the end of the day is the Fireblade a damn good bike, yes it is, but its not special when it looks and sounds like everything else in its category and thats true for alot of bikes.

It almost sounds like you want the bike to have a tick or a challenge of some sort. Because it's so serene and "zen like" when you ride it, does it not make you feel like you have something to "work on"? Bikes like the Panigale are knife edge and take time to get used to. The S1000RR seems like riding a GTR, robotic, computerized. I think for me, if they made it more raw and visceral, then it would be more appealing.

Personally I feel they need to deviate from their current design cues, which I know is unique to the Fireblade, but there has to be radical design change for sure. Engine wise, power delivery wise, handling wise, it has proven itself time and time again, maybe not up there with the HP4's and the 2015 R1, but it sure holds it own ground. Next up would be a sweet V4 engine or maybe a supercharger like the H2R's

Honestly, everytime i got off my first bike, 95 suzuki 250 across which redlines at 16.5 but with a 0-60 time of forever lol i got off the bike with the biggest smile. Literally everytime. It had CHARACTER! it sounded like a motogp bike. Now to the hondas...talking to my dad about it and realised i have owned it for 6 months and i have never had that happiness i got with the suzuki 250 when you step off the bike. Honda should put a V4 in the Blade. The whole "engine derived from MotoGP" thing has seemed to work very well for Yamaha. Probably a V4 would make it more desirable for me. As long as its still a beautifully balanced machine. I think that is the main reason behind the success of the Honda. Along with the reliability and build quality. A V4 would give it enough character to get the people back into it. Inline 4 exhaust notes are boring as well.

Hmmmm... Fireblades have always been inline 4s. If they do a V engine, its a different bike. What Honda can do the create more "desirability" is... A new engine that spits out a little more torque and more horsepower Simple traction control thats intuitive KEEP the Showa BPF upfront ABS standard? Paint and colors... get away from black wheels, and do some matte or metallic paint on the body work... maybe a "super-limited Fireblade retro-edition" with bold colors from the past? Partner up with an exhaust manufacturer and develop a more distinct exhaust note (Yoshimura works with Suzuki afterall/ or Termignoni with Ducati) More Honda accesories for the bike! And for godsakes, make it official and call it the FIREBLADE in the US!!!! I like what they did for 2015... the SP model is the Repsol edition "mono-posto."

In my mind, Honda has alway been the generic Superbike, mechanically perfect, does everything you want, and while I haven't rode one, everyone says they are very easy to ride and user frendly. That being said, I think they need a total style make-over. When I look at a Ducati, Aprilia, MV Agusta, Yamaha or even the controversial styling of the BMW, these bikes evoke an emotional response from me that the Honda doesn't. I lust after the others, and I'd buy one of the others, even if I knew that the Honda was technically superior. It's like when a girl says "on paper he's perfect", but she doesn't spend all night thinking about him.

What is character what is soul?? Honda could easily build a bike to beat the current crop im guessing more power and full electronics to an already perfectly balanced chassis would be a winning combo but would it have that magic ingredient?? does that little extra come from a v4 or v twin exhaust note a savage mid range or is it down to looks or just the way you feel sitting on the bike?? It's a tough one I guess different bikes will suit different riders! Would love to see honda up the game yet again

Just picked up a zx10r. It was that or the cbr. The cbr felt so "boring". The gauge cluster , controls, everything seemed to look so old vs all the other Japanese competitors... I believe the cbr looks the best by far for the Japanese bikes. But that's not enough when the quality looks cheap and old

Honda needs the V4. They've known that's what their customers have wanted for a long time now. So instead they build a bike that only millionaires can afford. Way to go Honda! Personally, I've given up on them. If I were in the market for a litrebike right now, I'd drop my money on a 2015 R1 in a heartbeat. I rode the first gen. crossplane R1 many times and loved it, (-there's a bike with character!). I can only imagine how good the new one must be...

Fireblade is a street bike, so, imho, Honda should: 1) keep the engine, it is torquey and fast enough for any road 2) rework the exhaust, make it sound more exciting (a-la-S1000RR) 3) Drop 20lb. I mean, Triumph ABS weighs 4lb, Honda's - 20lb. Come on! 4) Restyle the whole bike. 954RR and 2004-2007 1000RR looked good. 2008-... looks freaking bland. Also, get some colors for those wheels - gold, red, whatever, even if this costs extra money.

Adey, I'm coming out to LA (I live in Brooklyn) at the end of April primarily to ride motorcycles. I'm trying to rent an S1000r from Racy Rentals. If they don't have one in stock, I'll take the 899 for a spin. What are your favorite SoCal roads? Thanks much!

Hey what's up man. You're not going to want to leave if you ride out here. Some of my fav roads are in Malibu...Stunt...Mulholland...TheSnake..Encinal. Then there's Angeles Crest...that place is massive and can take an entire day to ride through all the roads within it.

Just realized I didn't answer the question that was asked at the end of the video To give the CBR gumption and get it to raise some havoc on the senses would be to change the design ethos which makes it so neutral in the first place, as a CBR rider I don't know if I'd want that bike. There's something special in the bottled tornado that is my RR and there's no other supersport that does completely controlled chaos like an RR

The Blade offers nothing special compared to other liter bikes. It's down on power, lacks styling and attitude/character, years behind in technology. The only thing going for it is price point. Honda needs to step their game up in any or all of the aforementioned shortcomings. M Even so, I can't see myself buying a Honda over an Italian or German bike. Still have respect for the blade but it definitely needs sharpening. Great vids Adey, keep making more.

bought 2015 s1000rr because it was cheaper from "BMW finance" to lease and cheaper overall prices even when fully loaded ( all electronic package) and keeps more market value in 3 years time, typically when I wanna sell it.

Cman Hmmm...I felt the least cramped on the Panigale, R1 and CBR1K. The Panigale provided the most comfort by having the widest bars and perfectly placed footpegs.

Unfortunately, functional and forgettable is pretty much Honda's motto these days (limited edition / concept vehicles aside). Some people actually like that though. I'd put my car in the same category (2015 Audi S4 with a Revo tune) and I like the fact that it's fast and functional without trying to be something it's not. I obviously like my bikes to be exciting but there seems to still be a pretty strong market for Honda's newer formula. That said, I think I'd buy a new 'blade if they tricked it out with some really good electronics, a V4 (Honda has done them before and did them well), a nice stock exhaust, and some modern niceties like a TFT display, LED headlights, etc. Similar to the R1/R1M but not as fugly and with a more memorable powerplant. I think it's well within Honda's DNA to build a bike like that.

SmokinZen True. No fun getting stuck up the hill somewhere. I had a friend whose Kawa ZX-6R died 200km away from home on a Swiss mountain. Had to transport her back as a pillion. That's Japanese reliability. 2004-2007 CBR1000RR had big problems with generators dying over and over again stranding people in all kind of places (even on holidays in other countries). 2008-... Fireblade has a oil drinking problem. I am sure Honda is more reliable than, say, Aprilia (that is why I did not buy the amazing 2014 RSV4 Factory APRC that I test rode, have read the forums, got scared of dodgy mechanical and service quality) but still, there is an emotional side to the bike riding.

It's sad that Honda basically stopped developement on this thing. It's basically the same since 2009 and it just can't compete with its rivals anymore. Not a looker either. Great torque though, but that's it. I would love to see an all new fireblade like Kawasaki did a few years ago, or like Yamaha did more recently. A bit more edgy styling in stead of this babyfaced all pleasing bland smudge. More electronics, and more power. Of course this is already plenty for the street but it just won't do anymore. There are more powerful naked bikes now than this. I get the impression that they have given up on the superbike/supersport segment. They make plenty of money with their 125-250 classes and this segment just isn't as lucrative as it used to be. And that RCV bike is total bullshit. People have been asking for them to bring back the V4 and they couldn't be bothered coming up with a business and research plan to make it affordable. It's this lazy attitude that makes me dislike them as a brand, and the same can be said for Suzuki in my opinion. Congratulations are in order for the quality of your videos, man, bravo!

I look at honda and I see nice quality, almost perfect things, but when it work good they don't change it. They keep the same model for many years compare to other manufacturer. Why making a 1000cc with full electronics that cost almost 20k like the new r1? At this point i'm gonna go buy the s1000rr or other prestine bike. It's like making an honda civic at 70k... no point to that

I agree it lacks character but character in the bike world is almost a synonym for a flaw. Sure you can give a bike crazy insane horspower and be lowsiding all over the canyons unless of course they put an electronics package to deal with that power but then it becomes more of the bike less of the rider. The honda's character is its one of the only pure 1000's I'm not saying thats better but for some people its what they want........ and as a streebike in the 1000cc group clear winner.

The problem with people reviewing motorcycles you can always hear there distaste for other brands , you talk up how great the bike is but then say it's forgettable ?? I have never jumped off any bike and forgot the ride so tell me how it's possible you forget the cbr ?? I am a lover of motorcycles in genral and have been for 35 years of my very crazy and exciting 45 years on this planet and I think when people are reviewing something there is always a agenda to there results so obviously your not a cbr fan ..too me every Japanese liter bike on the market can't be beat from track results and price figure ..and on top of everything else 98% of riders will never ever touch there knee to the ground so for me reviews are useless unless your talking about quality and if that's the case then again Japanese bikes are at the top of the heap. Because s1000rr and ducks have the worst maintenance and reliability records .. I say if your lucky enough to be able to ride different bikes talk about the reliability, quality, maintenance and by saying in your video that alot of other riders say it's forgettable and then at the end say the same thing was kind of expected lol and since I watch GP racing and follow many racers and shoot outs I've never heard anyone say it was forgettable? ? Actually I've only heard great things other then for 2015 we don't have all the electronic savers that kawasaki and BMW have .. sorry for my reply but after reading people commenting about a Bike they never rode and possibly your review deciding there first motorcycle purchase there should be more to your reviews and other people riding the same bike to have another another side to the review ... have fun stay safe and never ride above your ability and always leave the racing to the track .......

Matthew Sprague I have 3 CBRs in the garage. Had two 954RRs till a couple of weeks ago, sold one to my friend. I am thinking about getting another bike and been looking at 2006-2007 Fireblades, like them visually much more than 2008-... Fireblades. I test rode 2012 Fireblade with full Bazzaz kit and I was not excited about it at all, got off it and forgot it in 2 minutes. I still relish the rides I had on MV F3 800, 2015 S1000RR and 2014 RSV4 Factory APRC. I really like the CBRs I have and I have NO agenda, but still 2012 Fireblade was a totally unexciting bike for me.
