I owned one of these for a while and remember it's flickabllity and insane build quality. The ZX9R B was a better fit for me though, and I still ride one of those :) Long live the 90s bikes.

I grew up as a kid with CBR posters above my bed. By the time i got my license i thought they were outdated a litttle. The 929 had just came out. Now i look at them and see and respect the beauty and simplicity of it. How ahead of its time and what an era i was privileged to have witnessed. Maybe 1 day ill get one. ❤ Thank u

Same. I bought my first FireBlade, a 929, in 2005 two years after passing. Moved up to 2006 1000RR several years later and kept that bike for the best part of fifteen years as it was all that I needed at the track, which was where I rode mostly. It's funny though, even owning the 06 1000RR, I still lusted after an Urban Tiger even though it's less performance! I remember being 16 and wandering around Stratford-upon-Avon on a Sunday, down Waterside and looking to cont how many Urban Tigers we could find.

It’s funny that you said that. Me being 16 yo was mid of 90’. In Poland was not that easy to find any of this bikes on roads. I was walking sometimes even hours to just see one sport bikes cruising around. It was such a rare experience. Because of that I developed such a good hearing that I could spot it from the long distance. Excitement was reaching climax when after 2 hours of walking you gonna see GSX-R 750 1992’ for a split of second 😂. We were poor but that love to motorcycles taught me to appreciate those old school sport bikes even more. Great times to be alive.

The Fireblade really did shake up the large capacity sportsbikes in 1992. The 1985 gsxr750 was the first to radically reduce weight to 185kg dry and use the lack of weight to help all aspects of performance. Suzuki moved away from the lightweight mantra for some reason and Honda picked up the baton 7 years later. The Fireblade had conventional forks to save weight, not inverted, although they did try to make them look like it ! The 80s and 90s were a hotbed of new models and invention, I spent most of my money on them 😮! The Fireblade was going to be a 750, but to get the performance needed to beat the opposition Honda lengthened the stroke and the 900rr was born, never the fastest, but the easiest to go fast on 👍

One of my favourite bikes. I used an Urban Tiger for 5 years as a daily driver through the city, and never had a moments problem. I fitted a voltmeter as, with head lights on, the alternator struggled to keep the battery fully charged. Otherwise, fault free. Ran it until I retired at 68, then bought a 954. Still preferred the Urban Tiger though. Thanks for your excellent and accurate video.

What makes you prefer the Urban Tiger to the 954?

Interstingly, it's not the modern Fireblade that continues the 900RR legacy but rather the modern GSX-R750. Lightweight, nimble and powerful, the GSX-R750 is the closest one to original idea of the Fireblade. Even more impressive it's got the same 150hp as the last true Fireblade 954RR but from the 750cc engine and it's even lighter.

You have awoken a memory: Way back in 1994 when I got my first Blade I used it for comuting to work along some wonderful back lanes. It was during this time I realised what I realy enjoyed was overtaking cars. So I started counting them each day. If it was an early start it could be "zero" whaich meant I had the benefit of a clear road round all the best corners. If it was later in the day I could offset the dissapointment with the 200+ passed cars score. Either way I would arrive happy.

I love that era.. music, bikes, girls, Rave parties. It had a taste, an atmosphere which will never be again. I have a VFR RC24 from 1986 and an RC36-2 from 1999. No ABS, no ASR, no electronic injection, just you, the exhaust and the road. @@Adikxx

Well put together vid, nice one. 👏👏👍 Many moons ago i walked into my local bike shop to buy a headlight bulb for my FZR thou genesis and came out with a '99 rwb rrx blade (as ya do). I stopped riding in 2015 after 38 years of bike addiction, just finally got it out of my system but i still have the blade lol. ❤️ I fitted the ohlins steering damper which comes with the different better looking fairing to yoke bracket. The bike also has a whitepower road/track shock which made an amazing difference to an already great handling bike, that 16" front wheel really suited my riding syle. I'm 5'9" and fitted titanium coloured Giles rearsets for much improved ground clearance from my feet. Wavy disc brakes made a big difference in the wet (less initial fade). Few carbon bits, front mudguard, yoke cover, frame protectors, hugger, undertray, just my preference with styling, oh and clear rear light lense. Sorry for jabbering on, your vid gave me big smiles 👍🇬🇧. Have fun 😁

When i was a young lad my dad took me to the nec motorcycle show at Birmingham and the urban tiger ill never forget was slowly spinning on a platform just before its release and i knew id have that bike when i was older and luckily for me my old boss had one that he was selling for a deposit on a hayabusa so i took his hand off for it. What a stunning bike fast and comfortable. I rode from the midlands one time on it all the way to Le mans to watch the french moto gp with the lads what an amazing time and never let me down.

Urban Tiger became an Urban Legend. Such a rare colour scheme. I owned for many years SC33 ‘99. In 98-99 bike Honda slightly increased the engine capacity to 919 so it was more friendly in the bottom rpms. Great fuel economy and overall amazing bike. If I will get one again in the future the steering stabilizer is must have. The bike like to get shimmy. Btw 1994 Fireblade was the last one with the hand bars so low. In 1995 the riding position was more “comfortable”. It’s strange that ZX-7R is more comfortable for me than Fireblade’99. With Ninja I did not have any problems to do long trips. Maybe because it was longer bike.

You are very good finding interesting bikes:) It's right that it isn't a good bottom drag bike. It loose out to a gsx1100ef from 84 as if it was a 499ccm;), but.. at the top it passes a 92 gsxr1100 red lining i 5 fifth. So we have the explanation by the gearing/rev ability. Tough bike to ride, but a tough man from denmark have made the trip to lemans on his blade. He got handlebars raised later, but it seemed wrong. So It's right.. It's the bike for a sporty ride, pick another one for comfy transport:) It was said in 95 that the cb500 engine was a 1/2 fireblade. I got a new one then, i got the same engine i a cbf 500 today. No doubt.. the 900 engine will last, the gearbox i a joy. So if collected, it will always deliver a joy ride when chosen.
