Wesley Chapel Honda in Florida just quoted me $2800 to replace condenser and compressor. The car has 44k miles on it and blows cool air out of the drivers vents, not cold. I mentioned this 19-091 recall and was told my car did not qualify. I think they were trying to scam me so I picked up the car and complained to corporate. At the end of the day, I'm screwed. Will just shoot it with some refrigerant and see how long it lasts. Never going to a dealership again.

Funny you said that. I was on vacation last week in FL and stayed on the Best Western in front of Sleep Inn in Wesley Chapel (just a couple of blocks away from that stealership) and I actually planned on stopping by to inquire about my AC... Glad I didn’t. My ‘17 civic HB just hit 44k miles on that trip.

I have the same car (2016 EX-T) I bought it new. I received a letter from Honda last year about the extended warranty. last week the AC stopped cooling I called Honda about the issue and they asked me to take it to the dealer for diagnosis. If the dealer ask for more than $50 for diagnosis, I will replace it myself. After market condenser ~ $50 + oil + O Ring + Refrigerant probably around $120 max. Plus, I don't trust the guy at the dealer removing and breaking some of these too many clips and screws In 2007 I replaced a condenser and rebuilt the cracked compressor for my friend 2004 Infinity coupe. Dealer wanted couple thousands dollar to do it. I fixed the crack with J-B Weld $7 from Walmart (yes believe it) . AC was still working flawlessly the day he sold the car in 2015 Well, I went to the dealer today, and he wants $250 just for diagnosis. I'm shopping for parts

Were the fins on your condenser bad by any means? I have a 2016 civic too, and I have booked an appointment for diagnosis but I am pretty sure it’s condenser based on so many people with same issue. But my condenser’s fins seem quite messed up maybe from road debris. Not sure if it’s worth paying couple hundred for diagnosis at a dealership, they might just say it’s not a bad condenser, it’s just damaged so they can’t fix it under warranty.

@@harrysaini2379 Don't go to dealer. A lot of people has faced the same issue. Dealer will say that it won't be covered under warranty if the fins are badly damaged. You will get all the condenser related parts for the same diagnosis fee.

Vivekananda Reddy thanks for the reply, actually I have been to dealer already and apparently even though my condenser’s fins were in pretty bad condition the actual coil was not damaged, so they agreed to do it under warranty. I saw the letter Honda published for this warranty and in that they had a couple pictures of what kind of damage voids warranty and what kind doesn’t, I checked and I took the risk. It was well worth it. :)

hi, thanks for the video. I replaced my condenser and put oil directly from the condenser (top inlet) only now it seems the system is clogged. The system worked fine (apart from the condenser leak) before the replacement, now only warm air comes out. The compressor works. High pressure and low pressure are the same, so I think the condenser is clogged with oil. What do you think? Thank you

Thanks for putting this video together, very helpful! Road debris damaged my factory condenser. I just finished the job on my '17 Civic EX-T, I got my AC back! All the steps except for a couple things were different with mine. The first, my Civic has fog lights, when the bumper is disconnected, just unplug the fog lights. The second thing, my car had stupid, annoying plastic pieces around the condenser that made it very hard to get the condenser in and out. I was able to loosen the plastic on the left by removing two plastic clips (similar to the ones used everywhere). The plastic was still annoying/in the way. I bumped some of the fins on the new condenser against the hood latch trying to deal with the annoying plastic pieces, fortunately it did not damage the condenser and cause a leak. Anyone dealing with the EX-T models, just be prepared to run into that, and be very weary not to bump your condenser on the hood latch. Also some more generalized advice, I put masking tape on my bumper around the headlights where you have to wedge the plastic bumper removal tools in the remove the whole bumper off the car. Last thing for others out there, I put r134a pag oil as well as 134a refrigerant into my system. The '17+ models now all use r1234yf refrigerant. r1234yf and r134a are essentially interchangeable. r1234yf is (literally) 1000x more better for the environment and care companies (especially in Europe) are being forced to use it by default now. I'm all for greener solutions, but one 12 ounce can of the new stuff runs $45-60 dollars. Way overpriced IMO and not mainstream enough (yet). I charged it with a $5 can of r134a from Walmart!

@PiotrBilek
@PiotrBilek 3 жыл бұрын
For the a/c compressor to turn on, there needs to be a certain amount of pressure in the system. If the pressure is too low or too high, the compressor will not turn on. If there is a chip in the condenser, then most likely the a/c system lost refrigerant and there is not enough pressure. There is always the possibility that the compressor went out, blown fuse, wire disconnected, etc.

Will the pag 46 oil work for the condensor ? And how much fluid did you add to condensor
@PiotrBilek
@PiotrBilek 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on your vehicle. If you use the wrong oil, it will cause problems. Find the ac sticker on the hood and that should tell you what refrigerant it uses. For US models, it will also have the type of oil. If the system uses HFO-1234yf (R-1234yf), then the oil it uses is RL85HM (POE oil). The part number for RL85HM is 38899-RLV-A01. If the system uses HFC-134a (R-134a), then the oil it uses is DENSO ND-OIL 8 (PAG oil). The part number for DENSO ND-OIL 8 is 38897-PR7-A01AH. If you have a US/Canada production model, then you are adding 50mL (1 2/3 fl-oz). If you have anything other than a US/Canada production model, then you are adding 25mL (5/6 fl-oz). For my civic, I used 50mL of RL85HM (POE oil). I bought the oil from Right Honda. The link is below. www.righthonda.com/order-parts/?path=%2Fsearch%3Fsearch_str%3D38899rlva01 Do this at your own risk. I will not be held liable for anyone/anything.

I used an aftermarket condenser. The part number is below. keep in mind, my civic has a 2.0L engine. Make sure it is compatible for your vehicle. Murray Climate Control A/C Condenser With Drier Part #7-30007
