Hi, thanks for the comment. I am planning on doing a re-cap episode soon which will detail the Chop To The Top process so far and whats been spent / earned to get where i am (hopefully that'll be of interest). The market right now is tricky, lots of over-inflated prices so you're right - it is a bit difficult but i'm sure things will start to level out soon!

This is brilliant. How did you paint the touch ups? Was there a base before the nighthawk black? Was there a clear coat over it?
@JohnnyGetsCash Жыл бұрын
That was aerosol nighthawk Black over the repair (filler). I didn’t use primer as it was a small area and I was working the paint out into a fade. With regards to clear - there was a clear coat applied over the fresh paint, yes 👍

epic job bud! thanks for saving another fn2 from the heap! i hated and loved my crystal black fn2, nothing shines like black, and looks amazing, but the paint on a fn2 is butter soft, just washing it wrong, i.e no pre wash or double bucket with guards causes all sorts of problems, hell i could swear that just having it parked on my drive caused marring and holograms! i always found that, correction wise, megs 205 with a medium orange lake country pad worked wonders on my paint, what compound did you use?
@JohnnyGetsCash2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig! You're right - when it's clean, Black is a gorgeous colour, but keeping it that way is tricky to say the least! I agree, Honda paint in general seems to be on the softer side and needs treating with caution. For the correction on this one i used my 'go-to' compound - Meguiars Ultimate on a medium / medium soft pad. That's the set up i use for 90% of the correction work i do, only varying when conditions dictate!
@frankspencer69352 жыл бұрын
The paint is kind of thin on these, but even with a standard wash and basic wax it shines like new. Plast-X on the headlights and rear perspex. I had mine parked next to a 21 VW and there wasn't much difference.

@JohnnyGetsCash2 жыл бұрын
Great choice, Chris! The FN2 gets a bad rap sometimes but I think they’re phenomenal cars! I used to do a lot of sale prep / light restoration work for customers but these days I seem to be so busy with my own projects I haven’t looked for the work! Where are you based?

G'day mate, normally I think wow that is a lot of effort for such a small return. But, I feel this car was worth it. By the way, do you have a video on how to respray the bumper and back of my car, please? The trailer came off the hitch and smacked the back of my pride and joy causing some minor dents but the panel shop wants $2000 that I just don't have. Thank you :)
@JohnnyGetsCash2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Darren! I love Hondas, they're just so well put together and in this case it was one of those cars that didn't look too bad at first but after some graft it really came up like new and was an absolutely beautiful example! RE your trailer incident, that sucks, sorry to hear about the damage. I don't currently have a live video of that sort of damage but funnily enough the tailgate of the Fourtrak i'm restoring has a trailer hitch dent right in the middle of the rear door so i can demonstrate the repair process on that in the hope that its helpful!
