I have the 2018 Clarity and have to say since i bought it new till today 2022, this car has saved me time, money and it is just excellent on long distance driving. No range anxiety and very fuel efficient. I am disappointed that Honda did not market this car to its potential, it is rated one of the best cars to drive even today. Like you mentioned, size and capacity of his car for the mileage it gets is the best even today. Definitely could use a tech upgrade, but overall this car will be a collectors item soon.

Hi @Let Me Review That For You ! How has your electric range held up over the first 50,000 or up to now? Has it always been about 40-42 miles for this commute? Or has range decreased some over your ownership. I’m considering a used Clarity and am unsure what to expect for the PHEV battery range with moderate-heavy (2 full charge/discharge per work day) use. Has your electric range changed much yet? Thanks for the review and info. Greatly appreciated!

You need to get a Comma 2 if you have a 90 mile commute everyday.

So far only thing i dont love are the seats on base model and the AC vents . You cant mount a phone holder unless you snap it on the glass . Everything else is awesome i hope the seats get softer as i break in a clarity with 5k miles

I'm at 110,000 miles now... Seat is more or less a personal preference, I found it to be extremely comfortable for my long 190 mile daily commute. I agree, no place to properly mount phone.

I own a Honda Clarity, and I notice that when you drive on the highway, you leave the car in EV mode. At high speed, you should put the car in HV mode to preserve the battery. This way, I can run a much longer distance with a full battery. Being an PHEV car, and the gas engine being used most of the time as a generator, you need to make the best of both engines. The electric motor is best at low speeds, while the gas engine is best at high speeds. By using both the best way, I never went lower than 60 mpg, and I leave in a country with 6 months of cold weather. So, when entering the highway, put the car in HV mode automatically.
@carkid7640 Жыл бұрын
No.. u use it in EV mode the entire time and charge at the end of ur commute. Ur goal should be to NOT use the engine to use it as least as possible that’s the whole reason for buying a phev.. to not use gas
@TheGizmoGarage Жыл бұрын
My commute is 180 miles a day, Hwy under 70mph you still get decent EV range, but sometimes. I usually leave the car on Hybrid mode on hwy when I drive above 75mph

You do actually get a tax credit for buying a used Clarity from a dealership. Up to $4000 or 30% of the sale price.

How about break change? I have 72k mile but no issue at all

because I use regenerative breaking most of the time, break wear is at minimal, I'm at close to 60000 miles now.

I’m trying to understand peoples repair routines more and more since I’m an owner of this car for about 7 months now, and I just recently hit the 30,000 mile mark on the odometer (bought it preowned at 21,000) and my dealer is saying it’s now due for a “major repair”. They named a bunch of things regarding the battery, but I haven’t seen a review on KZbin where anyone talks about getting anything done except air filter, Oil filter, oil change, and tire rotation. The price of the “major repair” isn’t really that major of a price, in total it was about $428. I denied to get the service done and just got the basics done instead for about $100 total. When you’ve gone to the dealer, did they mention anything about a “major repair” and have you got it done?
@TheGizmoGarage2 жыл бұрын
i'm at 60000 miles now, not a single major repair. Just rotating tires + oil change every 5000 miles. Break fluid flush at 50000 miles, and probably will do a radiator flush at 70000 miles. The car will actually tell you what maintenance needs to be done, don't be fooled by dealer. This car is just as reliable as other Hondas. You can easily do cabin air filter as well as engine air filter change yourself, by watching some youtube video... it's just couple tabs and will probably save you from $100-$200 dealer will charge you. If you hit a bump, or bought the car unknown of the conditions from the previous owner, a wheel balance + alignment will probably be a good safety measure.

@@TheGizmoGarage Thank you for the reply! You have no idea how much it gives me a sigh of relief haha. And I will absolutely take your advice on learning how to do the basics and do it all myself! :)

50000 miles for me. No repairs except air filters oil and rotation. I’m getting roughly 45 MPG on hybrid mode. I do drive majority in EV mode. This is a perfect commuter car for me. I suggest getting tires from America Tires with the warranty. Flat tires and rotations are free repairs and they will replace altogether in under warranty.

Your dealer was trying to scam you. If you have another Honda dealer near you or a hybrid specialist independent mechanic I’d make the switch. Avoid supporting a scummy business.
@vickvega571 Жыл бұрын
Do your oil changes with mobil one and use Honda air filters wich you cqn buy online. Dont fall for dealers traps . Brakes should last 80-100k miles but i do recommend having them cleaned and serviced every two years especiallyin cold or rainy climates

How's the gas mileage on the highway? How about engine noise on highway driving?
@li198312242 жыл бұрын
It's more than 45miles/gal. The engine noise is not easy to notice on freeway or local but you will hear crazy loud sound if you drive slow on up hill without battery or low battery (or charge mode)

Hi Li, how is the battery degradation on your car? Will honda replace it in 8 yeara if degradation becomes really bad?
@TheGizmoGarage Жыл бұрын
Mine barely degraded during warranty mileage period, unforturently i'm already past 100k. Battery is still at 80% capacity (when new I got 47 miles on full charge, now I constantly get 37-38 miles) which is still pretty amazing
