Sputters and chokes. Appears to be a compression issue

had a similar issue on cyl. no.2 - no compression at all tbh. what was the issue?: well, little collision between the intake and the exhaust valves, ended up bending the exhaust valve tip just enough so that it did not close properly - hence the compression was excaping freely. But obviously your issue may be different. What I would recommend is a oldschool oil test. Squirt some oil into the cylinder chamber, enough so that it seals the bore - perform a test - if the reading still poor - you know that the gases are escaping through the head (valve seat, valve itself etc.).

Is there supposed to be motor oil I'm this area of the engine? Mines firing randomly and then never wants to start. There's oil in this area too

Hmm...I know oil is present in the stator area of electronic ignition bikes.

Did you ever find what was causing the low compression?

I had a similar problem with my twinstar 200 ,but it turned out to be the high speed jut in the carburetor ,fell out and into the bowl.So it to would go any faster then 2nd gear.
