Thanks for a great review. I'm a mum having an early midlife crisis and looking to buy my first road bike for some "me time" rides around the hills and suburbs. Always ridden dirt before and grew up helping Grandad restore vintage Ariels, Indians & Triumphs so I love the styling of these but all the modern touches & safety features! Will be booking a test ride.

Heyy guys. I just bought one a few weeks ago. As for fit. My brother who is 6'1 and 135kgs finds its very comfortable and has good pull. Thats coming from a guy who rides a 650cc V-strom. Like I am new too bikes(on road) but I know this for sure. It has a rich history of being a great starter bike back in Cali in the US. And unlike what people say, these kinda bikes pick up girls. I cant ride though Brizzy without girls hitting on me. Plus you can do so much with it. Its worth it. For God sake its a honda, Its hard to kill them lol Enjoy guys and peace out. Btw might be doing some motovlogging later in the year so keep and eye out for that. Cheers

Thanks for the review I’m new to riding and after much research I think I’ll be buying this beast for my first bike, what sold me was the seat height and wet weight of the bike not to mention it’s a Honda and is priced well in comparison to the equivalent Harley street 500 and others. Cheers again for the review

The CMX500 may suit a niche that seems to be unnoticed - the elderly rider who has lost the flexibility to get a leg over a normal bike and strength to handle a typical heavy cruiser. There are only two bikes with low seat height and low rear guard (to get that leg over) but enough grunt for effortless highway cruising. These are the Suzi S40 and the Honda CMX500 Rebel. Both have small fuel capacity but at least it exceeds the bladder endurance of the elderly motorcyclist. The only thing that goes against the Rebel is the chain drive where there should be a maintenance-free belt.
@WeNeedASaga6 жыл бұрын
Rolf Wittwer that's an excellent point! I'm on holidays at the moment and I stopped yesterday to help an old fella who had exactly that problem - he was on a 650 cruiser and with the weight and his low flexibility it was a bit of a handful for him. I think the Rebel would have been much more manageable....
@micilknights30135 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why I ordered a CMX, fancied one of the new Royal Enfield 650 twins but struggled to swing my leg over the saddle, also coupled with the fact that the foot pegs are right where your legs go when you come to a stop so you have to straddle those if you don't want them digging i to your calves. The CMX is super comfy for an old fart like me , and easy to hop off for toilet stops LOL.

I bought myself one of these. Here in Poland the weather is now not the best but had the oportunity to ride it shortly. My honest opinion... There is no other bike on the market such affordable and which gives you this value for the prise (almost 6000 Euro) It is my second bike and I just love it. Considered also buying a used Yamaha Dragstar 650 classic (6000 Euro in good condition), but I don't regret my choise.

I'm aiming to get my license next spring and I am deciding between this one and the kawasaki z650. I've only sat on the z650 and it felt comfortable for me being 5'2 . I still don't know if I want a cruiser or not but if I'm gonna get one it probably will be the rebel. I hope I can sit on one soon to get a feel for it. Other cruisers I've sat on just feels too big for me, at least as a starter bike. But the rebel seems lighter than most cruisers so we'll see. :)

Hey mate. I recently got my first bike a CBR650F, big boy bike for my 3 Victorian LAMS years. It'd be sick to see you do some rides of bikes on the premium end of the scale! I've been loving it and for a lams bike under 6 grand it's got some go! Ever ridden one? - how does it compare to other LAMS rides?
@WeNeedASaga7 жыл бұрын
I've not ridden one, no! I am a big fan of the 650 class though - I really enjoyed the Z650, the MT07 and SV650. I'll do my best to get on the Honda to compare. p.s. congrats on your purchase!

Eden E hey mate, I don't know for sure but I used to own a CBR500R (which has the same engine) and it never used more than 5L/100km, no matter how I rode it. I'd expect this bike would use between 4 and 5 L / 100km. Hope this helps!

Yeh only seems that if you find a review on Rebel 300 its from a Yank Tank so looks like no 300 (270?) for us. I just hit 66 and want training wheels now so want to build a sidecar (incase I forget to put a foot down at the lights) Sorry that only ever happened er um 1 +1 er +1 yep thats 3 times back in the late 60's. MY Advice if you can afford it allways get new and use up the warranty cause you will know what was done to the bike, like if it was at the rev limit all last Saturday night trying to smoke out some shed in the industrial area.

I would say just try both if you can... I think the Street 500 is a bit more spacious but I think the Rebel is the better bike if you fit ok

I’m curious as to what the largest bike I can get is as a learner, I’m leaning toward this as I like the aesthetic, but I’m quite a big bloke 5 foot 10 and 120kgs would this be big enough? I’m just a bit unsure. Great video too!
@WeNeedASaga6 жыл бұрын
The biggest learner bikes are generally 650cc but as you rightly point out that doesn't mean they're the roomiest. Are you set on a cruiser? If not bikes like the Ninja650L are a good size for bigger dudes. If you want a cruiser you could also try the Kawasaki Vulcan 650 or a Harley Street 500...
@DescendedfromOdin956 жыл бұрын
WeNeedASaga I do really like the cruiser aesthetic, I am a big guy but I’m quite nimble for my size my concern was more towards performance I honestly just don’t want something with no give, but I’ll have a word to my dealer he’s a good friend and work associate so I’ll ask him when I get a chance to clarify more in depth, but thanks so much for the reply I’ll check out the bikes you suggested! 😁

I live in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend, she is only 5' (153 cm) and 42 kilos so very limited in choice to a proper motorbikes. Motorbikes like the Honda Wave110cc or Honda Scoopy is the norm in Thailand. I love the retro look of the Hond Rebel and the seat being only 68cm from the ground means the Thai girl should be able to drive it easily. On a personal note, I think an analogue speedo and rev counter would have kept a retro look to the bike rather than the digital gauge.

Great video. Thumbs up. But...please stop this "learner-bike" and "entry level"-nonsense. You wouldn't say that about a car. "Just got your licence? Then a Ford Siesta would be the perfect entry level car for you". This bike can kill you just as easily as anyother bike. Top speed 150 Km/h! You ride in trafic. You gear. You brake. And if you crash it hurts just as much.
@WeNeedASaga5 жыл бұрын
Maybe I should phrase it differently.. I think we can agree there are some bikes that are suitable for beginners and there are some that are not. This bike is suitable for beginners. If you're experienced and also want to ride this bike, that's great!
@skullaveraz5 жыл бұрын
In Australia, new riders are limited to Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) bikes. Hence, "entry-level" and "learner" bikes. Essentially, we're limited to bikes classed as Learner when you're a new rider. Lower CC's, etc.
