Honda CR-Z Hybrid IMA 1.5L Review

Hello!! I test drove another car I used to drool over in my early days when I first started working. Launched in Malaysia in 2011, it still looks dashingly handsome in 2020. Love the unique profile, that “Z” Shaped C pillar and the squatting look this car has.
Inside, the instrument cluster that was cleverly designed, giving impression I was handed the controls to a starship, ready to do the 12 parsec Kessel run. I dare say it beats many instrument cluster of modern cars.
Powered by 1.5L Honda IMA parallel hybrid technology, the little sports car provides sufficient power for daily drive and also enough burst for a short spirited drive.

You can switch to full manual transmition mode if you lower your gear with a pedal shifter when in sport mode ;)

Hi there, thanks for making this video man :). Just a quick question about this car, I've been thinking about getting this as my first car. However, do you think the cost of replacing the Ima battery is worth getting this car for about RM 40-45k?

Hi Paveen, if you’re a young working adult, I think it’s a great car to have. It has the “wow” factor. I think you have to note on the model you’re getting, whether it’s a facelifted version or not (Facelift came in 2013). Facelifted version batteries are slightly higher priced due to higher voltage battery. But it does give a bit of extra power output. You should prepare an extra of 6-7k for possible battery change if you’re worried. Otherwise you can also get an official quote from Honda dealers to gauge the price before you get the actual car. Anyway, I hope this helps answer your question, and don’t forget to bring us on a ride once you get it! 😉😉

I’m sorry but I do not have the data for this as the car was used only for a short duration for the video shoot. Perhaps you can try Googling around to see. But do take note that the figures you see may be different due to vehicle age and wear & tear

Hi Can the 2011 model still be driven as a regular gas car if the hybrid system ( battery, ima system..etc...) no longer works?

Nope. The Honda hybrid system doesn’t directly use the engine to power the vehicle. So you need the battery IMA all to be working to drive the car.
