I had a'89;cr250, that thing got abused, thrashed, put through hell, parked & ridden over & over without the maintenance it deserved. * Broke the shock linkage wishbone, coming up short on a triple, didn't know until later, walking back to bike after another crash, I saw the underside- welded back up, good to go! * Crashed in a sand berm, rad shroud hooked ground & ripped L.radiator open, I limped back to truck, blocked coolant lines with sockets, hose clamps, & plastic PC's, finished camping weekend on 1 radiator! * Lost eng.oil drain bolt in a XC race,bike was stalking & squeaking going into some corners, didn't know bolt & trans oil were gone until I was spray washing bike 2 days later * I want to say you can't kill one of these, but I did, a super hot XC race finally made my cylinder crack race over.i had a steel liner put in , back in buisness! * 1989 was first year of upside down forks, inner bushings wear out quickly- try to find later model forks *** Thank you, Honda, toughest bikes out there! *** Irreplaceable good times on Honda's over the years, cut ME open, im red inside!

I would love to see Honda come out with a limited edition (2000 or so?) 1983-1985 Honda RC works bikes replica's. Same everything. Heck, leave in the electronic programmed exhaust power valve, (or go mechanical). I think us old guys can tune that now. :) Would be a heck of a vintage race bike. How much do you think they would sell for? I am thinking 12 grand. How would you like to have one of those in your garage? :)
@EarthSurferUSA11 ай бұрын
Shifting: Back in 84 when I started racing 250's, I read an article in MXA about starts/shifting. They had 3 ways: 1) Let off the gas, pull in the clutch, shift, gas/clutch/go. 2) Let off the gas, don't pull the clutch, shift and go. 3 Leave the throttle wide open, don't pull the clutch, and jam it in the next gear. So I practiced my starts on a dirt road where I can see the moist roost. (I did not try method 3. Sounds like more tranny work.) Immediately I noticed, between methods 1 and 2, that the coasting patches between the gears were shorter when using method 2. So I always got good starts doing that, but my finishes could have been better. :) MXA today says using the clutch is the fastest way. I sure don't know about that magazine today. Those kids make stuff up before they figure it out.

Take care of your Cr, good quality premix oil, fuel, pay attention to air filter, have a fuel filter on gas line, & most important- give your bike time to warm up before you start hammering! * The 1989 fork bushings wear quickly, chewing up your fork s, if possible, try to get newer forks or bushings 1990-93.
