I just got back from five sold days beating the everloving crap out of the 2023 Honda CRF250F and I have to say that after that real world experience, my Honda CRF250F review is extremely positive. I was continually astounded by my Honda CRF250F trail riding and Honda CRF250f hard enduro experience. This Honda dirt bike took me through water crossings, over logs, and up steep technical hill climbs without missing a beat, and I'm a very heavy rider for this little dirt bike. This Honda trail bike is truly an underrated gem and I think it may be not only the best dirt bike for beginners, but also a very fun and capable enduro bike that will take even the most experienced dirt bike riders just about anywhere they might want to go. The Honda CRF 250 F is a workhorse do it all machine that punches far above its weight.

I had an older CRF250R that was my dirt only bike for years. In January, I sold the old CRF250R and bought a new CRF250F. This bike has been awesome and I don't miss the 250R at all. It does everything I need it to do. I can take jumps and it doesn't bottom out on me (I weigh 215), it tractors up hills in 2nd or 3rd gear, the steering is light and quick and has saved my a$$ a few times. Only things I've done to it are replace the plastic skid plate with a Flatland Racing aluminum one, added IMS Super Stock pegs and Pro-Taper CR Hi bars with Acerbis wrap around hand guards on 1" bar risers because I felt uncomfortable when standing up. The suspension hasn't slammed when I jump it, but I feel like I'm getting pretty close, so I have some BBR heavy duty springs (F&R) I still need to install. I also would like to find a slightly longer shift lever because I have a hard time getting under it while standing. A little over $500 invested and the bike is perfect for me. I REALLY appreciate being able to turn the key, push the start button, and head out of my garage to ride instead of spending time jumping on the kick starter and swearing!

Let me know how those heavy duty springs are when you try them out. I have a 250f and want to upgrade my suspension as well it’s the only downside of the bike it’s a little too soft

Just bought the 23 crf250f, I haven't ridden a dirt bike in years but this bike made me instantly comfortable again! I broke the bike in at my father's land and rode it slow and smooth for hours on and off. 2nd time riding it I went to Fox Raceway in CA and rode the vet track. Hitting big jumps and sometimes slamming the front forks and rear spring, always felt very planted on the ground, not too heavy, and still PLENTY of power. I've road street bikes for years but wanted to get back into dirt and I've had the most fun I've had in years. Going out this weekend to ride again. Ride Safe

You went on the Fox Vet track? Impressive! I'm looking for a trail bike that can also handle mild MX riding with a suspension upgrade. Could this be it to clear a table-top and trail ride? Or I'm better off with a cross-country racing bike, even though I don't race.

Totally agree with you. What an underrated machine. We just bought 2024 250F for my kids/wife and its an absolute blast to ride, anywhere. And i mean anywhere! My 14 old son jumped on it after a two year break from riding, because Kawasaki KX65 became too small for him at age 12 and he started riding the same day like a pro. Thats how easily one can start riding one. This little machine can handle ANY terrain you can throw at it. When i finally got a turn on it and we went for a quad ride together, i was simply astonished and blown away at the capability of this bike. I will keep this one forever and already thinking about buying a second one, just for myself. I doubt there is anything better or more fun for trail riding, period.

I totally understand your praise for the crf250. Super light dual sports were kind of a revelation to me in terms of how easily you can tackle really stupid terrain with them. About 9 months ago I restored a 2000 model year Honda XR200R dual sport bike. Yes, it's quite underpowered. However, the ease with which I can tackle difficult terrain on it was a revelation. I have found myself increasingly taking the xr200 out instead of my other bikes. Having lots of power on tap is great, but you can only really use lots of power offroad once you get pretty good and pretty experienced in offroad riding imo. In the end, I guess I am still at the stage where I have a LOT more fun offroading a super lightweight bike. Regardless of how much or how little power it has on tap. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.

Fantastic review. Smooth, excellent communication. I also rode the 250f and just loved it. Did a Grizzbait many years ago on Beta 250R. Owned a YZ250X for a while and also did many rentals over the years in Ontario on TTR 250s, and WR250s. Rode KTM and Husky 300's in Arizona with Rekluse clutches. KTM 250 and 150 in Oregon . Rode the Honda 250 X with Dallas out in Kamloops. Currently own a WR250R. First experience on the 250 F was....this is exactly what I need. It will get me there, it won't run away with me, it is so tractable, I'm going to get where I want in tight single track, it is not wearing me out or asking me to run out of control into a tree. I am older (65) and not that experienced off road evern though I have been doing arrive and ride days and events for 25 years. If I buy another bike and it is a dirt bike, this is probably what I should get. I was so excited when I bought the YZ250X. I like single track stuff. It is a fantastic bike, but was always asking me, tempting me to open it up. Blast over stuff. Slip the clutch, give it gas and hope you are pointed straight. What I love about the 250F is it just says. what do you want to do, where do you want to go, how fast? OK, I can probably do that. At this point, I just don't want to get hurt. I gotta say, the Husky 300 with a Rekluse was fantastic too, but in a much different way. On my command, unleash Hell! I have looked over used ads for the 250F....but don't buy another Motorcycle! It would be fun to build a Super Premium 250F. Light rims, Lithium battery, lighter pipe, Get rid of the Tubes, run low pressure tires, put on those handlebars that reduce Vibes Dallas likes. I wish they could run small lights and be street legal. Great review Dork.

Hi. I'm a new dirt rider, but riding street (some were very powerful) bikes for decades. I'm torn between the 250F and YZ250X. I want to learn simple MX jumps without racing, but also do trail rides. Which you think is better for me?
@kuladeeluxe
@kuladeeluxe 7 ай бұрын
That is a tough question. the YZ X is so well known for being fun, cheap to maintain, reliable, light. The Honda 250 F is a very well developed package. For me the YZ250X I owned was a great bike.I trail rode it only and am not someone who goes looking for jumps. I did find that with it's two stroke character it wanted to race all the time. Was never all that happy just loafing in he woods. If you want to ride fast and explosive, it is a great tool. The 250 F is going to wear you out less, and be much more relaxed off road in tight stuff. That being said,the suspension is nothing like the suspension on the YZ. It was developed for jumping/racing. , @@dr.x4050

I got it for my ex as her learner bike and just kept it after she got her endorsement and a different motorcycle. Swapped out the street tires with some TKC80s and kept it out at my folks' place for tooling around in the woods and logging roads around there. Between its time as a learner bike and as a "dirt" bike, it was on its side so many times! Except for some bent levers, it was bulletproof and just dead reliable. Hey honda discontinued a bike that was as easy to ride as the bike you are riding . The XR250, My buddy and I wore out (We are talking about tens of thousands of miles) 2 each exploring Baja for many years. We are talking two track ,single track, goat trail ,no trail at all riding . It handled everything we pointed them at. And it would turn on a dime. We beat them so badly it was a shame. So hondas 4 stroke air cooled engines are bullet proof. I follow you from time to time and really enjoyed this video. keep it up.

I put about 20hrs on a 21 250f. It is pretty much everything you said however the major drawback for me was the suspension, clearance and weight. When you're trying to push your skills and limits of where you ride and who you ride with you inevitably are dropping the bike/ crashing. Picking up 265lbs and trying to maneuver that through tight woods and on sand is not enjoyable. I've owned a handful of streetbikes and dirtbikes. KTM 450, Husq FX350, the crf and have finally landed on a TE150. If you are lightish, I'm 150lbs and want to get into enduro and progress as a rider my 2cents is to look at small 2 strokes. If spending very little time in the garage and cruising trails is your goal without jumping or doing anything that difficult then the air cooled trail bikes are great. I'm a honda fan boy but really the ttr225 and other manufactures make equivalents to the 250f and they're probably fine too.

we have an xr 100 in the garage and it is awesome for teems and teaching people to ride, It starts easy and I have never worked on it except to patch a tire or get it started after it sits for a while ( a little starting fluid does the trick). Honda XRs and CRFs are are great bikes.

Thank you for this, man. This is the video I was looking for on a decision. Since I only ride at Windrock, which can be tricky and rocky trails, this bike sounds like it can handle the terrain.

I really liked my TT-R 250, but I wished that it had a smaller tank and lower seat. When I saw the specs on this CRF 250F, it's like Honda was reading my mind.

I enjoyed your video. one thing I would mention, you repeatedly said it's as fast/keeps up with the race bikes in the woods and on the forest roads. When everybody's having a nice ride absolutely but if you hang with competitive people or enter scrambles, the race bikes going to leave the air cool bike in the dust. They have twice the horsepower weigh 30 pounds less and suspensions designed for high speeds whereas the F model is designed for low speed enjoyable reliable low maintenance trail riding. The R n the RX are harder to ride slowly/technically. Really liked your video and footage.

I said it "kept up" with the RXs on this ride. There's footage of that happening. I didn't say it was as fast as one.

Thanks for the review! I have a classic dad bod and all the bike reviews out here are like gym models doin reviews! Getting my kid his first bike and I wanna get back into dirtbikes and join him. Been trying to figure out which bike to go with. I think I’m sold on the CRF250F. Already decided on the CRF110 for the kiddo so might as well both ride red!

i took my wife's crf125f off road one day and kept up with a friend of mine on his KTM690 enduro (on rough trails) so i can only imagine that the 250 is going to be that much closer to the perfect off road bike for the money.

Awesome video, I am constantly impressed with small trail/dirt bikes. I built a KLX140 for my wife. I did a KX100 suspension swap, a 170cc big bore kit and made it street legal with the Dirt Legal service and I have a ball on it. LOL There is no lack of power and if I really wanted I could beef up the KX100 suspension for my weight (its setup for my 115lb wife). The bike will literally go anywhere. Its only con for street riding is the 5 speed but the bike was not designed for street riding. Having said that it will do about 55 mph. 🙂

Traction eRag events are 5 stars. During the 5 days I spent on this bike up in BC, I found the clutch to be rather weak. If a better clutch, other than the $750.00 Rekluse was available, I'd really consider this bike.

I started as a dual sport rider, thinking how great my KLX300 and XT250 were. Then I rode a friend’s CRF250F and had my eyes opened. It’s a trail bike, so obviously it’s going to be great at what it was made for, right? I decided to get one. The dealership was out of them and put me on the CRF250RX instead. That was initially a mistake. The RX is WAAAAY more of a jump up In performance and I wasn’t ready for that. I finally got okay with the RX but now am looking to get the Beta XTrainer. It’s low like the 250F, but has that 300cc 2-stroke power and is 30-40 lbs lighter than the 250F. I’d recommend a CRF250F or KLX230R as a first trail bike for any teenager or adult looking to get into the sport. I’d love to have one as a buddy/backup bike

Can’t speak from experience as I’ve never rode one of those, but I did have it on my short list with the CRF250F. I think it’s taller and a bit heavier than the 250F, so maybe not quite as easy to ride.

I have SERIOUSLY been contemplating getting one and adding a street ready/dual sport conversion kit to it. I sit on one every time I visit my local shop. I would definitely need a larger aftermarket fuel tank for it though. There are ways to getting around your state laws and still have the bike registered in your name, and state. It’s legal here , so I don’t have to worry about that, but I have friends in another state who have done it when technically they weren’t supposed to. Also they legalized their side by sides for street use as well, when technically they weren’t supposed to. But they have it fully registered, plate, and fully legal. I would have fun doing all the mods just because I enjoy that aspect of this sport. I hope you get one Dork! Don’t sell the Rally though! Lol...

I bought a new 1 from Honda and I really like it. I weigh 230 ish. I paid 6300 out the door so that's probably why people sell used for 5k. I do wish it came with a headlight tho. Other than that it's a perfect bike for me.

Excellent review. A slightly off topic question... as you are riding in BC forests have you or have you had anyone come across a bear or bears right ON the trail... I mean especially if you abruptly come around a corner with some speed you'd have to make some pretty quick decisions about what to do, Maybe some carry bear (repellent) spray or other measures? Even Moose can be 'mental' from what I've heard lol.

Showing my age ..but rode a Yamaha TT230 first of the Yammy 4 stroke lightweights in Australia back in the eighties ..oodles of suspension travel and good clearance … could jump easily and could wheelie at will …weighed only 106kg from memory . Cost $2500AUD new back then . Bikes of this cc have imo gone backwards . Heavier , slower , limited suspension … It is very oddd.

I love your content brother! Man I've been looking into a new bike but Honda has some issues. I have a 450x '19 and it's been in the shop twice for fuel pump issues. Second time dumping $1200 into repairs on a bike with less then 800m. Honda says the fuel pump is consumable and would not offer a good faith in repairs. Everything on the bike is consumable! Absolute joke! They had over 600k, same year recalled for fuel pumps on cars and think they should follow across the board. Sorry for the rant. Definitely still considering this for a part time bike but it would be salty. Thinking husky too, any recommendations?

So usually after taxes dealer fees they are closer to $5500 or $6000 depending on what the dealer is trying to charge. That’s what I found last year when I was thinking of getting one. So people are trying to recoup all their costs. I’ve seen a lot around now for closer to 4K new from the dealer probably higher after taxes and stuff though. Bikes are finally coming down to normal prices. All those used bikes will sit unsold or be sold for less since everyone has stock now.

Love the vids, Dork! I just picked up a new to me '21 450RL and got it out on my first dual sport event at 7 Mountains Dual Sport here in PA and had an awesome time. I have the Vortex ECU and full Yoshi exhaust. I'm an intermediate rider and absolutely love the power of the 450RL, whereas when I test rode a 300L it just felt so wimpy. I just have to wonder when it comes down to the technical trail riding, what a bike like this feels like in comparison. Any chance of you doing a comparison video while your experience with the 250f is still fresh? Thanks for all your videos on the 450L!
