HONDA CRF300L 1000 mile review

Here is our bare bones, honest review of the Honda CRF300l after riding over 2000 miles combined including first service, covering as diverse terrain as possible.

I have both the L and the Rally, between my son and I we have about 1,500 miles (70% off road) on each. I bought the bikes knowing that several modifications would be desired and factored into the cost. The bikes are brilliant, the bars need to be replaced and lifted for stand up work, Moto-X exhaust, LI battery and 12oclock labs tail tidy shaved 11 pounds all off the top of the bike. Taking the Rally on a trip tomorrow with friends on a T7 and AT’s. Mostly mountain trail riding and I think the Honda will shine. Considering I’m leaving a 900 Rally Pro at home, you can see how much I like this platform!

Thanks fellas for a very good in depth review. I waited for about 6 months to get one of these bikes. I received my CRF300L Rally in November of 2021. I am looking forward to riding it more in the spring as it is 30% F (-1 c ) and 6" of snow on the ground here in Washington state USA. Some one asked about the Rally in the comments. It is a little heavier than the L. It weighs about 333 pounds or 150 KG it has a has a 3.4 gal gas tank and a lot of plastic to make up the fairing and the wind screen witch works very well at keeping the wind off of you. I have heard from some reports that the Rally suspension is softer than the L put I am not sure about that. I have only been able to put a 100 miles on it so far. I may buy a low concept seat because the bike is a little high for me and I am waiting for crash bars and skid plate to arrive. I plan on using this bike as a adventure bike. At my age of 70 these other adventure bikes are just to heavy for me to be picking them up.

Great video thank you very much I am waiting for my CRF 300 L to come and will be setting it up for off road 90 % off road, putting a bash plate and hand guards, and a rear tack to carry extra gas. For more road I have the KTM 390 Adventure and for rough roads and tractor trails it is more than enough but am running 50/50 tires ( Dunlop TrailMax Mission, ) also have GIVI Trekker 33/46 liter hard bags on it, did up grade the bash plate and hand guards to better KTM ones. Also have a DR 650 with a 20 liter gas tank, great for very gnarly roads and tractor trails but again put 50/50 tires as I do very long runs on it from 200 Km to 400 Km on a after noon or morning ride, the CRF 300 L I will be putting Dunlop D 606 rear tire and Pirelli M.21 front for more off road use the only road it will see is going to and from the trails. Mine was finally delivered the other day and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. The non ABS model. I looked up the Rally Raid rear rack and they are not taking orders on it anymore due to too many on backorder.

Thanks for the review. It's really helpful. This bike looks great in every perspective. The only thing that I'm concerned is about the subframe. First, it's not removable and second, if it can stand on a load (bend). Thanks for the attention. Good luck!

This has been a concern for many. What we can say is after 30 years of riding MX we have only ever bent one subframe!

I’ve got a new one coming hopefully by the end of next month, would you say that it’s worth putting a new rear shock absorber form new and perhaps doing the front later. Thanks Phil

We'd always recommend trying it first before spending out, it may fit your needs as is dependant on what riding you do. We upgraded the shock first and made it better, but would be better still to do the front as well if able. Happy riding.

Great bike!. How did you get Core Grips for the 300l ( they haven't made the yet. Supposed to come out in December) do the ones made for a different Honda model fit?

Bought sheets and cut to fit. Best to under size than oversize to prevent peeling👍

No secret there I'm afraid, bike is just new. Sometimes black gear can rub on the sides of it, but we use RhinoGoo to clean which is great, and elbow grease!
