I had a 1982 cx500 (plastic Maggot as they’re known here). Brilliant courier bikes due to the shaft drive. They’re bombproof bikes and worth good strong money now 👍

@@pallepetersen6471 a fan switch and temp switch are always separate. I have videos on how to adapt modern temp gauges to the original temp sender location in the thermostat. For the GL650 bikes with an electric fan, the fan switch is on the bottom of the radiator. I also have videos on how to use that position

Thickness of steel used for the shock mounts? And how did you figure out the angles needed for the shock mounts?

3/16ths on the plates. Lower mount only really fits in one spot as you want it rearward as far as possible. Upper mount was placed out at that distance to allow just enough space for the air filters to fit in front of the shock reservoir. All geometry has been figured to get a custom rate spring as the stock one is far too soft

Brick House Builds is it possible to make an extra little video about this subject? Mabey some footage of fabricating the rear shock? I really want to convert my own CX500 to a monoshock but before I’m gonna put an angle grinder in my bike’s frame I really want to know how to build it back up again can’t really get the details on forums and stuff only from the bolt in kits but I don’t really like the look of those

@@jesper98 If you watch episode 2 and then on you can gather a lot by how I make things. Get all your components together, take lots of measurements, account for shock sag, ect. Its not an exact science just a way of thinking through the task at hand.

Do you think it's possible to make a cx500 into an adventure bike? I'm thinking longer travel suspension front and rear, but I'm wondering if that would make the wheelbase too short. Is first short and the engine torquey? What did the triple tree come off of?

What type of mono shock that you used? I looking for a mono shock for cx500. Would you recommend?

I see your multiple comments asking what monoshock. I have many details in the descriptions of my videos. The forums are a great resource for this along with motofaction.org. I assume you want the easiest route so I will not recommend this setup as it takes more work than using the stock shock. Many use the Ninja 600 shock as it is cheap and has around 900 lb/in spring rate.

A thing that keeps bugging me, about customized motorbikes. How do they actually ride ??? Forget about looks, forget about sound. How do they ride? I know quite a bit about custom made bicycle frames. I raced them I ride them, I know what's good for me, which doesn't mean of course it's good for someone else. Critical point: I have to completely forget the bike while riding it. Just ride. Or race! So how about this customized CX500? New front shocks, probably same geometry? Rear frame modified to monoshock, probably same length, because it has a driveshaft. But how does it ride? And y riding I mean: can you flip it round a corner confidently, without giving it a second thought ... Does any old CX500 ride excellent, straight from where it's been dumped decades ago? Curious!

Well as this is the first episode of this build series you see very limited info. If you work through the playlist you will see I put thought into everything. Not the same geometry at all. You see me approach different issues as I go and work to sort them. This week I hope to go for the first "real" ride of the bike and actually hit some corners. On the street it feels light and nimble so we will see. I do not recall my exact geometry numbers but they are written down somewhere.

@@freekfaro5606 there is about a 6 inch section of the frame that isn't modified which is the only original spot on the bike. Literally EVERYTHING else has been modified or changed. You won't find a more extensive or detailed build on KZbin
