If the priming plug is not tight, it's going to leak water not suck in air. The top fitting of this centrifugal pump is the output (pressure) side not the suction side. It's always going to be the pressure side regardless what the pump is doing. Also the roll of hose is always going to be the same size no matter how it is rolled up. Have a nice day.
